Hubby paid for us to stay at The Grand…
Hubby paid for us to stay at The Grand Brighton for 3 nights and don’t we wish we didn’t bothered!!! Hotel itself is lovely in certain places , but the room we had was absolutely terrible . We had 4 air conditioning units going 24/7 right outside our bedroom window, so we didn’t sleep! Then we had water coming through an electric light above the shower from the room above ! Couldn’t use the bath as all the enamel had come off ! The paint was peeling off from the bathroom door , stained ceiling above the bath/shower abviously from water coming through the ceiling . All the sealant around the floor bath/shower was so poorly applied! Just generally for what you paid to stay at a place like this you expect it to be a lot better around the edges! We did eventually complain to reception as we had not slept for 2 nights and we were moved to 4 floors above where we were in the beginning. The room we were moved too was newly decorated and modern . I did here while we were there they are renovating the hotel , but starting from the top down .
I think if we were to stay there again I would insist on staying in rooms on the 2 top floors and nothing else

I held my 50th Party at the Grand on Saturday 9th November, I would like to extend my gratitude to the staff who handled the arrangements together with those who worked at the Party. The evening was amazing, nothing was too much trouble and the attention to detail was fantastic. I would like to thank Ben, Ash and Michalis myself and my guests were so impressed with you all, you had a smile on your face the whole evening and you were just so lovely.
Having a nice stay
Having a nice stay, a bit pricey but rooms and staff are good
A disaster from start to finish
A disaster from start to finish. Room not ready on arrival so staff offered to call me when room available; no call received. When finally got into room, kettle short-circuited electrics and most things switched off in my room & Mum’s next door. Needed new kettle. Fancied relaxing drink in bar to finish day; baby propping up the bar, and surrounded by children wandering round and playing in bar area. Asked staff what the rules are and was told there are no restrictions on children in bar area. Most well run restaurants / bars I know have designated areas where families with children can relax and enjoy themselves and also separate areas where adults who don’t want children running around them can be by themselves.
After twenty years staying at the Grand…
After twenty years staying at the Grand Brighton I can honestly say really it’s gone downhill.
It’s looking very dilapidated. The room was appalling, lift needed a good clean and breakfast, not great.
On a positive note the staff were lovey, restaurant and bar very good,
Not returning!
Sadly the concierge was rude towards my…
Sadly the concierge was rude towards my 9 year old, who was stood by the door/foyer, out of everyone's way while I stood outside in the rain, waiting for our taxi.
Hollering across the foyer to his coworker, and well within her earshot and other guests (we were guests who had signed out).
She wasn't in anyone's way, she was cold and wet from the rain and stood as I say, out of the way at the front, behind a closed, unused entrance door so what the issue was I have no idea. If they can't treat a child with kindness and respect it says it all. She felt embarrassed, and tearful which is not on. Sadly, our last visit.
The Grand is a lovely Hotel
We having been staying here at The Grand for years and love this hotel. It has recently changed ownership but much of the staff team remain the same. The friendly team (especially concierge) are what make this hotel so very special. We have stayed in various rooms including the more luxurious Seafront suites, but sometimes standard rooms too, and in my opinion all offer very good value. We stay throughout the year and have a wonderful time whether it is the height of summer or a rainy December day. Breakfast is consistently good and it is an unbeatable location. This is an iconic hotel.
A tired hotel needs an internal re-build
A tired hotel with great helpful staff, but nearly everything else was poor value for money.
For a Christmas stay in a Junior Front Suite, there was no entertainment, even the piano stayed shut and with only one lift working which didn't go to our secomd floor, a very slow service in the CYAN restaurant with a poor selection of Gluten Free food and lots of large sometimes noisy dogs in the lounge, we nearly left after 2 days.
The electronic key to our suite often failed to work and inside our suite the floor creaked badly, the bathroom had a cracked wash basin, the bath was quite deep with no grab rails, making it quite dangerous to use and the toilet stopped its flushing with a loud bang, the taps dripped and there were no drawers or shelves.
