Customers frequently encountered significant difficulties with the booking process, including incorrect dates, misleading information, and unexpected charges. Many people found customer service extremely poor, characterized by unhelpful agents, long wait times, and constant redirection, making issue resolution nearly impossible. DO NOT USE EXPEDIA!!!! THIEVES.

THIEVES!!!! DO NOT DO IT! Book directly with the airlines.

So we decided to book a business trip using expedia. HUGE MISTAKE!

We were charged immediately so we figured we were good.
First, after two days, they only confirmed the return flight. Not a word about the flight leaving. So we thought we would try to call. Took HOURS to try to find a phone number for these jokers. Worthless anyway but we did find one. PUT YOUR NUMBER ON YOUR FRONT PAGE!!
Spoke with Leo who kept us jumping through hoops and trying to find itineraries, credit cards that were charged, partial emails etc.....48 minutes, THEIR confirmation numbers, confirmation number of return flights, everything! and he did nothing to help. Kept saying there was an issue but could not tell us what the issue was or how to fix it. Got tired of spinning our wheels with Leo and when I asked for his supervisor he accused me of abusing him - by asking for his supervisor? Wow. Trying to clearly CYA but Leo was the a very Worthless level 1 support.
He finally got me to Robert who said he was Leo's supervisor. Who knows. Roberts direct number is 858-460-7270 ext 437 or so he said.
After explaining EVERYTHING yet again, Robert told us the price we locked in "might" have been a promotional price??? MIGHT?? Really do not care about your internal processes. We locked in a price, got charged for the price, paid for everything but Robert said we would now need to pay him ANOTHER $210 EACH! Another $420?? WHAT???? That is double the price we locked in. He said that the website may have been wrong? WHAT??? Then that is Expedia's problem, not mine. Double the price because YOU made a mistake. WOW?? I locked in a price and paid that price....total fraud and the old bate and switch routine that we will report elsewhere. Told him to just cancel everything and we would start over. For this privilege of cancelling, Leo wanted to charge us nearly $300??? TO CANCEL A FLIGHT THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT AND WANTED TO CHARGE US DOUBLE. THIEF! Charge us twice what was advertised or charge us $300 to not have to deal with them anymore? Either way they get paid a lot more for their errors??? Absolute scam and den of thieves.

Misleading flight cancellation information and zero transparency

I do not recommend expedia for anything because of a lack of transparency and misleading information around cancellations. I purchased a flight that clearly stated that cancellations were applicable and that a cancellation fee by singapore air would be applied (it did not state no-cancellations/non-refundable like other flights did, this info that was displayed to me was verified by a supervisor). I reviewed singapore air’s range of cancellation fees and it was max $400 and on some flights it clearly states non-refundable. The expedia app can tell you when cancellations are not allowed, meaning non-refundable ticket, but it can also tell you cancellations are allowed with a cancellation fee when it is actually booking you a non-refundable ticket and if you cancel, you lose the entire fare and may only get some taxes back. The communication is misleading and not transparent enough about what you are actually buying from the airline. It could easily be their way to make you think you are getting a good deal for a flexible flight when they could be deliberately hiding the fact that you are not getting the flexibility as advertised. I disputed this with various customer service staff (one of which panicked and hung up on me) only to eventually be told, sorry you have a non refundable ticket, our hands are tied. They took no responsibility for providing misleading information. They offered no compensation for selling me the wrong product (I did not want a non-refundable flight) and they were not willing to even escalate this to someone to go and fix this misinformation/false-advertising on the app which is why you should not use this because you have no idea what you are even paying for.

Expedia's error has cost me a lot of money

I booked a ticket from Bangkok to Almaty on China Southern Airlines. Unfortunately I made a mistake with the date and a couple of days later rang the agency and asked about the costs of changing the date. I was happy with the cost change and authourised the cost and the revised dates. I received an email with the new flight details and assumed that the change had gone through.

When I appeared at the airport to check in as per the flights in the latest email my name was not on the airlines list and Business Class was full. Eventually the airline informed me that I had been recorded as a non show on the date that I was originally shown to fly and that the revised itinerary while commenced was never completed. I attempted to contacted Expedia but had no success so I finished up buying a more expensive ticket for later that day. There has been a total lack of response of Expedia and the matter will again be taken up with them when I return to Australia.

Because of an error on their part I stand to be out of pocket by a large amount.

Stay clear from the worse in the business

Absolutely cut it. I didn’t read the reviews before booking with Expedia.
After booking a trip that nearly cost me $10,000 they have treated me like I was a kid coming out of kinder!! Apparently it’s not their problem that they’re overcharged me! I need to speak to the hotel but the hotel tells me that the agent booking the trip is responsible!! Apparently not!
No refund on a meal plan they charged me for 3 years old child when they are free!!

