Excellent customer service

Very pleased with my new Cromford van from Hillside. A couple of minor adjustments were needed and these were done without quibble and promptly such that I barely had time to drink my welcome cup of coffee!

Good support for older van

Have now contacted Hillside several times since purchasing my 2010 Cromford from a dealer, with various different queries! Kelly and Cath have been very helpful, most recently helping me to diagnose a problem with my split charge system by identifying fuses etc. It’s good to know that there is this back-up from a converter even when the product is now 14 years old. No doubt I will be in touch again at some point 😊

High Quality Campervan with EXCELLENT after sales

My Hillside Leisure Birchover Classic Campervan is 22 months old, top quality conversion with everything needed, both for practical & comfort purposes.

I recently noticed one of the table storage brackets was broken & contacted Hillside to order a new one which they happily posted to me, without charge.

This is my second Hillside Leisure Birchover Campervan, the previous one I had for 5 years from new.

I always think the real test of a company is when you have parted with your money & there are then issues & I have found Hillside's 'after sales' excellent, both in speed of response & dealing with this & minor issues with my previous Birchover.

We bought a camper from these people…

We bought a camper from these people around 3/1/2 years ago, they were very helpful and knowledgeable which was a great help as this was are first camper. Cleaning the van today 5/7/24 we noticed a small tear in the pop top roof, upon visiting there site there maintenance person explained how they repair the roofs and provided me with the correct canvas patches free of charge

Nissan NV200 campervan problem

We bought a Nissan NV200 campervan from Hillside in 2017 and are very pleased with it. We have had some great trips in it, and have recently passed 100,000 miles without breakdown.
One of the main reasons for buying this model was it's smaller size and four seats with seatbelts, so we have used it as our only vehicle.
Recently one of the rear seatbelts ceased locking. Because this is a non-standard item, I was unable to find a replacement and eventually returned to Hillside for help. They were able to rapidly source a suitable replacement at a very reasonable price.
As ever, all the people at Hillside have been friendly, helpful and competent. Thank you!

Hillside looked after me and my van…

Hillside looked after me and my van today brilliantly, happy for me to wait on site and look around their stock whilst carrying out the habitational check. Friendly staff as always.
Would recommend their service and sales.

Useless Warranty

I love my campervan however the three year warranty is useless.
I purchased a Hillside Birchover S on 1st September last year and there is a couple of faults on the SCA elevating roof.
Hillside have given this response below which is just disgusting given the price of the van
Hi,

The roof manufacturer will not warrant this claim they are saying it is due to carelessness and it has been on the vehicle for 18 months.

I believe Highbridge have had this vehicle since July 2023 and the damage could of been caused either in their possession or yours as the vehicle is checked for damage and signed off when we hand the vehicles over to dealers, so you would now need to take this up with Highbridge.

Looking at the photo of the hole this is quite normal all the canvas have little holes especially where it is sewn.

I have since received a reply from Hillside asking me to remove my post.
I won't be removing my post as I have a three year warranty from Hillside for the van and the conversion
Hillside have chosen not to honour the warranty in this instance and so I am having to rely instead on the one year warranty I also have with Highbridge.
I consider my post to be accurate and if Hillside keep pressuring me to remove the post I will report them to Trading standards
Campervans cost a lot of money and consumers are entitled to know how companies perform.
I am mortified that Hillside are so rude as to put the blame for faulty goods down to damage caused by others when this is not the case.
3 YEAR WARRANTY WITH HILLSIDE FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASING MY UNREGISTERED CAMPERVAN ON 1 SEPTEMBER 2023. I HAVE ALSO A ONE YEAR WARRANTY FROM HIGHBRIDGE.

We are so glad to hear that you love your Birchover and hope that you have enjoyed many happy adventures.

We're sorry to hear you haven't been happy in this instance. While Cath has attempted to help by contacting SCA, we have looked at our records and it appears that you have purchased your Birchover from Highbridge Caravan Centre. In this instance, your warranty would be with Highbridge as the supplying dealer, not with us.

Your van would have also received several quality assurance checks before leaving us, and presumably further checks when you brought it from Highbridge and when you collected it. As such we can only assume the damage in this instance occurred after collection.

We would appreciate it if you could remove this review as, outlined above, your warranty is not with us and would be with Highbridge who you purchased your Birchover from.

