Disastrous corporate and communication issues stranded me and made me lose my job

I was a President's Circle member of the Hertz Gold program, the highest tier possible that I got from renting every week for three years. And this means nothing to this corporate monster.

Usually, I rent for a week and renew weekly to the maximum two months and then reserve a new vehicle when I need to return. Besides the algorithmic pricing and unreasonable rates I often get, various issues with the app and website, and AI voice I have to deal with that never understands my last name so I have to repeatedly ask for a live agent, a new issue threatened to end my relationship with Hertz permanently. I tried to renew through the app and got an error, then called the support line, shoved my way past the robot and was told that my account was placed under a 'do not rent' status where I was unable to renew the car until I called a different phone number to pay an unpaid debt.

I called the other number and they told me that I needed to pay $455.63 in full. I was given no warning or payment plan options, they just rented to me normally and I paid them thousands of dollars. I didn't have enough to pay the debt, so I had no way to renew. I needed the car for work, so I told multiple people who called me and replied to an email, but in spite of each person acting apologetic, the situation being explained multiple times to multiple people meant nothing, they sent someone to tow the car away.

Now, I'm unable to work, my rent is late, and I'm looking into work from home options. Hertz kept trying to charge me an insane daily rate of $34-50 (whatever they feel like every day), even after they took the car back. I spoke with a few more customer service people and they told me I needed to overnight or return the keys in person or else I'll be charged $200. They can't even send someone to pick the keys up from me.

A reasonable company would have told me about an unpaid debt and given me options to pay it before disabling my account. They also would have understood that they created this situation and would have tried to rectify it and work with me. They would not have made me repeat myself to multiple employees what the situation was, and they definitely wouldn't strand me by towing the car away in spite of everything they should have already known. I had thousands of points and it's all gone. I hate them.

Mewa took good care of me but Hertz…

Mewa took good care of me but Hertz needs to decide if this office is worth keeping. I’ve been coming here for a year and rarely does it go smoothly.

I rarely have issues because I do everything online but lots of rookies rent here. There is often too few people to manage the lines or to few cars to manage demand. Figure it out. It’s NOT a people problem.
