Sharp practice

Was advised by the representative that the car I booked was too small for my party he advised I would need to upgrade to a van, we were two adults and three children in a mid sized saloon. As I was leaving the desk I over heard the other customer service asking the next customer if he would take a free upgrade of a van as they were short on cars. Sharp practice and dishonest at Munich airport!

Rented a car from Paris to Frankfurt.

Rented a car from Paris to Frankfurt.

Recieved a dirty car, inside and out. 2 days later when returning the car they found some exterior damage that did not happen during our trip...in the end as they said themselves it did no matter since we bad full insurance...which they insisted we get. We paid for the full tank and were told we would get a refund on any extra diesel when we returned tha car. We returned the vehicle with more than 80% of the tank full. And are now getting told we are not getting any refund as it should have have been 100% full...as if there was a gas station outside their office. Good service when selling, but after the sale is done they are terrible.

EUROPCAR FLUGHAFEN MÜNCHEN

They accuessed me scratching their car, but no problem. I'm fully covered, however it is disrespectful accusing someone of a scratch that was already there. As I already know that rental car companies make more money like this, I prefer to rent with insurance. They make also money with the insurance, however it is less than without.

don´t do it

It’s about a rental situation in Dublin, Ireland.

And at the beginning I have to say the car was fine and people were super friendly.

But after I was giving back the car, which was in absolutely superb condition, the person on the counter said all fine and the 2000 Euro deposit will be unblocked after 24 hours.

But now after almost a month and at least 6 different persons on the phone, which everyone said they will deal with it, nothing is happening at all...

The 2000 bucks deposit is still blocked for no reason.

I mean I get it, this is a multi-corporation, but if they can’t deal with a little rental they should not offer it...

Don’t rent there if you want a Relax Holiday

Been waiting on a rental car refund for about 4 months now and it’s one of the worst customer service experience ever. No one can give me a straight answer. All they can say is “I am sorry about the inconvenience. I have raised a case and there is nothing else I can do about it.”

Had to fill in all the information again…

Had to fill in all the information again that I had already filled in on the website. It took a long time to get the car out.
Be prepared to be surprised with an email from debt collection when the letter for a fee that you were not aware of did not arrive in the mail. So instead you pay the fee + debt collection costs.

The return was somewhat smoother, however I will not choose this company again as I prefer to choose others that I have very good experience with.

Hahn Airport Car Rental

I rented a car for 2 days from Hahn airport. Collection went well and the car was very good. When i collected the car europcar had only one bit of damage recorded on the form. I took a video of the car and a number of photos. Rental went fine and i returned the car but there was nobody there to receive and check the car.
Later that evening i got an email saying there was new damage to the door and back bumper. I had an excess of €1050 with the standard insurance and coincidently the agent, Max, found €1051.47 of damage. I was clearly able to show that the very minor marks that Max noted were already there when I collected the car so Europcar Hahn quickly dropped the claim. This appears to have been a clear attempt to get the €1050 from me and was infuriating and disappointing. If people are hiring cars take lots of high definition photos or videos. It saved me €1050 here. I would be very unlikely to use Europcar again and would advise anyone to deal with them with alot of caution.

Europcar tried to charge on the double…

Europcar tried to charge on the double at pickup.. already paid for 2nd driver and proved it by producing the confirmation email ..but.. 'it didn't show on their system' so despite the obvious evidence this incompetent company refused to honour our mutual contract. I was eventually informed they would refund me in light of the clear evidence within 10 days but that did not happen. I called 'Customer Care' (JOKE!) and complained again and Europcar immeadiatly tried to take more money from my Credit card ... when I provided them with a screenshot of the attempted FRAUD they stopped answering my emails.. saying they had done an extensive investigation (pure BS) .. not to mention the CS phone number is a premium number when calling from outside the UK so they screw you again and again for each call.. utterly disgusting abomination of a company... should be severely sanctioned.

Fuel scam

Booked via easyJet car rental from Toulouse airport, promised a Toyota but given a Dacia. EUROPCAR staff member says strikes could cause petrol stations to be closed so encouraged me to sign up for fuel option. He definitely said that I would be charged only for fuel added and at local rates. I returned the car with 75% full tank but was charged for an entire tank. This was corporate theft of approximately £60. Every effort to redress rebutted. Fortunately I won a dispute over £300 worth of false body damage! I do not understand why easyJet, a reputable company, would introduce its trusting customers to a disgraceful outfit such as EUROPCAR.

