GO Outdoors - York (Express) Reviews 

The staff at the York store were difficult to commincate with. I went to collect some orders that I had placed online. I asked one assistant when enteres where to go for collections. She simply said anywhere and just stared. I asked if she could deal with the order, she then simply said yes and nothing more. I then brought up my order number and she was interested and just asked for my name and what the contents were. I said here is my order number but again, she wasn't jnterested and said that she wanted to know what I ordered so she could identify the packages. While waiting, another member of staff was behind the till plainly looking board scrolling on their phone while cuatomers were mulling around. She finally decided to serve someone with minimal communication and just stared at them. It seems effdctive communication in this store seems to be difficult for them. This is one srore I won't be rushing back to anytime soon.

Go Outdoors in York was the third shop I'd tried to buy a pair of walking sandals. My husband and I had decided to look round York's shops on Bank Holiday Monday. As soon as we entered Go Outdoors, assistant Daniel greeted us and asked what we were looking for. He took no time to go upstairs and come back downstairs with the only pair of women's sandals they had left, which fortunately were my size! Daniel waited patiently while I tried the sandals on (I have "funny-shaped" feet) and walked around in them. He had informed me from the start of the reasonable sale price. I was very pleased to have at last found some suitable sandals, especially as most shops were running out of the type I wanted, especially in my size. The reduced price made me even happier. Daniel served me with courtesy, attention and good knowledge of the product.

I spent nearly £300, Emily helped me with every step, if there was clothes I was after but not my size, she would go check the back which helped, I was able to use my Armed forces discount as well which saved me £129.

Holly was really helpful, assisted with my shoe purchase, then didn’t mind searching for my membership.

Firstly I will say we meant to send our delivery to the big Go Outdoors outside York but the misses did not check properly before pressing click. However, the service i received when I went down was brilliant, I needed to make a change to the order and it was sorted in minutes, I did not have my go outdoors card, not an issue, found my details and updated the system. Overall a great experience.

Stu was amazing. I needed to get a pair of boots for my child with sensory issues and he was so patient. I will definitely be coming back.

Emily was very helpful in supporting me and my inquisitive 4 year old in selecting some camping chairs, demonstrating the different models and pointing out the various offers to ensure i got best value for my money.

I came to this store to buy extra dry bags but also in the faint hope someone there could fix my head torch (or I’d have to buy another one. Despite this meaning one less sale, Stu was quickly working his magic having been called over by Emily. Success! Old head rider torch working but I did end up buying quite a few other things. Both Stu & Emily were professional, friendly & very knowledgeable- they exceeded my expectations & I’ve signed up for a members card as a direct result.

The staff were very helpful answering all my questions and giving advice about the product I was buying.At no time was I under any pressure and was impressed by their efficiency.

Was served very nicely and bought a Tibet 55 rucksack from you. But, I was told it wasn’t waterproof and you didn’t have the correct size in stock.
When about to buy one with the tag from the rucksack to give me the dimensions required, I was surprised to see the tag saying ‘Rain Cover Included’ on the front.
When I got home found that this was indeed the case hiding under a zip on the bottom of the pack.

Performed as expected. I was only receiving a click and collect package though.

Visited Go Outdoors York today Wednesday 13 May. I was served by Daniel who was lovely. He helped me with boots. Jacket. Fleece and rucksack. All in all a very good experience

I visited York (express store) on Saturday 2May 2026. Was served by Ben Lambert he got me exactly what I wanted in a pair of walking shoes I’m 73 and I sometimes struggle with bending to tie the laces nothing too much trouble for Ben he tied them for me so I could see if they fit ok.
I much prefer to go to this store rather the one at Van Guard Monks Cross as I know I am going to get a great service.
Thankyou again Ben and he had remembered I hadn’t been in the store for a while it’s nice to be remembered.
