WARNING: Lost Nearly $8,000 to a Fraudulent Rental Listed on HomeToGo — Buyer Beware!

I strongly encourage anyone considering booking a vacation rental through HomeToGo to read this before trusting this company with their money.

My family and I were planning a Christmas vacation to Maui, Hawaii. We found a beautiful property advertised through HomeToGo and paid $7,985.60 for our reservation.

Unfortunately, we later discovered that the property was not actually available for rent. We contacted the property directly and confirmed that the rental listing was fraudulent.

We had been scammed out of nearly $8,000.

You would think a major vacation rental website would have protections in place for situations like this. What happened next was almost as disappointing as the scam itself.

After contacting HomeToGo, I received an email from their Host & Partner Relations department acknowledging that they had received MULTIPLE reports of suspicious activity involving this same vendor and had removed them from the website.

Their solution? Contact my bank and dispute the charge.

HomeToGo explained that it is simply a marketplace and that customers enter into agreements directly with its vendors. Apparently, the company is happy to advertise these properties and attract customers to its website, but when something goes terribly wrong, it takes the position that the financial responsibility is someone else's.

I find that absolutely unbelievable.

I understand that scams happen, but I also believe companies have a responsibility to protect the customers who trust their platforms. HomeToGo has offered no direct reimbursement and has left me to fight to recover my money through my credit card company.

I am sharing this experience because I don't want another family to go through what we have.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL BOOKING THROUGH HOMETOGO.

Do not assume the properties advertised are legitimate. Do not assume the vendors have been properly verified. And most importantly, do not assume HomeToGo will reimburse you if you become the victim of a fraudulent listing.

I wish someone had warned me before I trusted this website with nearly $8,000 of my family's vacation money.

Hometo go has been my go to source to find a temporary housing spot, due to the California wildfires I've needed to find a comfortable place to go with my family. This company is thoughtful, and differently professional. 5 stars!!

Our experience with HomeToGo has been extremely disappointing. The correspondence has been shocking, with a very limited communication, support and genuine interest in resolving our dispute. We booked a villa that was advertised as a premium property, but it was unacceptable, with an unusable swimming pool, rodents in the BBQ area and numerous maintenance and cleanliness issues. Despite raising our concerns, HomeToGo has shown little interest in addressing the problems or offering a satisfactory resolution. We expected better customer service and support when booking through their platform. We would not recommend HomeToGo based on our experience and the customer service we have received from them.

Easy to book, excellent selection of properties, good prices, very transparent process

This was my first encounter with Home to go. During my search for a short holiday and focussing on Lynmouth your site gave me the cheapest price on this hotel. After pondering it for a few days I decided to go ahead and your site transferred me to AGODA which was slighttly more expensive than your quoted price but still resonable. I thought it was my fault for doing something wrong and tried it several times but always got transferred to AGODA. I went ahead anyway as I was afraid of the price going up. As I still had your original price open on a screen I thought I would use the price promise I had read about AGODA but could not find it anywhere after a couple of days trying to find it I gave up. Your original price quoted was about £98 AGODA's price £102.92 but still the cheapest. It's £108 now.

Wonderful property had the best time extremely beautiful and comfy

Ease of searching and reserving. No hidden fees.

After contacting Hilton and VRBO, Home to go was much easier. The fees where clear and there were no add ons.
We are traveling to Maui where my son lives so I have yet to see how nice and clean this property is.

Very efficient

Easy to book. Our reservation then was cancelled 2 days later by the accommodation and impossible to reach anyone to get a refund. I then went backwards and forward between the customer support team and the reservation department and no one would process a refund in less than 7-10 days. DO NOT BOOK AS ZERO SUPPORT WHEN ACCOMODATION PROVIDER CANCELS

Extremely user friendly

Very easy to locate a nice place to vacation. Pictures and descriptions are very helpful with the process. I wish you had more homes that were not pet friendly due to our allergies, but you still have a great selection. Easy to book our stay, we are looking forward to a great time
