Short Break
Friday the 8th May 2026 - Tuesday the 12 th May 2026.
Not a good experience and not a relaxing break we hoped for. I told the receptionist I was hard of hearing, but this was disregarded. At check-in, we were early, but were happy to get a coffee and chat. We were told the room would be ready shortly. 3 pm came and went, and the room was finally ready at 3.50 pm.
So arriving at the lifts, we hadn't been told where they were or how to operate them. Another guest explained about using our room keycard; we hadn't come across this before.
Our room was clean and bright, sadly only one chair to sit on.
No handset for the TV, no instructions on how to use it.
Our first breakfast - a shambles - nothing had been filled up. We only eat a continental breakfast, and we had to ask for 6 items to be replenished.
No one told us that there were different coffee machines spread in different locations.
A poor selection of cereals, nothing for diabetics, such as unsweetened muesli or Weetabix.
Our last two mornings, there were only either cornflakes or Coco Pops.
On two mornings, there was no wholemeal bread for toast. Two mornings, no one had filled up the marmalade and jam for the toast.
Other people wanted either ham or cheese, again, not filled up.
On the last morning, I pointed out that the milk in the silver dispenser was on the turn, as it tasted unpleasant, but this was also ignored.
Overall, not a nice experience, we had expected much better, we had stayed in other Ibis Hotels, and they had been fine, perhaps the Paignton Hotel requires better leadership.
