Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 264 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers expressed deep frustration regarding unhelpful customer support agents, rude personnel, and completely broken communication channels across multiple platforms. Many passengers frequently encountered severe flight delays, unexpected cancellations, and lost luggage while receiving virtually no effective assistance or empathy from the ground staff when they needed help most. Some reviewers were happy with the friendly cabin crew, punctual flights, and pleasant onboard service during their long journeys. A few other people also felt that certain staff members provided exceptional support, handled complex reservations successfully, and resolved booking problems efficiently when contacted directly.

If you are a vegetarian flying Iberia

I recommend taking your own food on a long distance Iberia flight. We ordered a vegetarian meal but were brought a vegan meal - pretty much the identical meal was served to us for dinner and breakfast. Not only was it like eating cardboard (they didn't even provide salt to make it tastier), there wasn't enough food in the meal to keep me from being hungry and I am a thin, middle-aged woman and don't eat big meals. My 23 year daughter had the same meals and was also very hungry. No food at all was served on the next 2.5 hour flight. Also, the check in in Buenos Aires was very slow as only one person was attending to Economy passengers for most of the time we queued. The bathrooms on the plane were not kept clean. The flight entertainment was good though and the flight attendant was very nice.

They want me to pay extra for their screw-up

Two months ago, I booked a return flight from Valencia to Málaga for 20/22 January. It cost €102. Yesterday, Iberia switched the outward flight from 0715 to 2030, making it useless for me. I tried to cancel that part of the journey (probably going by train instead) but they said I could only cancel the whole trip - then they would sell me the Málaga-Valencia one-way flight for €159. That appears to be what passes for "customer service". Forget it, Iberia. I'm going both ways by train. (That's what happens when you let the notorious British Airways buy your airline)

Frustrating customer service - broken system

My second missing Avios claim is just as frustrating as the first one. It’s been 10 weeks, submitted twice, with conflicting advice and automated rejections without explanation.

I’ve been told the case is “reopened”, yet there’s no way to track it and follow-ups receive no clear response. The process feels broken and not customer-friendly, which doesn’t give confidence in how customer service or the airline as a whole (EU?!) is being run.

Stole our $1,000 Chase voucher

I was issued a $1,000 voucher by spending $30,000 on the Iberia Plus Chase credit card. They told us we would have 12 months to use the travel voucher. However, they sneakily reduced the number of valid days to less than a year. We tried to use it, within the year mark and were told it had expired. When we tried to renew it, they waited two weeks to make a decision, thereafter sating it was "impossible" to extend or renew. They stole $1000 and threw away our loyalty to them.

Worst airline experience

This is the worst airline we've ever flown with and we will never fly with Iberia again. On both our long-haul flights of 12 hours, which were both full, the toilets weren't checked at all so they were quickly in a disgusting and unusable state: no toilet paper or paper towels, dirty cubicles and blocked sinks. Very unhygienic and completely unacceptable. The crew were rude and unhelpful, and seemed more interested in playing games on their phones. I had to ask one to move her legs, which she had stretched across the aisle whilst on her phone, as she was oblivious to passengers wanting to pass. The food offering was meagre with only one meal at the start of this long flight (which was tasteless and almost inedible) and a small sandwich just before landing. The crew also refused to pick up anything or tidy up, including a paper wrap from a pillow and blanket that was on the floor, which one crew member pushed into a toilet cubicle with her foot. Another crew member told us that he wasn't going to be 'humiliated' into picking up things from the floor. We supposed this feeling also included doing their usual job (at least on all other airlines we've flown with) of checking the toilets to ensure they're clean and well stocked for the use of passengers. There's no humiliation in this as far as we're concerned, just a big difference between poor and good customer service and consideration for passengers. On the flight out the crew didn't put on their own safety belts properly for take off and landing, and failed to check that passengers had their seat belts on, tables stored etc. On both flights they didn't welcome passengers or bid them goodbye as they do on all other airlines we've used so far; instead, they remained in their seats as everyone disembarked without offering any help or saying anything. Overall a very bad experience and surprising from such a large airline company. Never again! Our recommendation: avoid flying with Iberia.

