Misleading marketing Gordon Ramsay Mayfair and horrible food

I visited Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill – Mayfair on 26 December for lunch.

A few hours before my reservation, I called the restaurant to ask whether the Christmas menu advertised at the restaurant entrance was available. During that call, I specifically asked about the £27 menu, and I was clearly told that it was available.

Upon arrival, I was informed that the Christmas menu was not available on bank holidays. I explained that I had called earlier that day and had been told otherwise, but the staff maintained that the menu was not available. I then checked the printed menu on-site, and there was no indication anywhere that the Christmas menu was excluded on bank holidays.

As a result, both my sister and I felt misled by what can only be described as poorly managed and misleading marketing communication.

Unfortunately, the experience was further disappointed by the food itself, which was well below expectations for a restaurant of this name and price point.

Given Gordon Ramsay’s public reputation for harshly criticising standards in other restaurants, this experience was particularly surprising.

I tried to book using the virgin voucher. I contacted them on 24th November with my two dates 3/4th December no reply, resent the email and they got back to me on 7th December, I said I can do 29th December then said I can’t use my voucher because it’s expiring on 21st. I asked for their complaints procedure but they never sent it. Going to change it to another experience that can answer emails in a timely manner.

preaching what you don’t practice

Frankly, Gordon Ramsay’s prepared meals are a real disappointment. This man has built a career yelling that other people’s food is bland, poorly executed, soulless… yet he puts his name on dishes that fall into the exact same traps. Your four-cheese pasta that tasted like “cheese soaked in water”? That says it all. When a product meant to carry the signature of a world-class chef lacks this much flavor, there’s a serious problem.

The reality is simple: branding has taken priority over quality. It feels like the Ramsay name is being cashed in on rather than delivering actual taste, and that’s unforgivable coming from someone who claims to champion well-executed cuisine. In this case, plenty of cooks would have been justified in yelling at him. Because if a restaurateur served him something this bland, we all know exactly how he’d react — he’d explode.

In short: it’s a perfect example of “preaching what you don’t practice.”

When you’re highly critical of others…

When you’re highly critical of others in the industry and make out you’re the best you need to meet that expectation. This is the issue a. Ramsay has portrayed himself as a food genius. Kitchen nightmares was a great way to satisfy his massive ego and narcissistic personality. Hard to watch him on tv a lot of the time.
Being critical is easy and reputation is everything. Ramsay is miles ahead of people like Jamie Oliver, for example. In my opinion Oliver is not even a chef and knows nothing about food which is why is restaurant business failed. Ramsay is in a class of his own and is a fine chef but he needs to focus more on maintaining a good reputation. That passion and desire to be the best is not always enough. You need to be able to share that knowledge and it is here what Ramsay might be failing. You can’t do everything yourself.

I also visited his street food restaurant in Covent Garden as well which is tailored more at lower prices. Twice the money as Honest burgers but not as good though. He copied the menu and even the home made lemonade. People don’t rely on the name any more. They want all boxes ticked including value for money and quality. When you portray yourself and gloat about being the best you need provide the best. People won’t settle for less and Ramsay has shot himself in the foot because customers now expect nothing less than absolute perfection and no one can maintain that standard.

I noticed this restaurant closed down so this review no longer applies.

Zero stars

The worst food experience I’ve ever had. French fries amount and quality worse than MacDonalds. Steak half grissel. The price. I got an old fiat but paid for a Mercedes. Biggest rip off ever. Don’t go there.

Gordon Ramsay Food Crawling with Fungus…

Gordon Ramsay Food Crawling with Fungus Gnats...and then completely ignored!
Absolutely shocked to find our food at Street Burger swarming with nasty black fungus gnats. This food could not be eaten when we told the gentleman in the restaurant, he walked away with his nose in the air as if he wished we would just disappear. He could see the fungus gnats everywhere and the food we had left. Nothing was done, and we were left to pay the full bill plus the "optional service charge" that was actually added to our £60. bill for two inedible burgers and fries. Just don't go there, health and safety need to visit!!!!

The man at the top of his Castle

I have to say that trying to get in-touch with whomever takes care of his customers that have a comment....they seem to be incompetent, for the simple reason that they will not respond to you!! I have sent emails to two of Gordon Ramsay`s so called email contacts, with no success .
Mr.Ramsay is probably at the top of his Castle and has no need to answer to anyone!!!

Bread Street kitchen

Bread Street kitchen - Limehouse
Unbelievable and extremely disappointing. Gordon Ramsay on television everyday, upgrading and educating restaurant owners and staff in the USA on how to re-invent their restaurants to become outstanding... in contrast to the restaurants he assigns his good name to such as The Bread Street Kitchen. Service below standard and food was very mundane.
Initial review ignored, I expect this second review to be ignored and unacknowledged. As they say ignorance speaks volumes.
Would never recommend this restaurant. Message to the many - save your money or choose to spend more wisely in a restaurant where your custom is valued.