Extremely disappointed whit the service customer

I am writing this review out of sheer frustration and disappointment with Expedia’s customer service. On July 11th, I mistakenly reserved a room for four people, but the booking was only for one person. The moment I realized the mistake, I immediately contacted Expedia for assistance. I was assured that everything would be taken care of and that I had nothing to worry about.

However, this assurance turned out to be completely hollow. Despite my immediate action and clear communication about the error, Expedia failed to provide any real solution. I was met with a barrage of excuses and generic emails citing company policy, refusing to refund my money or rectify the booking. It is unacceptable that a company would leave a customer in such a helpless situation, especially when the error was addressed within seconds of making the booking.

My vacation plans with my family were completely ruined because of Expedia’s lack of accountability and customer support. This experience has been a nightmare, and I urge everyone to be cautious when dealing with Expedia. They have shown me that they are more interested in protecting their policies than in serving their customers. This was a clear case of neglect and disregard for customer satisfaction.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Expedia has been incredibly dishonest about my ticket cancellation. They kept insisting that the airline’s policy wouldn’t allow a refund—yet when I contacted the airline directly, I received full confirmation that a refund was approved.

This isn’t just about money—it’s about integrity and work ethic. I spent over 3 hours across three separate online customer service agencies with Expedia, only to be given the runaround and no real help. In the end, I had to escalate the matter to Fair Trading to get my money back.

I strongly urge anyone considering a booking with Expedia to read all the reviews carefully before proceeding. Save yourself the stress and book directly with the airline or through a more reliable platform. This experience was beyond frustrating—it’s unacceptable.

I booked a flight for my partner to…

I booked a flight for my partner to Africa. This flight was via Turkey and there were some restrictions for some African Nationality’s.
My partner was not from one of those countries on the list.
They accepted the booking and received my money and then without any communication, they cancelled the booking and instead of receiving a full refund (as Expedia cancelled the flight not Me) and charged me a cancellation fee of $109 without any reason why?.
Don’t use Expedia, I certainly will never use them again and advise others to do the same.

Looks cheap but unnecessary flights and ridiculous change fees

It looks cheap but they send you unnecessary flights all over the show, traveling for 24 hours when there are plenty of short, direct flights where you'll only be traveling for 5 hours. If you try make even the slightest change, they want to charge you through the roof, like day-light robbery prices. We wanted to avoid all the extra unnecessary 19 hours of travel time on the way home, and they wanted to charge us $1500 to go from the business class tickets we already booked to a direct flight in economy class. Just an absolute rip off. Not to mention the $2,500 they wanted to charge us for upgrading our tickets from premium economy to business even though that price is more than the whole business class ticket alone to begin with and it was last minute so there were empty seats sitting there available throughout the flight all because they were far too greedy

You don't get what you paid

I booked two hotels in China in February through Expedia. Both hotels with breakfast included. But the booking letter from Expedia didn't mention my breakfast. Don't know it is Expedia problem or hotel management problem. When I contacted Expedia on their app, no feed back. So I have to pay my breakfast at that two hotels. So next time if you want to book hotel with Expedia, better ring them to confirm what you will book is true.

I booked several flights for a trip to…

I booked several flights for a trip to Port Macquarie, then on to the Gold Coast returning to Sydney. I got to Port Macquarie, staying for a week, unfortunately CYCLONE Alfred happened. My family were driving and were supposed to meet me at the Gold
Coast. All the roads were flooding and they couldn't get through, our accommodation was cancelled as they had no power. I tried to delay my trip to the Gold Coast for a later date but Expedia would not help me. They took my money quick enough when I booked but wouldn't help resolve the situation that I found myself in. I will never use this company again and do not recommend that anybody else uses them.

No accountability

Booked a nice hotel room due to it being my birthday and unfortunately also very unwell requiring a hospital visit a couple of days prior so wanted to treat myself. Got to the hotel and was left waiting for ages with little explanation as to what was happening to eventually be told that they overbooked and could not give me a room. I checked Expedia which showed multiple rooms still available. While I recieved a refund (after wasting more time chasing this), it's about more than money, having had time wasted and the stress of rebooking elsewhere last minute when I was feeling unwell. The response from Expedia was a bland and insincere 'sorry to hear that', worth no explaination, accountability or reassurance. Deleting the app and reviewing everywhere I can to warn everyone of these scammers- other reviews show similar issues.

I booked flights through Expedia

I booked flights through Expedia, my flight was cancelled due to bad weather and the airport being closed. The airline advised us refunds would happen but as we didn’t book direct we had to go through our booking agent (Expedia) i have spent 4 months trying to get my refund which I have in writing stating was going to happen in 8-12 weeks and they are now saying I have to deal with the airline and it’s not their issue. Will never book through them again!

