Harlees fish n chips

Harlees fish n chips, Swanage. Today 2 pm. Food nice enough. Plenty of space. Can sit in.
However. No service. Rude staff. No conversation. Asked for glass for coke they looked at us and walked away. Asked again. We don’t have glasses. Can I have a cup then . Handed over cardboard cup with a grunt. Horrid smalluseless wooden cutlery extremely hard to use. Went up again to ask for ketchup. “Well you have to pay for that”. Wow. Ok. Will not be visiting again for sure. Awful attitudes.

Chef's Hair Found in Food!!!

I have had previous bad experiences with this fish and chip shop and so haven't been for a year or so. I was short of time so decided to risk it again and I wish I hadn't!

My burger had a course black hair running through it. It's not mine as I have fine red hair. The man cooking the burger did have black hair which was lose and he kept flicking and moving out of his eyes.

I also lost hope in things going well when the young lady who served me with a long ponytail and a filthy hoody, told the cook, "Don't worry, just put the two together, no one ever notices". I have no idea what she was referring to, but it suggested cutting corners...

The fish and chip shop was generally dirty and untidy. Tuesday 23rd September Evening.

Absolutely shocking!

Absolutely shocking!
We ordered a chicken burger meal, burger meal and cod kids meal for when they opened. Chicken burger was average, burger was dry with a pinch of lettuce, not the salad as described on their website. The kids meal cod was shocking, there were 3 cod bite which were basically just batter, my son refused to eat them! The side of curry sauce tasted like the powder you’d buy from the shop to make it at home, and the chips smelt so greasy but again so very dry! It came to just under £30 and quite honestly the standard of food was horrendous!

£24.00 for fish and chips for two.

£24.00 for fish and chips for two.
Served in a plastic basket and given the cheapest wooden knife and fork money could buy.
Making eating very awkward.
Fish was good, chips seemed like they had been cooking for a while.

I just think for that money in a so called restaurant proper knife and forks could be provided.

Harlees Westbury

This was the second online order for delivery of a family supper when visiting relatives. The local folks thought our first order back in November was probably a blip, but the repeat of an almost identical experience means that for us, never again!

We had a mixture of meals including cod, haddock, plaice, scampi, battered sausage and portions of chips, together with portions of tartar sauce. The chips were not great, but just about OK. The various fish and sausage however all had soggy, greasy batter and was not pleasant to eat. On both this and the previous order, the tartar sauce wasn’t delivered (total value £3).

We’re in our 60s and being typical Brits, have sampled enough fish and chips in our lifetime to be able to make a comparison and give a reasonably informed opinion. This was poor and not something we want to repeat. It's also not cheap, which amplifies the feeling of having been ripped off in more ways than one!

Harlees Westbury

Really disappointing! Definitely not "beautifully golden chips" as advertised, pale and soft, fish was pale and soggy too. Starting to hear lots of negative things about the shop. Won't be buying again.

Harlees in Andover,

I went to Harlees in Andover, I’d heard they were supposed to be good, it wasn’t. It was overpriced for small portions. First and last time I’ll be going there

Wow! Westbury Harlees.

We went to the Westbury branch.
It was divine. We are seniors so have the special senior meal that comes with a cup of tea and peas and tartare sauce. Cooked to perfection, served with care and professionalism. Gave the tip in cash as we prefer that.

Shortage of salt & vinegar

Correct me if I’m wrong. In most cases “may I have extra salt and vinegar please” means I would like it not none at all.

The above wouldn’t be so bad but when you are paying for the smallest pot of curry sauce, a teaspoon of “home made” tartar sauce and ends only chips it just adds insult to injury.

Being disabled I wanted to place an order but couldn’t get the website to work so rang them and guess what they don’t take orders over the phone! There is a 45 minutes wait if you turn up in person but they have removed all the seats from the store so due to my disability I’m stumped . In the end my wife and I cooked at home!

Open - but not for you.

Big sign saying open - wait to be served to be told they are only doing click and collect - yet signs say they are taking orders with contactless only Staff could use some customer service training. Very disappointed from a big chain. They need to take a leaf from the smaller operators.