Went for my anniversary food was bland no seasoning, my Mac n cheese never came, server didn’t say anything just removed from the bill. My husband had to ask where his appetizer wings were and our food came before they appetizer, they were undercooked, he ordered fish & it was mushy. I ate 2 bites of the chicken & left still hungry. Wasn’t allowed to order fries because it was dinner but husband could order fries cuz he got fish. Not a variety to choose from. Overall horrible experience

Unfortunately it’s not positive

I’m talking as professional for Catering and Hospitality, completely dissatisfied from the experience from the trial shift made at the Bread Street near the St. Paul Cathedral, they pretended to be organised but in reality it’s completely the opposite. I don’t know how the people can say it’s a good restaurant, when in reality it’s just because of the name, the stress it’s higher and it’s not enjoyable. If they are short of staff it’s not because there aren’t people who wants to work, it’s because there isn’t any interesting point to work for such horrible companies and this it’s to confirm that London other restaurants won’t find any good staff for their ridiculous organisations.

Gordon Ramsey High

Gordon Ramsey High
We were pleasantly surprised by the intimate size of the dining room, which accommodates only 12 guests—8 during our visit. The panoramic views of East London from the 60th floor are truly breathtaking. The six-course set menu was exquisite, complemented beautifully by the carefully selected wine pairings. Service was impeccable, with staff who were both friendly and highly knowledgeable.
If I had one minor critique, it would be the seating; the high stools, while stylish, became a little uncomfortable over the course of the three-hour experience. Pricing was in line with expectations for a restaurant of this standard.
A particularly thoughtful touch was the handwritten card, signed by all the staff, congratulating us on our 20th wedding anniversary—a gesture that made the evening even more memorable.

Battersea Power Station…

We went to the Battersea Power Station to celebrate an anniversary. We chose the Gordon Ramsay restaurant, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar. It was most enjoyable and good value. What made it even more pleasurable was our waitress, Talila. They were all pleasing, but you felt that Talila went that extra mile. She certainly has a great persona and management material. Thank Talila kindly. Miriam & Peter Gilbert.

No honour at Bread Street Kitchen

On Sunday 30th March made a Booking at Bread Street Kitchen St Paul's, as I wanted to use my £100 Global Dining Credit through Amex. Had been to Bread Street several times and had always enjoyed the Service and Food.

On arrival, my friend and I saw that the Pizza Restaurant downstairs did an unlimited Pizza offer. I asked the Gentleman at Reception if could use the Global Credit downstairs, he said yes no problem, and so we cancelled the Upstairs Reservation. Food was good and the Service as well.

On receiving my Amex Statement there was no Credit of £100, so I called Amex who said the Vendor title does not come up as Gordon Ramsay Bread Street Kitchen, but would look into it. I also called Bread Street Kitchen who said downstairs was Gordon Ramsay and was told to contact Guest relations.

The response from Gordon Ramsay guest relations was yes their member of Staff made an error, but they were not willing to give me the Credit against the meal but offered me a Voucher for the same amount to come back and spend.

I booked only because it got me £100 off instead I they made the mistake and admitted so in writing but now offer me a Voucher which for them to serve me a Meal does not cost them £100 in fact very little.

If Gordon Ramsay's can not honour their honest mistake, then they do not appreciate the loyalty of their Customers. I am now £100 out of Pocket!!

This is the worst frozen chicken pot…

This is the worst frozen chicken pot pie I have ever had hands-down period! The crust is terrible, there was no sauce, and it had mushrooms in there which was not labeled on the front cover which if it had I definitely wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It is just pure nastiness, so disappointed in you Gordon!

Frozen chicken pot pie

This chicken pot pie you buy frozen of Gordon Ramsay’s is disgusting! 🤢 I wish I could post a picture of it here! I warmed it up like it said and then lifted the crust because it was falling off and there was hardly any filling inside and hardly had any taste but salt! The crust was like a saltine cracker that you couldn’t hardly bite into! Yeah never again! Over $6 for something I had to throw away! Ridiculous! For someone that’s so critical of everyone else’s cooking you would think his food would taste a lot better!

Massive disappointment

Food was over cooked, over priced and honestly have had better breakfasts in a greasy spoon.

They forgot my drink.

No sauces offered.

Service was slow.

Quality was not great. Bread was dry and stale, fried eggs were hard.

Lousy service

First order was canceled after 5 min. When the second order arrived the main course arrived before the starter. When the bill came they automatically put 15% gratuity plus extra charge to the waiter sepately. What a joke! Avoid this restaurant unless you enjoy poor service.