Our room had a dressing table, which was basically a plank of wood on 2 trestles, with no drawers and lots of cables visible. Even the bedside cabinets were just tables, can you imagine a bedroom with no drawers?.
Sorry but the new owners of the hotel have almost taken on a rebuild, until then we really could not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Hideous Xmas Work Party !!
Awful saw a waitress pull wine glasses from people as they were drinking from them! Was accusing people bringing their own bottle but rather then ask she just decided to yank glasses of wine from a ladies hand, but the other two ladies as they were sipping from the glass! Thats 3 people at my table without a word of warning & I complained to the waitress that was unnecessary & aggressive behaviour so she called security who non festively told Me ‘I can go the easy way or not! They did not want to hear why I complained nor did the manager at the front desk! Looked totally interested! Then other security were told by their own staff I had punched a hole in the wall & once I had left & was outside, I asked for cctv footage as was a complete lie! & the bouncer openly admitted they know that wasn’t true ! Never ever again! I have supported many charities over the decades at the Grand hotel Brighton ! Never will I set foot in there again! Disgusting behaviour. So complaint sent & a refund requested. Was there only 3 hours before the abuse commenced! Thanks Vivienne ! You need re training rude, aggressive & must told a whopper to get security to get me to leave! as she didn’t want to explain why she was assaulting other guests ! Guess her only solution was to keep me quiet for what I witnessed & to have me thrown out by security! What an upsetting & truly disturbing time! Shameful! Only gave a 1 star otherwise couldn’t send review !
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING
The service and the hotel - special. I work in customer care and this hotel and the team are just incredible.
We had a sea view superior king.
Massive.
Truly had a special stay.
I’m amazed at the reviews.
It was a treat for my mums 70 birthday and the team at The Grand couldn’t do enough.
And the breakfast……. Delicious
Dissapointing
Great location, facade and Public areas. Away from this some of the carpets are threadbare and taped over.Lifts have seen better days and are unclean. Tried to put us in a cheaper dusty room than booked. The correct room was spacious and refurbished with good quality furnishings. Unfortunately that did not include any drawers or space for clothes! No shaver point,No shelf in shower for toiletries. Carpets marked in several places. Safe complicated to use. Nespresso machine leaked and cheap coffee pods provided. Under desk there was a multi extension lead with several plugs hanging off carpet. Next door hotel had many noisy air conditioning units on low roof and in street with constant whine. Car parking at £30+per night, no valet parking available. Most staff pleasant and professional but not all. Some large dogs in residence with owners and noisy. Overall the prices charged are excessive for the quality provided. It’s a pity one of the 5 star hotel groups like Belmond, Melia etc aren’t running it because the Grand and its history deserves that level.
This was our first & last stay at the Grand
This was our first stay at the grand and I have to say it was a pleasant night along with other couples as part of our crowd ..the only thing I found was rip off was the parking ! Surely that should be complimentary or heavily discounted especially as it cost £150 a night .the room was nice but the bath/toilet was not up to standard .
But the breakfast was great to say the least ..but one of the servers was quite abrupt ..I was about to tell him off for being unprofessional ..if I come to Brighton again I will not be choosing the Grand again .there are other hotels that will welcome our custom if this one does not .
Not quite so Grand
Came for a night to celebrate my partners birthday. Have been coming to The Grand for years but this was our first return since 2021 and had heard that the hotel had been taken over and refurbished.
Check in and room was lovely, no complaints. As it was my partners birthday that night, had dinner and cocktails out locally and thought it would be nice to finish with a nightcap at midnight to toast in the new year.
The barman who I can only describe as abrupt and rude, told us in no uncertain terms that the bar was not serving any longer as there was not enough customers ( note there were about 4 or 5 couples all sat having drinks around the bar still) and therefore they were closing early.
We let him know that we were guests of the hotel and just wanted one drink which could be billed to the room in case they had tilled up, to which they answer was "there are other places in the area that are still open!"
We then went to the check-in desk and asked if there was anything they could do, to which the answer was room service would serve us in our room and it would be cheaper!