Had our van 2020 plate Birchover now for 2 years. Had 80 nights in the van and workmanship has been brilliant. No issues/ breaks. Would thoroughly recommend

Rude and Condescending Staff

So excited to visit the caravan and motorhome show to hopefully see the Hillside prototype id Buzz campervan only to be told that the project had been shelved. The bullish salesman proceeded to berate me about how electric vehicles are useless as campers because they don’t have enough range (around 200 for an id Buzz). I tried to give him my experience of driving an electric car for 6 years and how charging had improved exponentially. I was just talked over until I decided to leave, only to hear them laughing at me as I left. I don’t understand why this is ok. Pretty upset.

Excellent service from start to finish

Excellent service from start to finish. Hillside campervans are second to none and far more affordable than many others on the market. The pre and post sales team were excellent, extremely good at what they do. I wouldn’t buy from anywhere else.

Pre sales service as indicator of post sales support.

Liked the design and build quality of the vans I saw at the motorhome show. Tried phoning the company a few times now to see what new vans are available. Each time the salesman says he’ll check stock and get back to me. He hasn’t. As pre sales service is so bad it doesn’t bode well for possible post sales service.

Warning regarding Hillside practices and deposits.

Warning regarding Hillside practices.

Taken a little while to get round to placing as I was pretty furious about how they were and needed time to calm.

In Sept 2021 I ordered a 4motion highline based camper from Hillside with hightop, leather seats etc. It took some time to get some information straight due too poor customer service information originally. Eventually I ordered a pretty top spec van and placed £6000 deposit. My partner though had had what we thought was good conversion from them before purchased through ES Hartleys.

I needed to chase a number of times to get a delivery update … they never came automatically. The last update came in Dec 2022 saying VW build expected something like between week 10 and 16 of 2023.

Finally after nearly 18 months, due to delays from VW (which is not Hillsides fault) for the base vehicle Hillside suddenly gave three options ..

1. Pay an extra 13k with no guarantees of delivery dates (partly understandable … though looking at current VWs this is not even dropping the Hillside price slightly to meet partway on my cost increase and Hillside reduction in profit)

2. Receive the 6k back (with no offer of any interest that they will have had for having it in their account for 17 months).

3. Buy a stock vehicle for todays walk in price (no offer of even a slight discount for the fact that we had a vehicle on order from them for a year and a half).

This is the first time they have given an option of withdrawing without losing a deposit.

They also failed to note that we only had 2 weeks to let them no or buy default we are tied in to either paying an additional 13k or losing the deposit. Fortunately I knew that there was a clause buried in the Ts&Cs. Strangely there was a delay in them responding to a query (about 4motions they had in stock) as they were away at the NEC leaving (funnily selling some 4motion stock) leaving only a couple of days to decide.

Given that this is the second new van that between myself and my partner would have had from hillside, you would have thought they would have been a bit more friendly and tried to keep our custom by at least offering to do some deal even on the forecourt one … as we would have been likely to order in future. If they had even offered a £1000 reduction on the forecourt price (off 70 odd) that would have been something.

You need to note that in their Ts and Cs that they can when delivering say they need an extra amount for any supplier prices. They are under no obligation to warn until the last moment.

Also Hillside are happy sitting on money for a long time with no get out until they deem it appropriate. In future I would query this as the deposit seems to guarantee nothing.

I would observe that one of the sales team seems to at least show some contrition and understanding of customers, however the head of sales (I suppose they may have left as it is now a few months on but I think Thomas is one of the owners) seems to be so keen on profit chasing that he seems to consider (once an order is placed) a customer lucky to receive any ongoing attention from Hillside.

Definitely wouldn’t recommend. It’s clear they were only interested in maxing immediate profit. Until they also change the current head of sales, its clear that they will also never be interested in decent customer facing relations after an order is taken. I posted a review before saying about how difficult it was getting straight answers when originally trying to order.

I do feel sad about this as the vans themselves are well built and feel good quality. I can't go through this again though with they way the sales team is.

Perfect Camper Van, Service and People.

Put our 2 year old Birchover S in for its habitation service today. As with everything relating to Hillside Leisure, it was well handled, professional and friendly.

We bought our camper van new as we moved into retirement in the middle of the COVID epidemic and it is our first camper van, having had numerous caravans and also camped over many years.

We cannot emphasise just how good Hillside Leisure are to work with. Every aspect of the purchase procedure (in a difficult period) and service arrangements are top notch.

Special thanks go to Cath, for whom nothing is too much trouble.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Hillside Leisure to anyone thinking of buying a camper van.

Terrible after sales service

Great design and generally good build. Terrible after sales service.
It has taken two and a half years and A LOT of chasing to rectify faulty elevating roof.
Not acceptable for a product of this price.
