Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs. Take money without consent when application details have not been signed. Then they send a confirmation email to confirm a cancellation, if you don't confirm to the email after cancelling through the company they continue to take payments. This is one of the worst companies in the UK.

I canceled my gym membership. I thought there would be no problem since I had done the same transactions before, but suddenly they asked me for 15 pounds more. Don't go anywhere that works with this company.

Absolutely disgusting company, praying on people who missed 1 payment, charging weekly is vile, there's a reason they missed a payment. Do you answer the phone? 3 times I've rang been on hold for over an hour each time, pathetic waste of my time. I paid the extortionate charges yet you still cancelled my membership, hope the company goes bust w*****s

Absolutely woeful service
Absolutely woeful service. 2nd time with a gym membership they've tried to keep charging, even when it's been cancelled with confirmation from the gym. To make it worse these greedy little people have a premium number on the correspondence they send you, you they charge you an arm and a leg to call and cancel - you have to Google to find the non premium number.
Any business that decides to use this business need to re-evaluate they're whole existence.

Dire company whose aim is to exploit…
Dire company whose aim is to exploit and abuse gym members with overpriced membership commitments! Signed up for a six week summer membership at Crewe Hall gym, after leaving earlier in the year (following many years of membership) due to a knee injury. As I was completing the six week membership info form at the desk, I explained to staff that I wouldn't be extending it past the six weeks due to the ridiculously high fees they now charged, and for that reason I didn't fill in my bank details. They said that would be absolutely fine, I could just do the six weeks, and yet now they are trying to charge me membership fees as they have got my bank details from online info from my previous membership. I obviously cancelled this payment before it was sent, but Xplor are adamant the only way I could have not been committed to a full membership was to have given written notice one month before it kicked in (so, two weeks into a six week membership) Am sure their staff telling me verbally I would not be committed to a membership is pretty conclusive in that I had zero intention of rejoining. Used to be a fabulous gym with reasonable membership until Xplor took over! Am wondering how many other people signed up for the six week summer offer thinking it was just for six weeks!

£20 Admin fee added when trying to pay my subscription the day after as my DD failed.
My Direct Debit failed, but called the company the next day to make payment in FULL. I was advised that there is now a £20 admin fee on top of the DD payment, as stated in the terms of condition. I can understand a late fee, but a £20 admin fee is excessively high and unreasonable!!!
I would avoid this company, city councils should rethink using this organisation to manage payments for council owned facilities!!!

Helped me sort membership with gym!
Recently I had discussions with Mark about my membership at a really dodgy gym. He helped me through my troubles and we had managed to terminate my contract at the gym altogether. I had tried to terminate my contract with the gym in accordance with Harlands terms and conditions of the membership yet the gym was not accepting of my reasoning (in addition the gym should have provided me student / NHS discount which they also denied me). In this case the gym was at fault here and Mark really helped me out a lot - Thanks!

Great service from Mark.
I needed to cancel my membership at a local golf club and I was sceptical about being able to do it early after reading some of the reviews on here. I contacted customer.relations at harlandsgroup.co.uk and Mark responded who was excellent.

If I could give a zero rating I would
If I could give a zero rating I would! 25 years ago! Yes that is 25 years ago, I joined a gym in Acton. During the 2 week cooling off period, I cooled ... and cancelled the membership, by phone. I then moved house. Three years later and 1 week before I gave birth to my son (who is now 23) I was contacted by a debt collector to tell me that Harlands were chasing me! You can imagine it was the last thing on my mind. 7 years later, I found out i had a CCJ. The CCJ was set aside and a ridiculous amount of money later to pay for a gym membership i never used was paid so that Harland would remove the charge they put on my house .... Its still there! Will they assist in getting it removed ... NO. I can put in a complaint and they will come back to me within 48 hours ... ! Im lost! How the heck do these people look themselves in the mirror!

Appalling company
Appalling company, I was not able to afford my subscription at the time due to struggling with my mental health, having to take time of work, so missed 1 payment called them up 2 weeks after it was due, to make my subscription for 21.99, to be told due to the payment being overdue by 2 weeks I now owe 75+ pounds with their extra fees, extortionate, avoid this company at all cost!!!! The guy I spoke to over the phone did not care about my situation telling me its was in the terms and condition, I was not avoiding the payment I was 2 weeks overdue due to not working, trying to pay the outstanding balance. And they did not care, Disgraceful.

Apparently the gym group are “no contract” and so I hadn’t been going to the gym and had frozen the membership just incase I was going to go back they’d still attempted to take the money from my account, to my surprise I wake up to an email from harlands where I have absolutely no clue whatsoever who they are and they’re saying they’re going to charge me an extra £20 for not paying my membership? I feel a bit scammed as to why I should fork out now £40 because I had frozen my membership and now I have a debt collection agency adding their own fees to a supposedly non contract gym membership. Is this your way of making money from people by adding stupid charges of £20 onto things?

Gym closed
My gym Énergie Fitness in Southend closed at the end of June
I received an email from them advising to cancel the direct debit which I did.
I am now being sent emails demanding payment from Harlands
I replied after the first demand explaining that Énergie Fitness had closed and told me to cancel. Got a reply from Matthew saying they were only the collectors and I should contact Énergie Fitness!!! Hello they’re CLOSED
Today I got another email trying to charge me £20. Ridiculous company
I am not paying a gym membership for a gym that no longer exists

Awful customer service, very unhelpful. Could not discuss T&Cs with me. Rude and difficult. Would avoid giving the company any business.
