I applied through the Ethiopia e-visa…

I applied through the Ethiopia e-visa website, and the payment was taken immediately, but my application was never submitted in their system. I did not receive any confirmation email, invoice, or notification.

I waited more than 24 hours and contacted their support email, but no response at all. Later, I received a message saying my application was uploaded but that I needed to pay again to complete the process, even though they had already charged me the first time.

The service is unclear, communication is extremely weak, and there is no proper way to solve issues or request a refund.
Very disappointing experience, and I hope they improve their system and support so others don’t face the same problem.

Ethiopia eVisa Scam

The Ethiopian Embassy in London and Evisa support staff has given me one of the most disappointing visa experiences I have ever had. Over five applications for an Ethiopian visa using my Sri Lankan passport, I was denied with no reason given. When calling the embassy, staff are frequently rude, abrupt, and hang up the phone. They claim no responsibility for visa matters, even though they supposedly offer consular services. The staff at the London embass and those behind the eVisa system are grossly incompetent and seem entirely uninterested in helping applicants. The eVisa system feels like a scam at best, payments are taken, there is no support or response to inquiries, and applicants are left in the dark with no explanation or refund.

As a well-meaning tourist, I had already booked Airbnbs, experiences, and hotel stays, intending to visit and spend in the local econom, money that would boost tourism and help many Ethiopians. The shocking incompetence of the embassy, immigration office staff, and eVisa support staff directly denies Ethiopia the opportunity to benefit from tourism. Their mismanagement is actively turning away people who want to visit and support the country. This lack of transparency and respect for legitimate tourists damages Ethiopia’s reputation and economic potential. I would strongly recommend avoiding this embassy for any visa or consular needs, especially if your application must go through their online platforms.

Cannot retrieve evisa status

By mistake I sent a copy of an old passport. They came back to me and requested a correction. I sent a copy of my new passort. I payed the 62 USD, got a receipt. After that every time I check my status, it sits on "Replied". I emailed the embassy, they replied that there is plenty of time until my departure. That was sceduled three days ago. For another reason I had to skip my stay in Ethiopia and changed my ticket. But the bottom line is that I still haven't my visa three days after I should have arrived. It could maybe be a matter of using Edge instead of Chrome browser, but at their site for checking my visa status the site does not recognize my Applicaation ID .... (the site looks different on Edge where it replies that either Application ID or passport number is wrong.... So much for those 62 USD.

Bad experience

I reached out to them multiple times via email, and they responded requesting that I provide my reference number and passport number. The strange part was that this information was already included in the subject line of the email, as well as in all of the emails I had sent. I tried to remain calm and send the information again, but I have not received a response. It has been 10 days now with no update on the status of my visa application.

We have emailed support after waiting…

We have emailed support after waiting for over a week, after all their website says to contact then after 3 business days, when you call, a rude and obnoxious sounding person answers and drops call before you are done. It is disgusting, why take my money and promise a service you can't offer, all I've been told is to wait for the email, I can't trace my visa to know the current status if it's under review or whatever ,I missed an important appiontment due to this incompetence.

Ethiopian embassy is incompetent and unprofessional

My husband applied for an evisa to Ethiopia. Despite their claim on their website that nationals of all African Union member states are eligible for visa on arrival, he decided to get an electronic visa from their website either way. The visa is suppose to take 3 days. Its been 3 weeks, they have still not issued or denied the visa, they only took our money. Its been 3 weeks of calls and emails to their embassy, they don't answer any. He went to the physical office of the Ethiopian embassy in Saudi Arabia and a man working there cursed at him and told him to leave without hearing him out. We had been planning this trip for months. This embassy is unprofessional, incompetent and fraudulent. Since they won't issue or deny the visa they should give us our money back. We have lost flight ticket money and our time wasted because of them. Its completely unacceptable.
