Great experience renting a car
I booked a car through the reservations page to get to a family wedding in San Diego. I specifically selected the economy option because I wanted to save on gas. The check-in process at the airport was smooth. I used the kiosk, and it only took a few minutes to grab the keys. The car was clean and ready to go, which I appreciated. I had a minor issue with the GPS being a bit outdated, but the staff at the counter helped me update it within minutes. It made navigating easier that weekend. Returning the car was just as easy, and I was in and out in no time. Overall, I felt like I got good value and convenience from my rental, and I would use their service again for future trips.
Smooth rental process
I recently booked a car through Hertz for a weekend trip. I went to the ‘Rental Cars’ section and selected a compact car suitable for city driving. The booking form was easy to fill out, and I appreciated the option to add insurance right on the page. I opted for the Collision Damage Waiver since I was unsure about street parking in the city.
When I arrived to pick up the car, I walked to the rental counter, and a friendly agent helped me within minutes. They checked my reservation and quickly mentioned that I could choose any car from the compact section. That flexibility was nice, so I picked a neat little sedan.
Returning the car was straightforward. I just parked it in the designated return area and handed in the keys to an attendant. They checked the car for any issues but found everything in order. Overall, this was one of the easiest car rental experiences I’ve had. Minor hiccup: the parking lot was a bit crowded, but that’s understandable for a busy weekend.
Dear Hertz Customer Relations,
Dear Hertz Customer Relations,
I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding my recent experience attempting to reserve a PCO rental vehicle through Hertz.
On your website, I made a reservation for a PCO vehicle for eight weeks, with collection scheduled for 28 July from your Marble Arch branch. The reservation appeared to be confirmed immediately, and I entered my credit card details for payment.
However, several hours later I still had not received any confirmation email. I checked both my inbox and spam folder, but nothing had been received. When I returned to the website, the reservation confirmation had disappeared, leaving me with no reservation number or proof that my booking had been processed.
I then attempted to contact Hertz for assistance.
The first telephone number I found online, 020 7026 0077, was either incorrect or unavailable, and I was unable to get through.
I then called another Hertz customer service number, 020 7723 5826. The representative informed me that this department only deals with standard vehicle rentals, not PCO rentals, and provided me with a different number for the PCO team.
Unfortunately, the number I was given, 0843 309 3133, was also unavailable. I attempted to call it five separate times and each time received the same message that the number was unavailable.
This experience has been extremely frustrating and raises several serious concerns:
My reservation appears to have disappeared without explanation.
I have not received any booking confirmation despite making the reservation online.
I am concerned about the payment made using my credit card and whether it has been processed.
It was unnecessarily difficult to find the correct contact details for the PCO department.
The telephone numbers available online are either incorrect or unavailable, making it impossible to obtain assistance.
I also raised my concerns regarding the confusing contact information during my telephone conversation, but unfortunately it did not appear that my feedback was taken seriously.
I believe Hertz should review its website and customer support process. Customers should be able to make a reservation with confidence, receive immediate confirmation, and easily find the correct contact details when assistance is required. My experience fell well below the standard I expected from an international company such as Hertz.
I would appreciate your urgent response addressing the following:
What happened to my reservation?
Has my payment been processed or authorised?
Why did I never receive a confirmation email?
Why are the contact details for PCO rentals so difficult to find, and why are the published numbers unavailable?
I look forward to your prompt response and a satisfactory resolution.
Yours faithfully,
Cenk Arkin
I can’t believe Hertz is charging me…
I’ve been a loyal Hertz customer with Gold Member Signature Presidential status, and this experience has me reconsidering that loyalty. While driving on the interstate over the Bonnet Carré Spillway in Louisiana, I got a flat tire — a road hazard, not something caused by any negligence on my part. I pulled over safely, changed the tire myself, and put on the spare, just as any responsible driver would.
Despite my status and despite this being an unavoidable road hazard, Hertz still hit me with a $98 charge. A basic flat tire repair does not cost anywhere close to that, and there was no clear explanation of what the fee actually covered. It feels like customers are being charged for things completely outside their control, regardless of loyalty tier.
I expected better from a company I’ve stuck with for the “Presidential” level of service. This has left a bad taste, and I’ll be thinking twice before renting from Hertz again.
Renters beware - Hidden Recurring Charges
Renters beware - Hertz 247 automatically enrol you in a subscription membership that automatically collects £5 from your bank card each year. It's not direct debit so you can't just cancel it that way. Very underhand and sneaky as it is almost impossible to cancel and is set at a low enough value that you hopefully don't notice it.
There is no need for this charge and the membership does not give you any benefits therefore is little more than a sneaky scam to get money from you for years after your rental has finished. Hertz247 supposedly notify of this fee each year via email however were unable to provide proof that they had sent the email (just so I could check if it had gone in my junk). They also don't respond to emails therefore all records of cancellation are only stored on their system - meaning you won't have proof of cancellation.