Cheaper was the price for 3 bottles of Peroni beer plus room delivery plus tax which amounted to the grand total shy of £30!!!!!
Obviously this put a real damper on the whole evening and our stay. We left feeling like, unfortunately we would not be coming back to stay at The Grand again on any future visits to Brighton.
We both work for companies where customer service is paramount and rudeness is not accepted and unfortunately this is what we found The Grand.
Being regular visitors to Brighton we have enjoyed a number stays at The Grand over the years. It’s always been a treat and we were always left with the impression that nothing was too much trouble. It’s therefore so disappointing to feedback that things at The Grand are changing and certainly not in a good way. Many of the newer members of staff display a rather unsavoury air of conceited arrogance which borders on downright rudeness – not nice.
Sorry but you will not be seeing us again.
Wonderful Birthday Outing
My best friend and I are celebrating a special Birthday together and chose The Grand as part of our precious day in Brighton. How delighted we were with our decision. The staff and in particular Manwell were so friendly and welcoming and made us feel special. The food was excellent .We are fulsome in our praise to all at The Grand Brighton, including The Manager, who took the time to listen to us and pass on our thanks to our waiter. Thank you :)
AVOID AT ALL COST, BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!
From the outside the Grand Hotel looks magnificent and probably was in it’s day. Sadly this is no longer the case. We paid £400 a night for a very dilapidated room that was far from “Grand”. The room had a distinct stale smell - probably from the 1980’s air conditioning, holes in the wallpaper that look like they were patched up by a very drunk and colour blind decorator, food from previous guests on the carpet, very cheap and nasty uPVC windows and balcony doors that don’t do anything for quiet nights sleep to not hear the very loud music from the bar across the road……….this is the bar the management don’t tell you about before you book and pay £400 a night to then not sleep and should you dare to complain to them you’ll be met with a very stern and rude response - shut up and put up. You’d be better off paying £32.95 for the NCP multi-storey car park round the back of the hotel and sleep in your car.
We love The Grand
We love The Grand, welcoming and good service with atmosphere. We always book a delux seaview room which are lovely and spacious and have a great seaview! Our favourite seaside hotel for a short break and to get some fresh sea air.
The Grand hotel foyer transports you…
The Grand hotel foyer transports you back to another time, with absolutely gorgeous boutique bedrooms & transfixing sea views. Definitely stay again but sadly disappointing 3* breakfast experience & would alternatively eat in one of Brightons many outstanding cafes or restaurants.
The perfect Brighton weekend break…
The perfect Brighton weekend break hotel, the best sea view room ever, when you yearn for some sea air and Brighton madness there is no where better to stay.

Very unimpressive stay
My wife and I stayed at the Grand for 2 nights recently. I'm afraid it was a very, very disappointing stay. The hotel states they strive to deliver an exceptional level of a comfortable atmosphere at all times. I don't accept that a dog in the next room barking continuously loudly at 11pm at night and waking us is what I would call a comfortable atmosphere. This was one of the many occasions this happened during our stay. We have spent a lot of money at this hotel in the past but will not be going back. We recently stayed at a Premier Inn near Wakehurst, Sussex which was a £100 a night cheaper than the Grand and much more enjoyable and relaxing. In my opinion The Grand has become a very tired looking and overpriced hotel.
Great Food, Great Accommodation, Great Service
I'm amazed that the hotel has any bad reviews.....but then it's all down to personal experience. I stayed in a basic non sea view room on Saturday night where our works Christmas function was being held. I have to say, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. First and foremost, every single member of staff was absolutely delightful........very friendly, very helpful........nothing was too much trouble for them..........thank you guys & girls! The entrance lounge and grand staircase looked beautiful with the Christmas decorations. Our function included dinner........ everything was perfect, and breakfast, which was included in our booking fee was as good as I have had anywhere. It is obviously not the cheapest hotel in Brighton, but for the quality of accommodation, food and customer service, it is fantastic value for money. I can honestly say, I cannot praise this place highly enough.
