Poor facilities and Understaffed: Worse than the NHS

I chose Fortius Clinic for private surgery but received substandard care. A private hospital should not be this poorly managed.
• Safety Failure: My nurse call buzzer was broken. Despite being promised 15-minute checks, staff failed to monitor me before or after my operation.
• Understaffed: I was told they were "too busy" moving other patients to even check on me.
• Zero Oversight: If my wife hadn't arrived after 8pm, I would have had no way to call for help or even get the water I needed post-surgery.
• Substandard Facilities: The room was very basic, the TV was not working, and there was no room for overnight stay
Leaving a post-op patient with a broken emergency buzzer and no manual checks is professional negligence. Save your money and go elsewhere.

This is a factory churning patients day…

This is a factory churning patients day in day out. The pre op info pack lacks a lot of info which is crucial, like do you need to be fasting before undergoing the op? Basic info. Once you are operated, they do not want to know you. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone who needs orthopaedic treatment. There are far better clinics around. They also put a lot of pressure to get rid of you as soon as you are operated. It is a factory.

The clinical care is outstanding but that's it

The clinical care is outstanding, but everything else needs attention. The nurse had no room to do my pre-op. The hospital is beautiful but has no attention for clinical needs f.e. you can't manage the lights from your bed, the bed light blinds you, the shower is not draining well and water flows all over, the equipment is flimsy, the food is not tailored for upset post op needs and you receive a survey with missing questions, only answers so I have to use this tool....

Payments and billing

My problem with Fortius doesn't relate to clinical care, but to payments. The billings and payments teams are disjointed, and the invoice issuing and call centre are completely dysfunctional. Getting a response by email is impossible, and the call centre cross refers to other team members and then auto-cuts off, and that's assuming you can get through to the call centre at all. As it stands, Fortius has accessed my credit card and deducted GBP819 without authority and there's apparently no way for me to recover those funds. So if you're thinking of using the (excellent) physicians at the clinic, I would check pricing and payment mechanics upfront.

I had my Bilateral Hip Replacement in Fortius Wigmore Street London!

I had my Bilateral Hip Replacement in January and I am pleased to say that the Service from Dr Witt and his Team is absolutely a 1st class Service. I had arthroscopies under Dr Witt when it was the Schoen clinic so I had built a lot of Trust in Dr Witt and rather than have the Private Surgery Locally, I decided that Mr Witt was the person I had 💯 trust & confidence in.
Dr Witt is a fantastic, tentative Surgeon who fully assesses your situation.
Emanuella my ward nurse gave me dignity in helping with toileting, showering even hair drying, she is a Credit to her profession and Fortius Clinic!
Within two weeks at home I was dressing pants and shoes on, I was able to move my legs in and out of the bed, do all Post Operative Exercises and use very little Aids! I was in a wheelchair 7 years prior, my Life Quality has completely soared!
The Orthopaedic Nursing Team are excellent, from in-ward Care to only a matter of texting Marcos the Supervising ON to getting a reply immediately to my post operative queries. I’ve never had that, it was very reassuring.
My Nurses onsite we incredible mentioning Emanuella, Magdelaina who was excellent with a Full discharge Package, Brigida, Maria, Tamir, Ana, Carmen, Dominica, Mary. ♥️ 🫂 ~ thank you for contributing to changing my life quality! Kathryn.

This was a terrible experience

This was a terrible experience. I'm sure the medical staff and consultants are all capable and professional, but the staff at the Wigmore Street clinic, to which I was referred for a steroid injection, could not have been more inept, indifferent and clueless if they tried. Firstly, the appointment which the consultant I saw promised to organise for me did not happen, and after days of calling them and getting answering machines and The Secretary is On Holiday messages, I finally called them myself. No record of anything. After walking them through the entire history, they reluctantly gave me an appointment , though they couldn't find the MRI imaging they had been sent. When I got there - having been made to wait another week for the wretched appointment -l I was sent from pillar to post, sent to the wrong department, kept waiting because some genius hadn't told the doctor I was there, and generally exposed to incompetence at the highest level. I was very angry, given that I handed over an eye-watering amount of money and was subjected to nothing but delay, ignorance and apathy on the part of the general staff. I will not be returning to this clinic.

Excellent

Having been told by Spire Health and Nuffield that I was looking at weeks and weeks to wait for injections to my shoulder, after 2 full working days wait for a response, with 4 days needed to just process the form the Fortius Clinic were a godsend. Aaron in bookings had me seen that very day by a brilliant doctor. The facilities were great. Can not praise them enough.

Staff were not patient or caring

Staff were not very patient or caring. This was not my first MRI but if it had been I would have been even more upset. I was not given any time to get comfortable before going into the MRI machine, the staff in the scanning room completely rushed me and gave me no information on how long the scan would take. No staff members helped me afterwards or explained if I could leave and when I asked at reception they were not helpful.

Unwelcoming, lack of staff - no explanation for delays

Unwelcoming. Clinic very bare and virtually no staff. The staff who were there were more interested in talking to each other than looking after anyone.
The procedure I had done was very painful - not the doctor's fault, but I had asked for a sedation and it was very obvious that it just didn't suit them to give it to me.
I certainly won't return there.

Dr Ben Thomas never asked a single…

Dr Ben Thomas never asked a single question about medication already prescribed. I am an 80 year old with previous brain injury.
I was talked AT rather than Listened to.
Dreadful expensive experience.

One the poorest clinic experience I've ever had !

This was my 1st time and will very likely be the last. Poor experience from start to finish:
- over 30min wait on 1st appointment with no acknowledgement or communication
- being ignored by a nurse that just walks in to fill up her water bottle and the whole time can't even do the basics of greeting a patient sat in the waiting room, talk about feeling welcome in a clinic !
- all to then be expedited by the doctor himself in 5min, for a 1st ever consultation with someone who is in serious back pain and still dragged herself all the way to come and get help
- then every single follow up appointment had a mix up (a mix up in the MRI appointment of which I was told on the day, 40min before the time of appointment; then being asked, again last minute, to accommodate the doctor with a phone follow up consultation rather than face to face, with all the work calendar reshuffling implications, etc...)
- the said phone consultation teaching me absolutely nothing more than the classic fit-all song of "we need to get you moving more"... And I have no idea what the doctor even defined as "more" given he barely spent any time at all thoroughly enquiring about my pain, history or current routine.
So bottom line is this place just charged hefty consultation and MRI fees to my private insurance for a service which name overall deserves nothing of the "care" in healthcare.
I would have honestly given this clinic a flat zero if that was a thing in the rate card.
There are a lot of good and caring healthcare workers out there, but enough is enough with those that care more about cashing in than actually working thoroughly to treat people !! We have to do better with our health system, and demand more of it !
