The Westin Hamburg Elbphilharmonie
We stayed for one night at The Westin Hamburg Elbphilharmonie after visiting friends in the city. We wanted to treat ourselves and chose this hotel specifically for the “luxury” experience and the iconic building. We booked a room with a view on the 16th floor, and the view really was spectacular. Waking up to the city skyline, especially with the view from the bed and the bathtub, was absolutely beautiful and without doubt the highlight of our stay.
That said, I expected much more from a hotel of this reputation and price point. The check-in experience was surprisingly bland and felt no different from a budget hotel. The reception staff were not particularly warm or welcoming, and the whole interaction felt rushed and impersonal. Unfortunately, it gave the impression that we were being judged based on how we looked. We were travelling and dressed comfortably, but that should never matter, especially in a hotel that presents itself as luxury.
The room itself was fine, but aside from the view, it didn’t feel luxurious. The design felt quite ordinary and the layout was a bit odd, particularly the lamp placed awkwardly in the middle of the room. Nothing was wrong as such, but nothing stood out either.
The building itself is incredible and the views are genuinely unforgettable. I would recommend staying here for the experience of the Elbphilharmonie and the scenery alone. However, if you’re looking for true luxury service and atmosphere, this hotel doesn’t quite deliver.