Expedia Deserve a Shonky Award! They provide no value

I booked a rental car through Expedia but the rental company would not honour my booking because I only had my VicRoads issued digital license. There was nothing in the terms and conditions about digital licenses not being accepted and the hire car company said they noted on the booking that they would not hire to me however Expedia tell me I was considered a "no show" and the $580 they charged me will not be refunded for this reason!!! I have been trying to resovle this with Expedia for a month now but all I receive is a periodic "canned" email saying the hire car company will not refund the booking....it wasn't the hire car company that charged my card, it was Expedia!

Each time the email comes from a different person and completely ignores the emails I have sent. What value does Expedia offer? ZERO in my view, far better to go direct to the airline, hotel, hire car & travel companies.

Get onboard and nominate Expedia for a well deserved Choice Shonky Award! If you book anything Expedia, do not expect any customer service.

Dodgy Travel Website

I booked a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Shanghai for December 20th via Expedia. However, when I checked the Expedia app two days later, I found my booking in the cancelled section. There was no notification from Expedia via email, phone, or any other means regarding the cancellation.

I contacted their online support and was informed that the airline had cancelled my flight, and I would receive a refund within 7-10 business days. It's now been almost two months, and I still haven't received the refund.

Interestingly, I booked the same flight through Agoda after the cancellation on Expedia. That booking was also cancelled, but I received a refund from Agoda three weeks ago. Despite both bookings being for the same flight with the same airline, Expedia has continued to say they are still reviewing my refund, while Agoda already refunded my money.

I've spent countless hours speaking with their customer service representatives via chat, phone, and email. If you want to avoid extra headaches, I strongly suggest not booking flights through Expedia. Although I've booked hotels through them in the past without issue, this has been the worst experience I've ever had with booking flights.

Paid $649 for flights that were never booked

I paid Expedia $649 for flights in Australia and they never made the booking. I checked with the airline and they have no record of my flights at all and referred me back to Expedia.
This was a hopeless task as their support system is completely useless.
Looks like I've lost my money but I've raised a dispute with my bank hoping they might be able to help. I doubt if they can and I feel like I've been scammed.

Scammers that should not have an…

Scammers that should not have an Australian business licence!I cancelled a flight within half an hour of when I booked it as I had gotten the day wrong. In the flight confirmation email it said I had the right of free cancellation until midnight the next day. Their online chat is a bot which referred me to the airline. The airline referred me back as the booking occurred through Expedia. I had to work my way through the 'chat' with the bot again and waited 2.5 hrs (I took screenshots!) until I got a human at the other end. They are trained to reject everything. First she didn't want to know about the free cancellation that was promised in the confirmation email. Then I was past the 24 hr deadline. When I asked her to check in the communication that I had contacted the 'chat' with the bot very shortly after booking she admitted that I had. And yet she wanted to deduct $330 cancellation fee! I can't remember what I said that she went to discuss with her superiors and 'will do all I can to get you a full refund'. The whole thing dragged on for 1.5 hrs. Miracles seem to happen - she came back and said I'd get a full refund. 10 to 15 business it would take. I reminded them after 10 days and was reprimanded to be patient as it could be up to 15 business days. Three days ago emailed again, on day 15, threatened to involve Consumer Protection. No reply. No money. I am an idiot for not having read the reviews on here before booking but I never expected that kind of trouble. Stupid!
What I don't understand though is, how can they still have a business licence in Australia when they are very obviously fraudsters and are cheating people out of their money? I will lodge a complaint with Consumer Protection and will ask just that.

Stay far, far away from these scammers! Cost me 1.5k which I am now in the red as I had to pay for the new flight obviously too.

Beware Of Flight Price Bait

When search for my flight, price was $82. After completing all passenger info and payment info then clicked on Pay Now, there's a message pop up say price has increased to $95, clicked pay again then it increase to $105. It keeps increase price 3 more times and asked me $155, that's when I gave up.

This is clearly bait advertising, borderline scam for a big compapy like Expedida, wasting my time and other people's time.

Best is to lodge a complain to relevent authority and avoid this company like plague.

Tried to charge us double and wouldnt release our credit

We cancelled flights due to illness earlier in the year. Virgin kindly offered us flight credit and Expedia refuse to add the credit to our account. they said I had to book with them on chat when I was ready and that they would hold my credit. when I then went to book with them they tried to charge me double the price that Virgin were showing on their website for the exact same flight. They said that Virgin quoted them that price but when I called Virgin they said this is not possible. why on earth would anyone book with expedia for double the price when you can book direct with the airline? ACCC said this was a breach of code of conduct, they didnt care and every time I called they hung up on me or ended the chat. will never use them again, it is a scam.