Beware of EuropCar’s tactics. My wife and I live in America. EuropCar may rent a lot of cars however, I would never, ever recommend them. They are underhanded and they do not care if you are left on t

In our case, we rented a car from EuropCar in Klagenfurt, Austria. We arranged this car to have full insurance through Check 24. However, when we got our car from EuropCar Austria, unbeknownst to us, EuropCar Austria did not include the insurance on their contract. We drove the car for one hour to the Wurtzen Pass. We pulled over to get a Vinette in order to travel on the roads to Slovenia. We were approximately 17 inches from the wall. When we started the car and the brakes went all the way to the floor allowing the car to move forward 17 inches into a 2-foot wall. When we put the car into reverse, again, no brakes going backwards as the brakes went all the way to the floor. This was frightening due to the mountain pass that we were on. Thank goodness we were on the flat part of the pass allowing us to come to a stop. After the brakes failed, there was no way we were going to go down the mountain on the other side. EuropCar now wants $1700 for the damages. BTW: there is no way the damages were even close to this amount for a few scratches that wasn’t even our fault due to the brake failure. However, we wouldn’t find us out for another couple of months once we were back home. Europcar towed their car away (their policy stipulates they would give us another car) and we were trying to arrange for another car to be delivered for 3 hours. However, that never happened. They left us stranded on the Wurtzen Pass. We got a ride to Lake Bled along with our luggage and 2 days later we rented another car at more than twice the amount. $2200 . When we returned that 2nd car after nine days of travel to the Munich airport, EuropCar had no idea about this car as it had not been registered. Thank goodness we took photos. One month later they too, (EuropCar PE Bled) wanted money for damages to that second car. There were no damages whatsoever. We provided Visa photos and won that battle. We fought EuropCar through Visa for several months and won our original $1,095. EuropCar also lied to Check 24 saying that we drove the car back to Austria and returned it. Yet, we had the photos of the tow truck picking it up from the mountain top. They also lied about many other things which Check 24 informed us about. Again, they left us totally stranded. After renting from this corrupt organization, I could never recommend them because this is the rental from hell. They kept trying to come back to us for more and more money. Obviously, we are fighting them vigorously. Our vacation was fantastic but the (Rental Car from Hell, EuropCar, put a stain on our vacation) and 4 months later we are still having to fight them for the insurance money that we had to pay per the contract in the amount of $1,450 for the damages. We could never ever recommend them and if you do rent from EuropCar, it is at your own peril and your wallet. They will come after you for more and more money. Stay away from this company. They will not help you but will expect your money for nothing. All told, for 9 days plus one hour of driving time before the car broke down, cost us $4,853 less the return of the original amount that Visa fought for us to claw back in the amount of $1,095 and the $108 for the fraudulent damages attempt by the 2nd car = $3,650. Next time, we will rent from a more notable car rental company.

Europcar Switzerland keep credit card information and charge extra money.

I am writing regarding my car rental with reservation number 1194224148 and invoice number 101004703347, which I rented from Zurich Airport, Switzerland, on 09.09.2025.
After I returned the car Basel Airport on 12.09.2025. They declared that they would refund the deposit in full and that there were no problems. After that While checking my credit card statements, I noticed that an extra $85 had been charged to my credit card.I emailed them about the $85 they charged to my credit card; they replied that you took this money because the car’s fuel tank was not full. When I rented the car I took video and photos. If they look at the photo dated September 9, the odometer reads 1,140 km. In the photo I took when I returned the car on September 12 the odometer reads 1,170 km. How could the tank not be full? There was more fuel in the car than the fuel level they provided at delivery — how can the tank not be full? I even sent them the photos I have. Despite the documents I hold, they are lying. Refund my money immediately.

Double charged

Double charged, refund refused.
Despite 37 emails, 45 calls, and even a visit to the airport counter, no help at all. The case is now with the European Consumer Centre. Europcar shows zero customer care – never again!

Extremely disappointing experience with Europcar Dublin Airport

I recently rented a car from Europcar at Dublin Airport and was extremely disappointed with the entire experience. The booking process seemed straightforward, but from the moment we arrived, everything went downhill.

The staff at the counter were unfriendly and unhelpful. After waiting more than 30 minutes to pick up our car, we were told to go to another floor where a shuttle would collect us and bring us to the actual rental station, located away from the airport. We waited there for almost 50 minutes, no shuttle ever arrived. A young family with children also complained, and in the end, we had to arrange our own shuttle together with them and go to the Hertz parking area ourselves.

Once there, we finally received the car, but again the staff were rude. The women’s toilets were closed, and the accessible toilets were dirty.

Fortunately, we had chosen full insurance, because shortly after leaving, another driver crashed into the back of our car on the motorway. Even though we were in shock, we immediately called Europcar to report the accident. Instead of helping, the agent asked a series of unnecessary questions, keeping us on the phone far too long until our phone battery ran out. Even the fire brigade and ambulance staff, who tried to assist with the call, couldn’t understand what the Europcar agent wanted.

