I started banking with Extraco Banks…

I started banking with Extraco Banks back in 2003. I have been banking with Extraco for 23 years, and the experience has been fantastic. Unlike big national banks, Extraco still feels like a local partner that truly cares about the community. The team at the Temple branch is incredibly polite, welcoming, and always willing to go the extra mile. I feel like a person, not just a number, when I walk through the door. Highly recommend for anyone looking for friendly, local service

I’ve been with Extraco Banks for years, and what keeps me here is the authentic 'small-town bank' feel. I especially want to thank Tiffany at the 31st St. location for going above and beyond for me. I recently moved away from Texas and was trying to transfer my deposits to a local bank after honestly trying to stay with Extraco as long as I could.
Throughout the years, everyone I’ve worked with has been equally helpful. I’ve always appreciated their transparency; I make sure to understand our contracts, and if the bank can’t meet a specific need, I never fault them because they are always upfront and honest. It’s rare to find a bank that balances professional rules with such a personal, helpful touch. I'll truly miss banking here! I only wish I could recall the names of many of the others who have assisted me recently and throughout the years.
Branch Name: Extraco Banks

The Gatesville and Copperas Cove…

The Gatesville and Copperas Cove branches are the worst for car loans and general services. Over the course of a few years, they have shunned us on all requests for unjustifiable reasons. The latest is a single torn 20 dollar bill I had that tore in the wind on my farm and I could not find the other half. The teller told me it had to be 75 percent intact, according to "their policy". Nevermind trying to help me with my problem by referring me to the FED, who will replace torn bills on a case by case basis. I finally got a good service provider to usurp the Gatesville branch teller on this ridiculous encounter. Then two years ago, when interest rates were low, I went to the teller at Copperas Cove Extraco, and they refused to deposit an 8000 dollar credit card convenience check with 0 percent interest. They told us it was their "policy" not to accept these kinds of checks anymore. Hold and behold, I did not accept this bogus garbage, so I went to their auto teller machine on the lot and it accepted it. They refused to explain this flaw in their "policy" either. And online banking on the phone application will also accept because I have continued to do that. And then, after financing a car for three years and paying in full, they refused to finance another. Just more of the same garbage we've come to expect from Extraco. I got the new vehicle financed immediately elsewhere. So now they've cancelled our account because of my abrasive attitude with Them in Gatesville for never even trying to apologize to me for the 20 dollar bill fiasco. It is good we are now with another bank who really cares about all their customers.

Not the greatest bank in the world

Not the greatest bank in the world. I was with this bank for about two years and had several issues. First and foremost, a large portion of the people that I dealt with on the phone when I had issues were rude and dismissive. They seemed annoyed that I had even called. That aside...here are the other issues that I ran into...

1. Their debit card is a DISCOVER debit. I didn't even know that existed. Most debit cards are Mastercard or Visa but theirs is Discover. The problem is that, due to higher processing fees, there are A LOT of businesses that don't accept Discover. This became a REAL problem as was one of the driving factors on me leaving this bank. It's very embarrassing to be at a business lunch and go to pay only to have you card declined because they don't accept Discover.

2. My debit card number was stolen and used fraudulently. It was strange to me because when I first got the card, it was CONSTANTLY getting declined because of suspected fraud, then I had to confirm the purchase and it would go through. HOWEVER, on the one time it actually WAS fraudulent, they accepted the transaction. When I found out, I called them and they cancelled the card immediately. HOWEVER, it took them three weeks to give me my money back. They said this was because they had to do an investigation to confirm it was fraud. I have had my card stolen before at another "national" bank and the money was immediately returned. I guess this is the downside to working with a small regional bank.

3. Once I had decided to move my account away from this bank, I went online to turn off my debit card in case I had any auto-pay stuff that I had forgot to change. There was no way to do that. So...I called the bank and ask them to suspend my card. They said they would. Then two weeks later, I got notifications of eight transactions that went through AFTER my card was suspended. They honored the transactions DESPITE saying they had turn the card off. This caused my account to overdraft as I had already moved most of my money to the new bank. I ended having to go into the bank and speak with someone to get them to shut the card down. Despite admitting it was their fault, they charged me HUNDREDS of dollars in overdraft fees. They said if I didn't pay them they would report my account to collections so I had to pay.

Don't let these people hold your money hostage. I understand not wanting to do business with big national banks but if thats the case, you can do WAY better than Extraco Banks. Unfriendly staff and sketchy banking practices. STAY AWAY
