HealingTheSpine is an education and coaching platform created by The Resilient Practitioner, founded by physical therapist Dr. Matthew Traver, DPT. Our mission is to help people better understand and overcome chronic low back pain through a modern, whole-person approach. Many people with persistent back pain are told their spine is “damaged” or that pain is simply something they must learn to live with. Research and clinical experience suggest that most long-term back pain is influenced by many factors — including movement habits, stress, nervous system sensitivity, and lifestyle. HealingTheSpine focuses on helping people reconnect with their body and rebuild confidence in movement through education, gentle movement, breathing, and nervous system regulation. Our goal is simple: to help people feel safe, strong, and capable in their body again.

More Progress in One Year Than the Previous Decade

I worked with Matt for close to six months, and I can honestly say he made a profound impact on my healing journey.

My case was complicated. I had been dealing with chronic illness for years, with multiple joints involved, and I had already seen many physical therapists over time. What stood out immediately about Matt was not just his skill and knowledge, but how deeply he listened. He had a rare ability to meet me where I was, understand what I was going through, and tailor his approach in a way that felt both personal and effective.

The exercises he gave me were incredibly helpful, but what made the biggest difference was his overall approach. Matt doesn’t just look at the body in isolation. He understands the connection between body, mind, and overall well-being, and I truly believe that perspective is part of what makes him such an exceptional practitioner.

Since working with him, I’ve made more progress in the last year than I had in the previous decade. I have a lot to be grateful to Matt for, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a physical therapist who is not only highly skilled, but also genuinely present, thoughtful, and invested in the whole person.

Matt has been great!

Matt has been great, he combines all his knowledge and experience to provide a unique perspective for a person with complex issues. He focuses on the whole body and mind and truly listens. He has been more than a PT, more like a life coach. Lower back pain is difficult with no easy solutions and he keeps trying to get the best result he can.

Amazing!

One word to describe Matt! AMAZING! This guys has such incredible PT knowledge PT along with wellness of the body. He takes the time to listen to what your issues are and within a few minutes he has a plan ready to get you back on track to feel better and get you back to your everyday activities with life. Matt takes the time to explain what your doing and why it applies to your health and well being. He makes sure your comfortable with what your doing and what the plan is. He takes the time to follow up within a few days to make sure the plan is working just in case adjustments need to be made, which in my case has never had to happen since he is usually spot on with his diagnosis and plan of attack.
If you’re looking to get relief, recovery and back to your everyday activities pain free and feeling good, Matt is the PT you want!

Dr. Traver….the last PT you’ll ever need to see

Dr. Traver is an individual that was meant to be a PT. He isn’t pleased until you’re healed and without pain. I went to see him over the years to get help with several issues and each time he was able to diagnose the problem and provide a solution.

The most memorable for me was when I went to see him after having an issue with my knee. I explained where the pain was and what activities would cause pain. Before any treatment he had me walk down a flight of steps as he stood at the bottom. Just by looking at me walk down the steps he was able to pinpoint what was wrong.

I wouldn’t go see any other PT, he really is the best in my opinion.

Dr. Traver is a godsend 🙏

Let me start with some context.

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania is called the Diamond City. So when I say Dr. Matthew Traver is a diamond in the rough up here in Northeastern PA. And I mean that.

Matt has this rare gift of taking everything he knows (the pedigree, the science, the clinical depth) and delivering it in a way that actually lands. It’s hard to not be enamored by his charismatic and earnest demeanor as he delivers clear, visual language that makes you feel like you finally understand your own body.

For someone like me, dealing with lower back issues that go back to Division I college wrestling, that clarity matters.
But what sets Matt apart isn’t just competence. It’s his character.
He checks in when he doesn’t have to. He gives everything during a session and then some. And in my experience, he’s also found a way to weave a faith-based lens into his approach that genuinely connected with me. Not preachy. Not forced. Just a meaningful framework for how to take care of yourself. That hit different. I guess that’s why I view my time with Matt as sacred.

He also treats my mother (who is in her late sixties but looks younger than that!) and I haven’t heard her complain once since she started seeing him. And I know he still checks up on her because she shows me his text messages.

So whether you’re seeing Matt across a screen or in person, just know that you’re speaking to someone capable of shepherding you toward feel like your best self. And there’s really no better feeling than that.

This Really Works 👍

I could barely get out of a chair when I first reached out to Matt and learned about his program. Within a couple days, my pain had reduced and I was much more mobile. After a few weeks my pain was gone and I was fully mobile again. I still do some of the exercises and stretches that I learned from his program as part of my gym routine and my back pain has not come back after 6-7 months.

Lifesaver for lower back recovery

Matt’s advice was a lifesaver when I had a lower back injury earlier this year from Olympic lifting. He helped me understand what was going on, gave me a clear plan to work with, and kept me on the right timeline throughout the recovery process. He also helped me understand that recovering from a back injury is a game of consistency with rehab which made a huge difference in my mindset.
If you’re dealing with lower back issues, I recommend Matt’s services!