What shocked us even more: we were told that if the car needed to be collected, Europcar couldn’t say how long it would take and that we would just be dropped off at the next petrol station and left there. They also told us we wouldn’t receive a replacement vehicle because company policy blocks customers for 24 hours after an accident.

Luckily, the police allowed us to drive the damaged car back to the rental station to return it. It was already dark, and when we asked for help to get another car, the employee at the return desk barely cared. He just told us to “try Hertz next door if you want.”

We were then forced to fill out a two-page accident report, even though we gave them the phone number of the police officer who could provide the official report. The form itself contained ridiculous questions - even the staff couldn’t explain some of them (for example, “width of road?”).

Finally, we were told that we would get back the fuel deposit, but not the prepaid rental fee, because “from a business point of view,” they said, the car couldn’t be rented again until repaired. This raises a simple question: What do you pay full insurance for, then?

Overall, Europcar completely failed to deliver the level of professionalism and support, one would expect from an international rental company - or from any company at all. I strongly recommend choosing another provider.

Europcar proved to be completely…

Europcar proved to be completely dishonest and unprofessional. The cars I had reserved were given to other customers without any prior notice or explanation. This left me stranded and forced to wait unnecessarily. The staff showed no responsibility or willingness to resolve the situation. It felt like a total scam. Their lack of communication and respect for customers is unacceptable. I strongly warn everyone to avoid Europcar unless you want to risk losing your time and money with unreliable service and outright deception.

Shamelessly trying to take advantage of a customer’s predicament

Not very helpful. I had forgotten my physical driving licence (my fault, stupid me, no excuse). I had a digital version with me, but Europcar wouldn't even look at it. Having my wife do the rental instead (who had her driving licence with her) was also not an option (somebody explain that to me, please) except for her doing a NEW rental at TRIPLE the price. Well, actually that would have cost us quadruple, since I wouldn't get my money back on the first rental. It's like Blockbuster in the early 2000s with their well known late-fees. A cash cow, but also the reason they eventually went bankrupt because customers left en masse once competition (Netflix) offered a customer friendly service. See you on the other side, Europcar.

UPDATE: Europcar replied (probably automatically) to this review that I should send it directly to their customer service. The link they provided in their answer lead not to an e-mail address (as promised), but a complicated web-form (with the intent, it seems, to have people NOT give feedback). I went ahead and wrote down my whole story anyway, only to discover a "Your form couldn't be stored, please try again" at the very end when I hit "Submit". Obviously, 'trying again' didn't work (it never does) - not even when I entered the text a second time from scratch. Well done, Europcar - you've managed to NOT get feedback from another customer. Goal achieved.

UPDATE: Contacting the so-called "customer service" of course didn't lead to anything but wasting my time. I'll have to subtract another star for that, resulting in a one star-rating now.

❌ Terrible experience with Europcar- never again!

❌ Terrible experience with Europcar – never again!

Text:
On 30.08.2025 I rented a car from Recklinghausen with drop-off in Ludwigshafen. The rental agreement was for a maximum of 24 hours. I picked up the car on Saturday at 9:25 AM and should have returned it by Sunday, 31.08.2025, 9:25 AM.

The issue: the Ludwigshafen branch is closed on weekends (open only Mon–Fri, 7:30–18:00). On Saturday evening around 9 PM I tried to return the car, but it was impossible. I called customer service – no one available. I then sent an email explaining the situation – no response.

I finally returned the car on Monday morning, only to receive an invoice charging me an additional €320! This was not my fault – I couldn’t return the car because the station was closed. When I complained, the answer was simply: “We cannot change the invoice.”

This is absolutely unprofessional, unfair, and customer-hostile. I feel ripped off and completely abandoned. Without a lawyer, you are powerless against Europcar.

➡️ My advice: Avoid Europcar at all costs! I will never rent from them again.

Decent, But Could Be Better

I rented a car from Europcar, but my experience was mixed. The staff weren’t very friendly, and the car (Hyundai i20) wasn’t in the best condition. The rental process worked, but overall it was just okay — not the smooth experience I expected.

Extra Charges without information!!!

I have rented a car from Stuttgart Airport on mid July for 5 days with full kasko, via Trip.com. I have returned the car within the time. They have charged me for extra 450+ euros, in which the invoice includes 8 days of kasko!!!

I thought that might be a mistake and written to them via their customer portal on 11th of August. And today, on 2nd of Sept, they have charged me extra 364 euros more without any information (no mail no call etc).

Now I am trying to write them via their customer portal again, it always gives "fehler".

Usually.customer services are there to explain what the hell is going on there before charging extra amount but here in europcar, it is almost impossible to get information. I am calling them and they always say there will be information.
