Hertz has been pretty great, but the speed of getting cars is just annoyingly slow. I have rented cars twice in the last month, one at the IAD airport where it took me almost an hour to get a car. An... See more

I had a flat tire the 2nd day of rental. There were no spares which I have found is standard. I called Hertz and was told it would have to be towed to the service center close to the airport. We were an hour and 15 minutes away from the airport and the cost was 350.00. We purchased the Insurance supplement and was also charged a damage waiver for 299.00. The 350 is ridiculous. I got the address and information from the tech on line and told her I would use AAA. She said that's fine, a car will be waiting for you. A shuttle will be available at the service center. Service center people were great and I got a shuttle right away. But when I got to the Hertz counter they didn't know who I was, there was no report and I had to call them again to get a ticket number. I got out of line, called and got the ticket number. The girl trying to help me was new and didn't have rights so I had to wait for her to get help from one of the other two reps. And after one of their lines were empty she got help. Not next but when he finally had no customers in his line. When we finally got started I was told they had to talk to the person that rented the car. I reminded them I was an additional paid driver but they tried to insist my husband had to be there in person. He was an hour and 15 minutes away without a car. I told them they have his number and can call him. They finally relented without calling. The young girl was frustrated and did try to help but of course it took forever before it was completed and I finally got my car. It hadn't been cleaned but by that point I didn't care. I just wanted out of there. So day one of vacation was shot as in total it took 8 hours to make the call, get picked up by AAA, shuttled to the airport and dealing with all of the hassle then returning to our vacation spot.
Hertz Dublin & Booing.com
Hertz Dublin & Booing.com – unauthorised money taken - looking for advice
I paid Booking.com in full for my car hire, but I have since had several unexpected payments taken from my bank by Hertz Dublin.
I have contacted both Booking.com and Hertz several times, but I have not received an explanation or refund.
I am very worried that further money may be taken from my account, especially as no one seems to be interested in helping
Has anyone had a similar experience with Hertz who took the payment a week after they had been paid in full.
I would really appreciate any advice on what I should do next.
Thank you.

Hidden costs not apparent till collection. Charged double cross boarder fees. Car broke down 2 times. At one point they towed my car away and left me with no vehicle for half a day while on holiday

Terrible customer service do not use Hertz
I’ve rented a car at Brussels Airport and was charged €3000 for damages.
Hertz did not send me my rental agreement or any damaged documents, and I cannot make an insurance claim because of it.
I have emailed them hundreds of times and tried to call the customer service but to no avail service is terrible. I do not recommend Hertz!

