Stinky shower drain - no compensation. Falsely logged issues so they can sell all rooms in busy season. This was the worst hotel experience…
This was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in Costa Rica—and one of the worst in over 20 countries I’ve traveled to across both developed and emerging destinations.
I stayed in Room 30 in Feb 2026, where the shower drain was completely blocked and emitted a strong, foul odor that quickly spread into the room. I called reception to request assistance; after an hour, no one had come. I called again, and despite explaining the issue clearly, the plumber was sent to fix the toilet instead and logged the job as a toilet repair. Meanwhile, the smell from the clogged drain was so unbearable that I had to open the bathroom windows just to tolerate being in the room even though the bathroom door was closed the entire time.
When I asked to change rooms, I was told the hotel was fully booked. The night receptionist was consistently rude and unhelpful throughout this process.
The following day,I had got my travel agent involved and they confirmed there was another room available and informed me the hotel planned to close Room 30 due to the drainage issue with the foul smell as it was not suitable for guests.
Despite this, the owner refused a refund for the night I had to stay and pay $220 for insisting the problem was only a toilet issue that had been fixed—which is inaccurate and misleading.
I strongly advise travelers to avoid staying here.
