Extremely concerning data breach

Extremely concerning data breach and poor handling of the situation

I paid £810 to GP Matters for a China visa medical and was extremely disappointed by the way my personal data was handled.

After my appointment, GP Matters sent me a medical report belonging to another patient. This was not simply a minor administrative error; the document contained highly sensitive personal information, including their medical information, address and passport details. I was given access to information that I should never have received.

What concerns me even more is the obvious question this raises about the security of my own information and whether my medical report could have been disclosed to somebody else. While GP Matters have stated that my information was not disclosed to another individual, I have no way of independently verifying this.

I contacted the company expecting the seriousness of the situation to be recognised. Although they apologised and subsequently provided my correct report, they refused to offer any refund, stating that the medical examination had been completed. I find this response extremely disappointing given that the service involved a serious breach of confidentiality and the mishandling of highly sensitive personal data.

I was also instructed to securely delete the report belonging to the other patient, which I of course did. However, the fact that this information was sent to me in the first place has seriously undermined my confidence in the company’s handling of personal and medical information.

For a company dealing with medical examinations and visa applications, I would expect an exceptionally high standard of data protection and confidentiality. Unfortunately, my experience has left me questioning whether that standard is being met.

I would strongly encourage anyone considering using GP Matters to think carefully about how comfortable they are entrusting such sensitive personal information to this company.

Disappointing

Had a reasonably pleasant first experience here; however unfortunately, due to continued unanswered emails and an AI telephone system that is not able to make appointments and seemingly isn’t fit for purpose, it's become really disappointing. Won't be back, which is a shame as the treatment I received in the first instance has helped my chronic condition, but I can't spend the lengthy admin time chasing a business that simply refuses to answer or even acknowledge me.

Thank you for promptly responding to my review.

Firstly, I would like to note that I have never had any personal contact with you, Mr. Diez. The fact that you are now referencing information I shared privately with Dr. McAlister does not fill me with confidence in patient-doctor confidentiality. In fact, it raises further concerns for me.

Since you’ve chosen to reference my private correspondence, I will clarify that after the first dose of Botox, I did mention to Dr. McAlister that there had been improvement. However, I also explained in a follow-up email that, due to my personality and severe anxiety, I had significantly downplayed my symptoms at the time — not wanting to let her down or "jinx" the treatment outcome. I was honest about this in my email, but unfortunately, this was not acknowledged.

You state that "further sessions are chargeable as new treatments." To be clear: I never asked for further treatment. What I did ask for was support and advice. Dr. McAlister reduced the concerns I expressed in my emails to simply making another £300 appointment, while not addressing the core issues I had raised. If you've read our email correspondence — which your response has made apparent — then you will see that I was reaching out for help, not requesting more Botox.

While Dr. McAlister did eventually reply, it was only after I had waited three weeks and sent a follow-up message. This level of communication does not meet the standard I would expect from private healthcare.

I fully understand that hyperhidrosis is a complex and difficult condition to manage. This is my daily reality, and it affects every part of my life.

I'm not disappointed by the Botox itself — I’m disappointed by the treatment experience and the lack of care, which your response continues to reflect.

I had already expressed my interest in discussing alternative treatments. That’s why I contacted Dr. McAlister in the first place. Instead, your response shifts the responsibility back onto me and misrepresents the purpose of my communication. I reached out to you directly for advice, and the stress I've experienced has been a direct result of that interaction.

To this day, Dr. McAlister has still not acknowledged any of my concerns — and now, I am left with additional individuals being privy to private information without my consent.

This is not acceptable.

Reply from GP Matters

Thank you for your follow-up comments. To clarify, I am the practice manager at GP Matters and part of my role is to respond to patient feedback, including reviews. In doing so I have access to appointment records, but we take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and never disclose private medical details in a public forum.

In responding earlier we referred only to general aspects of your care that you had already mentioned in your review. We will not be discussing your personal clinical information further here.

We acknowledge your feedback that our responses to your emails felt brief and insufficiently supportive. This is something we are reflecting on and will work to improve.

As your concerns relate to your personal care, we invite you to contact us directly so that we can respond fully and discuss the best way forward for you.

Disappointed and Let Down by GP Matters – Not Recommended for Hyperhidrosis Treatment

I wasn't going to waste any more of my time on this, but seeing so many positive reviews makes it important for me to share my experience. I hope it helps others make a more informed decision, especially those dealing with hyperhidrosis.

I attended GP Matters for Botox treatment to help manage my severe facial hyperhidrosis. This has been a debilitating condition for me since my early teens, and at 29, Botox felt like my last resort. After seeing the positive reviews online and reading the section of their website dedicated to hyperhidrosis treatment, I felt reassured that they had the right expertise.

I booked in with Dr. McAlister for facial Botox, costing £300 — an amount I was more than willing to pay. The clinic itself is clean and welcoming, and during the consultation, Dr. McAlister appeared understanding and confident that Botox could help with my condition.

Three weeks later, still experiencing the same symptoms, I returned for a follow-up. I want to be clear: I understand that Botox doesn’t work for everyone, and I wasn’t expecting miracles. But based on the information provided both on their website and in person, I was hopeful this would be a significant step forward.

After around five weeks with no improvement, I reached out to Dr. McAlister by email. I disclosed highly personal information, including photos of myself during intense sweating episodes. It was a vulnerable moment, but I believed I was speaking to a medical professional who would take me seriously.

