I love my Food Basics!

The Food Basics I go to is super easy to get to from where I live. Although groceries are very expensive, I can rest easy knowing that I've got good deals in comparison to other stores. Also, there is so much variety! I have a special diet and have been able to find everything I need and more, from my lovely Food Basics. They are reliable and I am glad I can find everything from cocoa to miso soup. Food Basics helps make eating a joy.

Basics grocery Store Dundas and 427

The prices at Basics Dundas and 427 are absolutely ridiculously high!! Many flyer products are not stalked eventho there is empty shelves and the sales price is attached to give the impression of sold out, they didn't have it in the first place and there's no substitutions or rain checks anymore. I boycott Loblaws and Metro because of their prices and now Basics falls into the same camp. A really pissed off customer behind me in line said the higher prices are to compensate for the Moi points program. Probably true! The chicken and other meats look like they have seen better days. And don't get me started on the rude cashiers but who blames them when there is only 1 cashier and 15 people lined up. The little hat wearing loud dunce on cash 1 yelled down the chain, is there really that many customers or is she exaggerating? I could have slapped her!
I'm done with this place. Heading out of my neighborhood to No Frills for tinned goods and Starskys for fruit, veg, meat, cheeses and bakery. I also split My time at Brandts Warehouse for fantastic meats and German/Polish delectable.
Basics does not deserve our patronage!!

Food Basics charged $121.50 for a $68.54 delivery order and not refunding

Feb 24 was charged $121.50 for a $68.54 Food Basics online Food Basics purchase. Called immediately to get reimbursed the difference but rep said she would request refund for $117.87. Same situation occurred a couple of weeks earlier –Metro refunded the difference. Called Customer Service and sent emails multiple times. Issue has been in "Pending Refund" for 17 days as of today. There’s an issue weekly with my Metro/Food Basics purchases. In fact normally 20-40% of items are not available so I have to purchase up to 3 times weekly. They don't care about their customers. What can I do to get them to refund me the overpayment they charged? I have since opened a yearly PC Express pass for $29 for a year of unlimited deliveries. Haven't experienced any issues. Loblaws, No Frills is much better experience on website no issues.

Food Basics home delivery is up…

Food Basics home delivery is up charging consumers on substituted items. Is is being done via InstaCart who is handling home deliveries. Many items are listed in stock when ordering but are generally substituted with higher price items. I will give some quick examples. Primo pasta on sale for $1.68 most items were substituted with another brand at $2.49. Selection brand 340g shredded cheese at $4.88 substituted with Selection 620g for $10.49 Food Basics website states substitutions will be at same price or lower. Also of note some sale items were sold out within first day of sale and appear not to be restocked by end of sale. I ordered twice to verify that is what is going on. Can anyone say Class Action Lawsuit. lol.

They do not respond you.

1. I inquiried about an apple with roots inside with picture via web CS page. I never had their response.
I had some issue regarding the price on the receipt.
2. I called customer service, when the lady told me that the store manager would call me soon.
The store never called.

They're incredibly cunning

They're incredibly cunning, arbitrarily raising prices. If they see you as a long-time customer, the price might suddenly increase by 25% or more. For example, one pizza snack dramatically increased in price from 2.87 to 3.99, which increased 40%.

Do not use their click and collect

Do not use their click and collect.

I gave them three shots. The first one it took 10 minutes to get someone to answer the phone once I had arrived, the second one I waited 45 minutes in my car for the order to be brought to me and this third time I called every 10 minutes or 30 minutes and each time was told that they hadn't picked my order yet. So at 4:45 I told them to cancel my order. That should have been waiting for me at 4:00 p.m.

Absolute garbage service. Don't even bother.

I was so disappointed cuz of that rude behavior next time I would try to go to other stores. She shouldn’t treat customer that way but she did it and was not apologized at all .

One out of three deliveries received. Not bad?

Three times I have tried to order a full cart of groceries online. Only once have I actually received my order. The website sometimes glitches when ordering specials. Customer service says "sorry, that happens."

My most recent order was shopped twice by two instacart shoppers and cancelled at the checkout stage. The second sent me a photo of the self-checkout with an ecommerce error and apologized, saying this happens a lot and something needs to be reset with the order. I contacted Foodbasics customer service. They said they'd have to contact instacart. My order was then cancelled with no notification. I did not want the order cancelled; I wanted my groceries delivered.
Foodbasics has been offering online delivery for a while now. How does it not work as intended?

WNOT HAPPY WITH CHECKOUThat you need is an express cash…

What you need is an express cash out.Did some shopping there yesterday and was very disappointed as well as others wanting to purchase a few items thinking it express.A couple ahead of me had a grocery cart filled to the top of cart.I asked if they would let me ahead of them considering I only had a few items to purchase. With a rude NO .There was no sign to indicate express. I called to speak to manager when I got home and was told NO EXPRESS LINE.VERY DISAPPOINTED AS WELL AS A FEW OTHER SENIORS WERE.THIS LOCATION IS UPPER WENTWORTH AND RYMAL .SO BE READY TO WAIT. NOT HAPPY. SHOULD CHANGE THE RULE AND MAKE AN EXPRESS LANE.

Food basic app

I have used the online food basic app. I find it easy to navigate and conveinant having your groceries delivered to your doorstep. However, the people that are doing the shopping for you. Simply don't care! As it seems they are rushing and not paying attention to the condition of the goods. Most of the groceries I have received, I had to go back to the grocery store and return them. Due to spoiled or unhealthy looking products. Which defeats the purpose of this service. It's unfortunate for someone who may be elderly and needs this type of service. Bottom line. I am paying for my groceries, it's not free or charity. Do better!

The Food Basics on 1277 York Mills Rd…

The Food Basics on 1277 York Mills Rd is not the cleanest, nor the most well-kept place, with a stale smell throughout. 10 minutes in there is as much as I can suffer to pick up on weekly specials and non-perishable needs. Go elsewhere for produce, bakery and meats. Because according to the numerous reviews, it's known to stock rotten meat, wilted, moldy produce and bread. When I was in there, all the "fresh" ginger looked shrivelled and dried. But the staff mostly have been very helpful and polite, some even going out of their way to accommodate you, even on a busy day when they have their hands full— except for one who sternly demanded “don’t be switching out" the cracked eggs in the carton for fresh ones LOL As if I were replacing less expensive ones for a higher-priced one. The lack of self-awareness of this staff saying this while rotten meat, wilted and moldy produce and bread have been known to plague the isles, is absolute hilarity and irony …Perhaps if their quality-control was more up to health code standards— or just First World standards, customers wouldn’t have to perform this remedial task of inspecting an egg carton for cracked eggs themselves. I get that Food Basics isn’t Erewhon, but rotten. moldy, damaged food-- and this includes cracked eggs, really shouldn’t be even acceptable for swine, let alone paying customers. Nor should a customer be scolded at for doing their own QC inspection.

Diaper changing on the floor of the supermarket

Aside from trying to duck scooters in the store while shopping, today I saw something I never would have imagined in a supermarket. There were three women sitting down on the floor of the supermarket changing the diaper of one of their kids. I was so shocked !!! This I’m a store where there’s produce everywhere.
