Pest control at its best.

My grandson worked at a home and unfortunately they had an outbreak of bed bugs. Yep, they came home with him. We contacted Esmad who to my surprise were open on a Sunday and took my call!!! They gave me advice on what to do and came the next day. The service was excellent and reasonable in price. Paul came out and did his job, also gave us some great advice on what to do going forward and we were very pleased with their service. Would use them again, but to be honest, hope we don’t have to. Don’t know why they’ve got bad reviews as they were excellent with us, showed respect to us and our home. Thank you for your quick service and getting rid of our dreadful problem. Diane

Don't use this company!
£180 for 3 visits to get rid of mice, the pest control turned up opened my attic hatch and threw poison up without going into the attic then charged £180 and never returned.
They do not issue refunds and I have emailed several times but have just been ignored. I had to use another company who came out and trapped mice because seemingly you are not allowed to poison mice until you know what type it is! I feel like there guys are just fly by night rouges. My advice Don't use them.

failure to provide service with reasonable care and skill

TIMELINE OF CONTACTS AND FAILURE TO PROVIDE SERVICE
23 June 2025
I first contacted Esmad to report a suspected rodent issue within the attic space. I notified Esmad on first contact and Cameron before the planned first visit that a ladder would be required to gain access to the attic space.
Cameron booked a visit the address for 30 June 2025 between 2pm-4pm based on a report of noise from suspected rodents within the attic space.
30 June 2025
Cameron arrived at address at 7pm that evening, outwith the scheduled time and without a ladder. He was only able to poke his head into the hatch and did not access the attic space.
I was sent payment instructions and paid in full.
A next visit was scheduled for 7 July 2025.
7 July 2025
I was sent a text on the morning of the 7th July telling me Cameron's van had broken down and that no one would be attending.
The next date provided was 10th July 2025 between 1pm-3pm.
10 July 2025
Cameron did not attend between 1pm and 3pm. He arrived at the address at 7pm, outwith the scheduled time due to an emergency callout, and again without a ladder. He told us he would have to re- schedule a return visit bringing a ladder. This was arranged for 15th July between 11am-1pm.
15 July 2025
Cameron arrived at 11:30am with a ladder so he could now access the attic space. Please note that this is now 22 days after I first contacted Esmad to investigate the problem at this address. Cameron set rodent bait traps within the attic space.
A return visit to check the traps was scheduled for 23rd July 2025 9am.
23 July 2025
I received a text telling me Cameron's van had broken down again and would not be back on the road until the next day, 24 July 2025.
On this evening, my resident sent me photographs of a larvae-like substance that had started collecting in the bathroom shower tray.
24 July 2025
I text Cameron asking what time we could expect him, but didn’t receive a reply. I telephoned and spoke to Cameron, asking him when he could attend and telling him about the larvae-like substance that had appeared. He reported that he was out of the area down in Galashiels, would probably not make it that day as he was too busy with other visits, and that he could not provide me with a future date to return to the address at this time.
Concerned about the length of time the trap in the loft had already been left un-inspected, the appearance of the larvae-like substance in the only bathroom in the house and the unacceptable health risk this posed to my elderly resident, and with Esmad reporting that they could not provide me with a future date for inspection, I had no option other than to contact another pest control company to safeguard my tenant.
This company attended with required equipment within three hours of contact. They found a decaying rat carcass in the trap in the attic space and identified this as the source of maggots, which was the larvae-like substance in the bathroom that was dropping from the light fitting.
I’m sure you can appreciate this was a horrific revelation for the elderly resident.
This attic space now also needs to be cleaned to clear all contaminated insulation, droppings, and maggots, and then sterilised.
25 July 2025
Cameron text me with a new time slot between 3pm-5pm but I explained I had contacted another company when he had been unable to give me a timescale for attending and it was clear that the situation was critical.
Please note that we found Cameron to be helpful and polite when contacted and when attending, but our impression was that he was extremely overstretched.
This dangerous situation with significant health and hygiene implications would have been avoided if Esmad had provided service with reasonable care and skill, that is, if you had attended as scheduled, within recognised timescales, and with correct equipment.I heard nothing more from ESMAD when trying to resolve this issue

Paid £216 for “advice” and poison

Paid £216 for what was described over the phone as mice prevention and “external remedial proofing” by the call centre agent.