There is no need whatsoever for this charge (other than to scam money from customers) and can't understand why Hertz 247 don't just get rid of it as it is ruining the reputation of both Hertz247 and Hertz generally. At time of writing Hertz 247 have a Trustpilot score of 1.2, which is basically zero as you cannot give a score less than 1.
(I intent to replicate this review on Hertz as it appears that Hertz are trying to endorse this practice by setting up the sub-company Hertz 247 so that they are not impacted by the bad reviews).

Trying to Scam me into paying for a totaled car, that was not damaged in my possession, sent me photos of a severely damaged car, 11 days later, refuses to send me any other info, only stating I have to pay for daily impound/rental fees, fees, lying stating I did not have collision damage coverage, VIR #93567, rental agreement 653220621,
Incompetent customer service
Incompetent customer service, no bond refund, unnecessary charges and deception. I'm been patient,_ charges extra cost, gave shit vehicle no replacement n with hodin my funds, looked it with commissioner office
Highly Dissatisfied Loyal Customer
I’m a President’s Circle member — have been renting cars weekly for months and have run into nothing but problems. Every time I go in, the guys at the counter say I don’t have status with the company. I show them on my app and in my profile that I do and they say it doesn’t reflect in their system. I just tried to redeem my loyalty points to book a car and last second, it gives me an error and now all my points are gone and it won’t let me rebook with the rewards I’ve earned. It told me to call to book and I’ve been on hold for 15 minutes. No end in sight. I’ve been given filthy cars, cars that have smelled like cigarette smoke, cars on empty. If you book with a 10% discount, it shows rentals at one rate. If you book with a 20% discount, the cars show up at a 20% markup per day. Pretty sure that’s considered price gouging, which is illegal. Despicable greedy company.
1 Star
1 Star — Beware of Unexpected Add-On Charges and Document the Vehicle Carefully
My experience with Hertz was extremely disappointing and costly. I strongly recommend choosing another rental company and reviewing the many similar consumer complaints posted online before renting from Hertz.
My online rental agreement showed a total cost of approximately $495, including taxes. The only additional option I knowingly authorized was for Hertz to refill the gas tank when I returned the vehicle.
However, Hertz treated my verbal agreement for the gas service as approval for numerous other optional charges that I did not knowingly request or agree to. Those charges added approximately $795 to the rental, bringing the total amount charged to my American Express card to $1,290.
I disputed the additional charges with American Express and provided documentation supporting my position. When I asked American Express to provide copies of all receipts or agreements that supposedly contained my signature authorizing these charges, I was told that no signed receipts were available. Nevertheless, American Express declined to refund the disputed amount and advised me that my remaining option was to pursue legal action.
After consulting with my attorney, I was advised that a lawsuit could cost between $5,000 and $8,000, with little likelihood of recovering the disputed amount. As a practical matter, an individual consumer cannot afford to fight a large corporation over a charge of this size. The big company wins—not because the customer is necessarily wrong, but because the cost of challenging it is prohibitive.
What makes this even more troubling is that Hertz had been recommended through organizations such as AARP and AAA, which gave me a false sense of confidence when making the reservation.
My advice is simple: Do not rely solely on the online quoted price. Do not sign or verbally agree to anything at the rental counter until every charge and optional service has been individually explained and either accepted or declined in writing. Take photographs of every page and demand a printed final agreement before leaving.
Just as importantly, take detailed, time-stamped photographs and video of the entire vehicle when you pick it up and again when you return it. Photograph every side of the car, the wheels, windshield, windows, roof, bumpers, interior, fuel gauge, and mileage. Hertz and other rental companies may use automated or AI-assisted inspection systems that identify dents, scratches, broken glass, or other possible damage. Without your own time-stamped documentation, preexisting damage could potentially be attributed to your rental period.
Do not assume that a quick walkaround is enough. Document the vehicle thoroughly before driving away, and report every visible defect in writing.
This review may be my only meaningful recourse. Based on my experience, I will never rent from Hertz again, and I strongly encourage other consumers to protect themselves and find another rental company.
The staff attention to detail
The staff attention to detail, especially when I got sick and was somewhat distracted . The nice Jamaican lady who helped me sort out my charges when I returned the car. As I explained about my having returned a lost cell phone left in the rental car. She was so helpful and polite.
I have been a Hertz Gold Member because…
I have been a Hertz Gold Member because I believed the company valued customer service and loyalty. Unfortunately, my experience at the Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) location on July 4, 2026 completely changed that.
I simply asked the Instant Return representative to confirm my final bill because my reservation was prepaid through Priceline and my vehicle upgrade was charged separately by Hertz. Instead of answering a reasonable question, I was met with a rude, condescending attitude and repeatedly told, “Obviously, it’s on your ticket.”
When I questioned why she couldn’t help me, she called another employee over to stand beside her, making me feel as though I was being treated like a threat rather than a paying customer. To make matters worse, she intentionally checked in vehicles that arrived after mine while telling me she would “get with me in a minute.”