Her initial reply was incredibly brief, asking when the symptoms had returned. I responded immediately, explaining that after the two appointments I had seen no improvement at all. I received no reply.

Three weeks passed with complete silence. I followed up again, desperately asking for advice. Eventually, I received another short reply suggesting I " Just book another Botox appointment to see if we can improve the result.” There was no acknowledgment of my previous emails or the distress I had shared.

When I tried to book the follow-up, I was told I would have to pay another £300 because I was “outwith” the 4–7 month effectiveness window — even though my original email was well within this period. The delay had only occurred because my earlier messages had been ignored.

I contacted Dr. McAlister again to clarify. She reiterated what reception had said and told me that there were no guarantees with Botox, and it was “up to me” whether I wanted to try again. It felt incredibly disregarding.

I want to emphasise: I was not asking for more Botox for free. I was simply looking for advice — guidance on whether there were other options or next steps. I found it pretty telling that the clinic was quick to respond when rebooking was mentioned, but completely ignored my emails when I was asking for help.

The entire experience left me feeling like I was just another transaction. I felt dismissed, unheard, and genuinely embarrassed for having trusted the clinic with such personal information.

This was supposed to be a turning point in managing a condition that severely affects my quality of life. Instead, it’s left me feeling worse, both mentally and emotionally.

If you're dealing with hyperhidrosis or are a patient looking for empathy and support, this is not the place for you.

If your case isn't straightforward, or if you're not a typical “easy fix” patient, my experience suggests that Dr. McAlister and GP Matters may not have the time or care for you.

I regret attending this clinic. I felt abandoned, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through the same.

Reply from GP Matters

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your treatment and communication with us. Hyperhidrosis is a very difficult condition to manage, and while the treatment can sometimes help, unfortunately it is not effective for everyone.

We would like to clarify a few points for balance. At your review appointment you reported some initial improvement in your symptoms "The facial sweating has definitely improved", but sadly this did not last. You did receive replies from Dr McAlister to your follow-up emails, though we acknowledge that our replies were brief and may not have provided the reassurance you were hoping for. We are sorry if you felt unsupported — that was never our intention.

Regarding fees: we provide a complimentary review appointment two weeks after the treatment, which you attended. We are always clear that treatment outcomes cannot be guaranteed and that further sessions are chargeable as new treatments. This policy is applied consistently

We do value feedback like yours, as it highlights where we can improve — especially in the way we support patients whose conditions are complex and distressing. We will take this on board and review how we handle follow-up communication in future.

If you would like to discuss alternative treatment options for hyperhidrosis, we would be very willing to do so directly.

Amazing!

Amazing!! Where do i start with Carole she is just outstanding I've been going to her for nearly 10 years for my botox. I take 3 buses in then 3 buses back to see her she is that good, in the 10 years of going I've only ever needed a tiny top up once. I call her my Fairy Godmother ✨️ she's a beautiful soul, soo talented, welcoming & friendly. Nothing is too much for her she goes above & beyond for all her clients. I would give 10 stars if I could. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my face. I had botox a few times before with other people before thank God I met Carol & they only lasted 3 months with Carol I can get 5/6 months out of it & only need it twice a year. If your nervous she will put you at ease straight away she just has such a calming & caring aura with her. Very professional & best in the world 🌎 Thank you my precious Fairy Godmother 🧚‍♀️

Avoid!

I wanted to find a decent private clinic/gp ,to have a Covid-19 Antibody test , to see If my son had the virus before. I checked gp matters web page ,where I found informations what looked like good to me, there was a test result sample what looked like my expectations. As I wanted to receive a decent lab based quantitative test result. So I booked an appointment for a Covid-19 Antibody test. I paid 100£, for a blood test, and for a next day result.
Firstly I did not received the result the next day, so I had to phone the practice and ask them to send the result to me. After that I received the result which DID NOT LOOKED like a decent quantitative result.
The result said: The test is positive, and the lab received a sample which was UNLABELLED , however this has been identified as precious and have therefore processed it!!!!!!

So I hope I dont have to explain how DISAPPOINTED IAM. The nurse did not labelled my son sons blood sample.
The result was not quantitative result, which I was EXPECTED! To see the level of antibodys in my sons blood. The higher unit means a higher immune reaction, so therefore immunity !!!
I phoned the practice again, to say how disappointed Iam with their service as Its been misleading! The practice manager , questioned me , and asked why do I need a quantitative result???? This question was so Unprofessional! I paid for a private service , and I paid for a result which was advertised on their website, and I did not received it. At the end he offered a new appointment ,for free of charge . I said I ll think about it, and will ask my boy as the nurse was absolutely unprepared and took his blood on a way which I never see in my life before. She could not take the blood for first time, but from the other arm, which is ok, but she did not disinfected the skin before inserting the needle, and she hasn't got the cotton ball, and plaster to put on his arm after the blood was taken. She did not use gloves , which in very unprofessional.
I emailed them back, saying that I ll take the opportunity to have another blood test , to receive a quantitative result THIS TIME!
And then they replied, saying there is no need for an another test, as they contacted the lab, and they said the quantitative result is 2.4. This is a real joke! You would think you ll get decent service for your money ,but You DO NOT. Disappointment and waste of time and money. Lack of professionalism .Avoid!
