Founded in 1976, the shop is currently owned and managed by Ken Costigan and Derek Moody. It's as 100% Irish now as it was guaranteed Irish back then. Since our inception as the Great Outdoors, we have welcomed many adventurers through our doors. People venturing off to the North Pole, Everest and other hard to reach places have all stocked up here before setting off. Others diving in the Red Sea or the Glacial Fjords of Iceland have been equipped through ourselves. Students on J1 visas or Australian work permits have all been looked after before heading off on their travels. No matter how big your adventure, it's still your adventure and we have always strived to make that adventure the best possible one. We hope that anyone who enjoys "the Outdoor Life" will find much to interest them both in our shop and on our site. We have built our reputation on our great brand ranges and the experienced and qualified staff that we employ. All of the staff are outdoors' people and have as much interest in adventure as our customers do.

I went in looking for shoes for the…
I went in looking for shoes for the Camino and I was met with the most helpful sales assistant - I never caught his name but I know he was new to the job and he was brilliant. I ended up ordering online later that day and my delivery was with me literally 12 hours later. Great service.

Excellent customer service and super fast delivery
Excellent customer service. Because I had a voucher I was having difficulty spending it online in conjunction with a credit card. I rang Great Outdoors to check if they had the Garmin Vivioactive 5 in a certain colur in stock, I was told no but they had it online, and then passed onto the Web guy who not only placed the order that Tuesday but assured me it would be with me definitely by Friday. If not I was to ring him. He also took me through the process of using both the voucher and credit card. The watch arrived the next day!! The two people were both very helpful and the product was essentially the same price as everywhere else.