Disastrous experience, never Iberia againNearly 10 hours of delay on the…

Nearly 10 hours of delay on the Montevideo–Madrid flight, missed connection entirely due to Iberia’s fault, and false information shown on airport screens. We ran to the gate only to be told, without even being looked at, that the aircraft was already closed.
We were traveling with a child under 2 years old and a 65-year-old person. Zero assistance, zero empathy.
Rebooking was handled in a shameful way, with staff literally saying “I don’t work for Iberia”.
Seats we paid extra for were not respected on both return flights.
To make things worse, our stroller (worth CHF 300) was lost upon arrival in Zurich.
A company that creates the problem and then abandons its passengers. Avoid at all costs.

pretty awful

pretty awful - i'm trying to book a return flight from dublin to Lima Peru. Economy flexible outbound via madrid - 620 euro.
Return - Business Comfort - 1401.
Joined their membership - and every time i try and book it - before it goes to the payment section - it crashes- with either sorry a technical error has occured - or "An error has occurred and we are temporarily unable to assist you. Please try again later." I've contacted via X and they rang me up to try and buy it over the phone but wanted to charge me another 200 , which i said why? when its their fault that the fare might have changed since i initially tried to book it...i'd even accept the increase if it just worked, but they have failed to ring me back and its just saying the same thing all the time...Awful service

If I could give less than one star I…

If I could give less than one star I would.

We were in intense turbulence for five hours non stop before the pilot thought to let us know what was going. On a 12 hour flight.

To make things worse they kept playing the same message over the speaker every 5 minutes. An excruciatingly long message saying ‘ stay seated’. At a level which was quite literally torturous.

Member WiFi didn’t work, no hot drinks, staff were completely indifferent and unhelpful. Food was crap.

This airline pretends to be premium. It’s on Ryan air standards, possibly worse.

Shitty customer service

Shitty customer service. On our flight Madrid to Lima they suddenly unloaded all suitcases and 70 passengers were forced to stay in Madrid because the airplane was supposedly to heavy. All the important announcements were only made in Spanish. We were one of the lucky ones who made it on the plane but had to wait 3 hours in line to report the missing luggage. And then they told us they couldn‘t deliver to the hotel and had to pick it up from the airport.

Iberia must train their hostesses…

Iberia must train their hostesses urgently on matters of food allergy and intolerance. I informed the hostesses yesterday in business class, only for them to mess it up. As a consequence, I'm feeling very unwell today. Add the ingredients to the menu. So simple.

An airline not made for families

I'm still frowning about our flight experience. As a family of three, we booked a 12 hours trip where the outward was in the Premium economy and the return was in the business class, expecting a comfortable journey with our 2-years old daughter. The policy states that we can select seats 24 hours before the flight, sadly that's just a lie. We were assigned emergency exit seats in the premium economy trip which we couldn't use during take off and landing, and separated seats on the return (separate rows) which is illegal. After some back and fourth at the airport we were given 2 seats on the same raw with consoles in between which made attending to our 2 years old very inconvenient, although there are seats with no such separation.

The real kicker was during turbulence, I had to hold my daughter on my lap to ensure her safety, as I couldn't reach her otherwise. It's mind-boggling that this was the only option. How are parents supposed to attend to their child's needs in an emergency if they're not seated together?

I understand that airlines have policies, but shouldn't family seating be a priority, especially when a child is involved? We paid for a service that didn't meet our needs, and it's unacceptable.

To the airline: please review your seating policies and consider families with young children. I hope our experience serves as a reminder to prioritize family seating and safety.

Appalling

They commercialise passengers' health issues. Regulation EC 1107/2006 establishes rights for air passengers and requires airlines to provide necessary accommodations like special seating arrangements or other support for medical conditions. Iberia simply refuses to comply. Instead, they ask passengers to pay for reasonable, and justified accommodations such as a simple aisle seat to be able to stand and mobilise due to health issues. Unethical and revolting! They think they're above the law. No surprise their rating here is 1.2. What a twisted mentality and horrible company!

