I have tried to get help from the EASS…

I have tried to get help from the EASS over a long period of time. I reported to them matters of discrimination, breaches of the Equality Act, Human Rights Breaches, malfeasance by my Council, theft of my property caused by the Council, loss of the tools of my trade, unfair treatment by my Council, as evinced by a High Court Ruling of 2010.

The EASS does the telephone equivalent of shrugging it's shoulders. Dropped calls, then "no one available now, call later" messages.

I gave the agent Oliver my telephone number, the call was dropped, but he didn't call back.

In my opinion the Equality and Human Rights Commission is wrong in using this terrible service to take serious Equality and Human Tights calls.

I am worried sick about the incompetence and neglect in our country.

Hi Francis,

I'm sorry to hear that you're dissatisfied with the service.

After looking into this, I can see that your issue has already been raised through the court on a more formal level. As this is the case, it goes beyond the remit of the EASS service as we are only able to offer informal, non-legal advice.

I would recommend seeking legal advice if the issue is still ongoing.

I'm sorry that we're unable to provide any further support.

Best wishes,

USELESS SERVICE

Was no 9 in the queue for the live chat and the message said average wait time was 13.01 mins. Watched the screen as I went from 9 to 1 in the queue and the wait time went to nil. Expecting someone to then start the chat but got message saying sorry for delay, waiting for an agent to become free and the time went back up to 11.01 but i remained at no 1 in the queue. Then chat message box went off completely and i wriggled the mouse but when message box came back on, i was 6th in the queue and the average wait time had shot upto 11.00 mins again. So my wait time was almost 30mins. Useless service!!

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear that you were unable to reach us on live chat.

I'll pass the issues with the queuing system onto our IT team to investigate further. I would also recommend contacting at a quieter time - these are usually between 9am-10am or 3pm-4pm.

In the meantime, if you haven't been able to get through, we also have a contact form on the website where we are able to correspond via email or you can call us on 0808 800 0082.

I had a really positive experience =

I had a really positive experience with the Equality Advisory Support Service. I spoke with Deborah, who was kind, understanding, and genuinely supportive from the start. She listened carefully, took thorough notes, and took the time to explain everything in a clear and reassuring way. I never felt rushed and came away feeling much more confident and supported. I’m really grateful for the help and guidance she gave me — it made a difficult situation feel much easier to manage.

I contacted the Equality Advisory…

I contacted the Equality Advisory & Support Service because I was distressed by how the Department for Work and Pensions handled my disclosure of homophobic abuse during an administrative phone call at the Mandatory Reconsideration stage for PIP. I did not feel that the DWP case manager was trained to handle such disclosures, and her comment in the written notes I later received — “claimant (…) did not stop talking at me for 5 minutes” — was crass, tin‑eared and upsetting.

I spoke to Debbie at the Equality Advisory Service for fifty minutes. I was distressed at the start of the call, and she responded with empathy and skilled listening. She signposted support from GALOP and Support Through Court. She also explained the concepts of Prohibited Conduct and Discrimination Arising from Disability, and directed me to a template letter for raising discrimination concerns.

I would strongly recommend this advisory service. The staff member I spoke to was well‑informed and supportive.

Exceptional service !!

I had my first call with the Equality Advisory and Support Service today and spoke with Jamie. The support was exceptional — clear, accurate, and genuinely helpful. Jamie took the time to explain everything in a way that was easy to understand and made the whole process feel straightforward. A very positive first experience and greatly appreciated.

Disability Discrimination

Whilst on holiday in England (I am from Northern Ireland), my friend & I experienced upsetting disability discrimination. As this had occurred in England, I had to seek advice there.
I spoke to a lovely lady, Jamie, who listened to my explanation of what had happened. She asked me relevant questions about the details. Jamie was very knowledgeable about the support I need to take this further. She explained that they are not able to provide legal advice ( I knew this from the website) but did explain in detail of what I could do to move forward. This involved the relevant policies, Acts, Law, etc.
I really felt that Jamie did listen to me & pointed me in the right direction. I am so glad I made that call today. I have gained a lot of new information which will be of great benefit to me. I am very grateful for Jamie's input.

Two weeks to attempt to get someone

Two weeks to attempt to get someone, a sent a complaints form and it won't even send, total gaslighting of the disabled community

In comment to the reply, tired very hard to complain several times, the online form doesn't submit when the office is shut. So after spending a long time creating a complaint form it was deleted. Theres even an offer to given feed back on the calls, which cut you off so feedback is impossible.

I have sent email just yesterday, asking to complain by email which is reasonable adjustment for my disability.

Simply disgusted

Hi Peter,

I'm sorry that you've not managed to speak to us about your issue.

The EASS is a very small helpline operating across the whole of England, Scotland and Wales, so there may be occasions when it's tough to get through to an adviser during busy periods.

Our helpline is available 9am-7pm Monday-Friday and 10am-2pm on a Saturday. I would recommend contacting us early in the morning or on a Saturday, as these are our quieter times. Alternatively, we also offer support via email or live chat.

If you would like to raise a complaint and have struggled with the complaints form, please send your complaint via the email chain you have been corresponding on and we can forward this to the complaints team for investigation.

Best wishes,