I immediately reported the incident to the manager on duty, who showed little concern and offered no meaningful response. Weeks later, I still have not been contacted by Hertz.
This wasn’t just poor customer service—it was disrespectful, humiliating, and completely unacceptable. As a loyal Gold Member, I expected professionalism and accountability. Instead, I was left questioning whether Hertz truly values its customers.
Unless Hertz addresses this situation, I’ll seriously reconsider taking my business elsewhere.
Beware of additional charges
Check your invoice after your rental for additional charges
When I made my reservation for a Hertz Car rental at Chicago O’Hare airport, I got a reservation confirmation email stating that the cost was going to be @ $404. After turning in the vehicle after the rental, the charge was @ $486. They had added some additional toll charges. I had to make numerous calls in order to get reimbursed the difference. They do not make it easy. I suspect they are doing this on purpose to make additional revenue in case you don’t check your invoice and/or just give up during the dispute process because it is taking too long. A couple of months ago they put on my invoice a fuel charge. It was then up to me to send in a receipt showing that I HAD filled up the car before turning it in. Again, more work for me to dispute charges that Hertz is adding to a bill after a rental. I feel like they are stealing from me. On the bright side, I did not have any issues with the vehicle that I rented. Renter beware of additional charges!

We rented a car for 6 days from hertz Stanstead Airport 29th May til6 June 2026
On return they indicated a cut on a tyre near the rim, which I was unaware of. I already had my own insurance which covered hire cars. This insurance covered me for the damage to the tyre
I lodged a claim with my insurance coy, who requested more info from Hertz
Hertz immediately took £250 but have not replied to ANY communication about the claim from my insurance coy
I will NEVER USE HERTZ again

There was no line in the downtown Manhattan location, I was in and out in 5 mins.
Fraudulent Billing
Billed us $600 for non-existent damage after check-in agent already checked car and found none. Took over an hour with customer service just to file but not resolve the complaint. Never received an apology or correction. Hertz's AI image processing system is fraudulent. Claimed damage looked like a shadow from the sun. The stress is not worth using Hertz any longer.
Easy check in and easy to return
Easy check in and easy to return, large selection of cars, great staff (Ruben Reyes goes above and beyond , helpful and personable), good deals on last minute rentals.
Quick and easy
Wasting of your money and time
We rented a Tesla Model Y from this Hertz location because it was the only branch that had one available for our travel dates.
Unfortunately, after driving only about 10 minutes, we realized something was seriously wrong with the vehicle. The steering wheel was heavily worn and slippery, the rear brakes made a constant metallic scraping noise even while coasting, braking felt abnormal with almost no regenerative braking, the battery was draining much faster than expected, and even the key card frequently failed to unlock the car on the first try. The charging cable provided was also incomplete for Tesla charging.
We immediately contacted Hertz, and after being sent to Pearson Airport, waiting almost two hours, being offered a downgrade to a Model 3 (which we declined), and then driving all the way back to Downtown through heavy traffic, we finally received another Model Y. The entire exchange took around three hours.
Unfortunately, the replacement vehicle wasn’t much better.
The driver’s area had a terrible odor from the previous renter. We ended up cleaning the steering wheel, seat, armrest, and door panel ourselves with Lysol wipes, which turned dark yellow afterwards. The cabin air filter clearly needed replacement because the car smelled awful whenever Recirculation Mode was used or after turning off the A/C during rainy weather.
The windshield wipers were completely worn out and barely usable in the rain, which is a direct safety concern. The floor mats had been poorly cleaned, the pedestrian warning speaker didn’t work (no reverse sound or locking chirp), the car constantly displayed “Dashcam unavailable. Check USB drive,” and on the last day of our rental Park Assist, cameras, and eventually the data connection all stopped working.
I understand that replacement vehicles sometimes need to be prepared quickly, but these problems point to a lack of basic inspection and maintenance. Customers paying premium prices should reasonably expect clean, properly maintained, and safe vehicles.
To make matters worse, after returning the vehicle I received an email claiming the car had been returned with damage. Fortunately, I had taken detailed photos before leaving the parking lot, clearly showing every existing scratch and dent—including reflections of the location manager while those damages were already visible. That made the claim especially disappointing.
This experience cost us several hours of our vacation and left us with very little confidence in Hertz’s vehicle preparation and quality control.
Sadly, after this experience, I don’t plan on renting from Hertz again.
Do not buy from hertz worst rental…
Do not buy from hertz worst rental company ever created. Terrible communication, customer service , management team is terrible on all departments. My car got picked up which I have no problem with but the issue is my personal belongings was in my car and nobody has a clue where my belongings are and it’s been 3 weeks. Don’t ever buy from here terrible service and they make you buy their insurance making it over 400 a week when clearly you got insurance already but they make you get theirs. I still haven’t got my belongings and it’s been 3 weeks !! Don’t buy here terrible who doesn’t put customers first , that should be your first priority!!!!