Zero customer service

Zero customer service. Flight got cancelled due to bad weather, good luck getting your money back or a different flight. The only ones they tried to give were a week later. Also staff was extremely rude with multiple customers at the Iberia desk around k72 (Madrid airport) on 05/01/26 in the evening. Rather pay some more money and fly another airline from now on.

They do what they want

They do what they want - you can book payed seats and an hour before they change the seats (even they place you away from your partner). To get your seat payment refunded, you have to be active by yourself. No assistance, no automatic refund.

Iberia SUCKS

Iberia is quite possibly the worst, most outstandingly incompetent, insolent, arrogant, idiotic airline known to man. We flew Iberia from Boston to Madrid, then Madrid to Barcelona. An IBERIA employee specifically told us in Boston that we would NOT have to collect our luggage until Barcelona after we asked him if we would need to collect our luggage in Madrid. Our travel agent for some reason booked us a flight to Barcelona that left promptly after our arrival in Madrid, so we did not have time in Madrid to double check this information given to us by an IBERIA employee, or we would have missed our flight. Upon arrival in Barcelona, we waited for our luggage until the conveyor stopped spinning and nothing was left. Went to the baggage support desk, was told our luggage was missing and “IF we find it, we’ll contact you.” We told the baggage support desk where we were staying in Barcelona and that we would be leaving for Seville the next morning. When we left, we updated our hotel information to the Seville address on the Iberia baggage website, and called to speak with a representative to confirm they had the new address on file. We arrived in Barcelona with no luggage on Sunday morning, went to Seville Monday afternoon, and today, Thursday, we still have not received our luggage. Yesterday, Wednesday, 4 days after they lost our luggage, we got notice that our luggage was arriving at the BARCELONA airport. Big help that is! Barcelona is on the OPPOSITE side of Madrid than Seville is. So our luggage is farther away from us now than it was before, apparently. We told them that doesn’t help us much because we’re not in Barcelona, and they said they didn’t have any record of us saying we were now in Seville. Even though we updated it on their website AND SPOKE WITH A HUMAN REPRESENTATIVE WHO CONFIRMED THE SEVILLE ADDRESS. Complete bunch of IDIOTS! STILL NO LUGGAGE ON THURSDAY AFTER BEING LOST ON SUNDAY! I have never experienced this level of absolutely incompetence and I am in DISBELIEF that people this STUPID exist on this earth, and call themselves a business. Absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful. To top it all off, the flight attendants on the flight from Boston to Madrid were quite rude. The flight attendants on the flight from Madrid to Barcelona, however, were very professional and kind.

3 months to refund cancelled flight

Iberia cancelled my flight, and it took it 3 months to get my refund. When I filed a complaint they responded "We trust you will have a satisfactory experience next time." No compensation, no acknowledgment of the actual issue.

Very pleased

We had long haul return flights booked but unfortunately due to illness we haven't been able to go. Provided supporting documents to Iberia and no fuss, no delays, the same day we contacted them they replied to say full refund to be given. In an ever increasing time of big corporate greed, very thankful.

Avoid like the plague

Yet again our luggage failed to survive transit in Madrid. I have to say it was everyone and all luggage that was supposed to make the transit from Heathrow to Buenos Aires via Madrid on 27th November.
As we were taking an Antarctic cruise being without our clothing was quite a problem.
We reported this on arrival and were categorically told that the luggage was on the next flight and in the air to BA. THIS WAS A LIE.
It wasn't and 3 days later was still in Madrid. By the time they found it and sent it to Buenos Aires it was the 1st December and we were in Antarctica.
We had no choice but to purchase replacement clothing when we arrived in Ushuaia, cost £1776. I repeat we had no choice! We needed thermals, waterproofs, shoes, ordinary clothes, everything for a 10 day trip to the coldest region in the world.

So now we are a month later nearly and Iberia have decided to reimburse us less than half the costs incurred, with no explanation as to how they came up with this figure.

Second time we have flown Iberia via Madrid and the second time we have had luggage issues.