Across two visits, the only work carried out was placing poison sachets and verbally advising us to install mesh over the air bricks ourselves. When I asked why this proofing work could not be carried out by them and what the cost was actually covering the technician (Rick) became verbally dismissive.

During the discussion, he laughed, made sarcastic comments (including suggesting I should have “Googled it”, and all of this is in the recording I have). Also got irritated when I started recording the conversation for my own records in case a refund was needed. This was purely for my own protection given the conflicting information being given, and I am glad I did.

After two visits, no entry points were sealed, no holes were blocked, and no internal proofing was attempted on either visit. So in effect, £216 was paid for advice and bait that could have been obtained independently for far far less.

Additionally, an open poison sachet was placed inside a bathroom cupboard where we store toothbrushes, despite there being no mouse activity in that area, which I found concerning.

I have since requested a refund for the extremely little and poor work that was carried out and am currently awaiting a response almost a week later.

Had I known this was going to be my value for money, I would’ve stayed far away. Overall, extremely poor value for money and an unprofessional experience.

Good service!

I used this company as I heard scratching under my floorboards. My first visit was by Cameron , who seemed a bit inexperienced and didn’t really explain what to expect within the next 3 visits. He put down some poison and left. When I still heard noises, Rick came out and put down a lot of poison sachets all around the house and plugged up a few holes with mesh. Within the next few days Rick was at the end of the phone telling me what do and reassuring me. He came past today for his final visit and we have got rid of all our visitors.

Absolutely Terrible they came and…

Absolutely Terrible they came and sprayed what I now know to be water from a can while the whole property was occupied said it was fine obviously because he was spraying water. Didn't kill any cockroaches when I called back and stated the obvious they said its not guaranteed even though its plastered all over their website that it's guaranteed.
When I called again and spoke to the owner sho requested I pay £185 again for them to visit and then went on to call me a tramp. Avoid this company I later called Country Pest Solutions Limited. This guy came with a suit and machine looking like the ghost busters. Everyone had to vacate the property while this was done and we couldn't re-enter the property for 4 hours. And they done the job and came back 3 times to make sure it was done. I put in a claim against Esmad with my bank but avoid this company.

Charged £165 for 15 minute spray

Charged £165 for 15 minute spray, started spraying before my cat & me were even out the house. Missed lots of areas in the problem room and sprayed some kind of black residue all over my cupboards and walls of my house from an old bottle. Was told it was safe for my cat to return after 4 hours but was doubtful as very sticky everywhere so contacted the manufacturer of the pesticide used who told me to absolutely not bring my cat back as it was so poisonous for her. Advised me to scrub the entire house and leave her elsewhere for a week. Esmad knew I had a cat before coming. Contacted company for clarity as was worried and had Rick the rudest man phone me back calling me and the manufacturer of the product liars stating I had told them incorrect information though I had a photo of the bottle of pesticide used. Called Esmad back after horrible encounter with Rick on the phone left me in tears, they then promised to have the manager Mark phone me and he has not done so. Now been left with a house unsafe for my cat, no further contact and £165 down. Not happy. Would not recommend using this company.

Avoid

Avoid! Abused staff with dated faulty equipment. Cameron was a really nice bloke but given little details about the job and unprepared. The boss doesn't care and basically takes the money with promises of a return visit to conclude the job but then want more money for what was already agreed on the phone. Website looks professional, absolutely the opposite in real life. I hope Cameron finds better employment. I see they often reply to bad reviews blaming the client, looking forward to whatever bs they drum up here! Read their reply knowing they lie.

The man who came out sprayed some…

The man who came out sprayed some chemicals on floors and mattresses etc, however he didn't do a thorough check of headboards or any of the other places where bedbugs hide,. he was there for around 15-20mins, we were charged £185, the treatment did nothing at all, a few days later I saw 2 live bugs in one of the beds.
We eventually paid another company to come out and do a much more thorough treatment, the guy was very thorough, he checked all the hiding places were bedbugs hide, he showed me where they were, [mainly in the creases at the back of the headboard]..he used a steam treatment first and immediately 5 or 6 bugs fell dead from the edge of the headboard, he used the steamer, fogger, chemicals and diametrious earth, he is coming back to do another treatment next week, even though it is more expensive I think this 2nd company is more thorough and effective.