We booked and paid for a rental for 6…
We booked and paid for a rental for 6 days. Our plane was 1.5 hours late and when we got to the counter (Regina airport), the person working couldn’t even put down the soup she was slurping to talk to us, and proceeded to tell us that we were past the two hour hold time, so they gave our rental to someone else. Now, I would understand if it was just reserved, but it was reserved and paid for for 6 days. This, in my opinion, is ‘double dipping’, as that vehicle could have sat there for six days, as it was already paid for but instead they took my money and someone else’s for the same vehicle. Poor business practices.
they always treat me great
Reserved a car at the Santa Rosa…
Reserved a car at the Santa Rosa Airport 2 months prior to my trip. Got to the airport and there was a long line. No clean cars, people waiting for over 2 hours to get a car. Ended up having to rent from another vendor at a cost of well over double. Desk person was overwhelmed. Why reserve cars if they are not available when you show up???
Never again!
I had a bad experience with Hertz last summer when they claimed I had damaged my rental car even though I had photo proof that the damage was pre-existing. We had a lot of back and forth and it wasn’t until I shared the photos publicly on social media that they acquiesced and refunded me my deposit.
Because they have a good reputation I put that experience down to a blip in service and rented with them again this summer. The car was returned and they confirmed everything was OK and that my deposit would be returned.
I waited 2 weeks before following it up as I know it can sometimes take up to 10 days for it to show back on my card. I emailed. No reply, emailed again. No reply, emailed again, no reply…. This went on for 2 weeks. No reply. This had quite significant consequences for me as their hold on my card meant I didn’t have sufficient funds to collect my next hire car which left me stranded at the airport with 2 young kids.
100% fail rate from Hertz. I won’t be giving them a third chance.
They charge loyal customers more than they charge general public
Beware, when booking a car from Hertz in Ireland. (This may apply to other countries as well, I haven't checked.) I have been a Hertz gold member for many years. Every time I rent a car in Ireland, the rate offered to the general public has been lower than the rate I am offered when I log in as a Hertz Gold member.
The service at the location I regularly use is excellent and the staff are wonderful. It's just really annoying to have a company deliberately overcharge loyal customers like this.
Hertz Gatwick are the worst car rental…
Hertz Gatwick are the worst car rental company as they let you purchase a vehicle online . Consumers thinks they are collecting this vehicle arrive just to be told this vehicle is unavailable but another one can be purchased at a higher price and there is no other option! This company is misleading its consumers and there is no honesty or transparency . The brand has lost its credibility . The staff are no more than used cars sales persons .
We rented a car for nearly two weeks
We rented a car for nearly two weeks. The location did not have what we requested. But the Customer Care contacts made sure we received a proper refund and they were in touch with us promptly and did not make us wait.
The car we rented was excellent
The car we rented was excellent - small model and everything worked well. It drove well and met our needs. The staff was helpful with directions, explanations but allow yourself extra time when picking up the car; there was a line when we got there. The location is right in a busy area so the driving is a little hectic at first - just getting in and out of the below ground parking lot is a challenge. All things considered, it was a good value.
90 min wait no staff hopeless
We arrived a Palma airport to be told there is at least a 90 min wait to pick up a car hopeless it is 1630 on a Sunday they only have x3 members of staff. They know exactly how many bookings they have. Totally useless will never book with them again.
Scammers and con artists
Scammers and con artists. They took €1,271.45 from my deposit for damage to the windshield, which was only a small, almost invisible chip. It could have been repaired with a special resin, not a full windshield replacement, which would have cost €300-600 anyway. Of course, I could have covered the cost of the windshield repair, which would have been proportionate to the damage, not such an astronomical sum. Furthermore, I'd never seen these chips before, so it's very possible I didn't contribute to them. I didn't receive a detailed photo of the windshield before renting the car. It's suspicious. It's possible the chip was there before, but they're trying to pin the blame on me.
Ignorant Agent at counter
My "reserved" car pickup time "10:00AM". Arrived at that exact time in line. A few folks ahead, and by 10:15, my turn at counter... Agent tells me there are no cars, EXCEPT the one I can UPGRADE to for 40 bux extra. UMM NO! After another full hour of waiting (+ me going up to the counter and complaining) I finally get a car. Which ended up being that larger vehicle that they TRIED to have me pay extra for. SO it's obvious they HAD a car to give me earlier, but were NOT doing the right thing. NOT MY FAULT they don't RESERVE the type of car I was paying for..Total ignorance!
I was charged €1,300.20 after a 22-hour…
I was charged €1,300 after a 22-hour rental for an alleged roof dent and €150 in 'smoking' costs at Luxembourg Airport. I disputed both charges. The vehicle's pre-rental report did not contain a clear photograph of the centre of the roof, and the photographs supplied as evidence of the alleged dent did not clearly demonstrate it. I have requested the underlying pre-rental photographs, inspection records and repair documentation. The proof they sent of the suppose dent cannot even be seen in the pictures. I also disputed the smoke charge because the vehicle already had a pungent cigarette smell when collected, and neither my partner nor I smoke. Mind you, I hired two travel seats from them for my one and two year old babies and they accused me of smoking in the car. The matter is currently formally disputed with Hertz, I have yet to receive a response
Hours waiting at Boston airport rental
Spent hours waiting at the Logan airport rental. It’s insane they would understaff it so much they can’t even service it. There was effectively 1.5 people there. All other brands could take people virtually immediately (it’s pretty shocking in local where you can see them all side by side).
I won’t book Hertz again for sure, this is some of the worst customer service I’ve ever seen…
