Terrible airline. Paid 100 dollars for extra legroom only to be told in the email confirmation that it was a non reclining seat. If this had been advertised as such I’d never have ‘upgraded’. I called... See more

Overall not the worst, certainly not unsafe, but low budget and a bit dingy.
They're a very disorganized and unruly airline. Constant delays and confusion at check-in. Erratic announcements and communications. Hard to understand what they want. Any attempt to ask for assistance is met with surly staff. App is also clunky and convoluted.
They nickel and dime you for everything and lack basic modern flight amenities.

When did this airline get so bad?
When did this airline get so bad?
After almost two hours on the phone, after several failed waits on the web chat, told around 3 times what the flight cost to change it even though they changed my flight times. This is also with Saga Premium, terrible, I'll never use them again...
Not safe for Travelers
My family and I had just arrived a few days before to Amsterdam when a family emergency caused us to purchase return tickets the next day. We purchased 4 economy tickets on Iceland Air for over $6000 as it was last minute. We were told that the flight was 98% full so we were spread throughout the cabin. About an hour later, my husband, a health care professional noticed that my cough, which I thought was from dry airplane air, had turned much worse, and did a covid test. It came out positive, so he immediately contacted Iceland Air to cancel our flights due to Covid. As a health care professional having worked through the Covid pandemic, he knew what danger we would have put the fellow passengers and crew in, so in spite of Iceland Air refusing to postpone or refund our flight, we did not fly.
As we all know, Iceland Air is a budget airline. How many Iceland Air passengers do you think can afford to blow over $6000 to keep other people safe? And how many would? By my rough figuring, I would have exposed about 1000 passengers and crew on the flights alone, not to mention the probable thousands more in the airports. A quick google search shows that the diseases that you can be exposed to include, but are not limited to: Covid 19 and all new strains (XEC), RSV,Bird Flu, SARS, pertussis, meningitis, and many, many more. We all remember the Covid pandemic. It is terrifying to me to think that an airline would value money more than human lives, but apparently Iceland Air does.
Lost a luggage too
Check in from YVR was ok but check in at Paris CDG was disorganized. There was no staff at the counter by the 3 hour before departure time. And no one to explain we must print our own luggage tags even after we already checked in online before we can check luggage causing us to have to line up twice. Also caused us to lose spare time at the airport to buy food since there's no food provided even on an international flight. Finally made it to board just to be told we had to sit on the tarmac for another half an hour inside the plane which caused a mad dash to catch the connecting flight back home at KEF. Again, no time to get food. Good thing I did order food on the plane but prices were high. Got to our destination at YVR and found out they lost a piece of our luggage. We're still waiting to hear what happened to it. No. Would not recommend IcelandAir to anyone.
3-Star because one attendant on the plane was very friendly. Pre-ordered food was good for airplane food. Check in and flights going from YVR-CDG was uneventful. Airplanes were pretty clean. Prices were right.
Icelandair should be renamed Incompetentair
Icelandair is the worst airline I have ever traveled on. I really don't know how any business can have so much incompetence in so many ways and stay in business. They lost my bag 6 days ago and I am still fighting to get it back. I flew from Chicago to Iceland and then had a connecting flight to Paris. For some reason they didn't put my bag on my connecting flight. Luckily, the other bag with my clothing did make it to Paris. THEY JUST ACT LIKE THEY DON'T CARE! The worst part of it is... They act like it's my problem and not theirs. I just got off of the phone with customer service and am hoping there will be good news, but from what I've read in the reviews... It is unlikely. NEVER AGAIN WILL I FLY WITH THIS INCOMPETENT AIRLINE!
i would consider any airline before this one
I must fly this airline out of the US quite frequently due to business in Iceland. They are disorganized, perform very badly if there is a delay, and if you are a business class passenger do not expect to get the seat you reserved when you booked. You will get moved around, it happens to me practically every time. Add to this a supposedly grand but actually unhygienic and filthy business class lounge at keflavik ap. you would think they would clean the toilets during periods of heavy use. If you are Icelandic it's better because they treat their own better, especially if they are personally connected to the airline, sad but true. Would not recommend unless you absolutely must fly them. note also that their business class seats hardly recline and their overnight flights out of the US are very uncomfortable.
hey lost my luggage and ruined my whole trip
Worst service ever. They lost my luggage. We're not even apologetic. Literally they said" we'll, we have lots of lost luggage's, we can't do anything about it".
And even when it came back they keep saying they will deliver it and I finished my trip and they never did. Just AWFUL and really ruined this short trip to iceland. Never EVER going to use airline again.
Icelandair does not fulfill their obligations
The flight to Iceland was canceled by Icelandair due to technical problems. We then heard nothing at all for half a day and they were unreachable by telephone. then we were offered a new flight by email the next day. So we had to book a hotel at Schiphol airport. The Icelandair website states that they will reimburse the tickets for 400 pp and the hotel and meal. We ended up getting 225 pp for the tickets and nothing at all for the hotel and restaurant. Emailed back and forth a few times and suddenly they close the case and you get a noreply in your email????
Excessive Bag Charge
Charged $100 each way for a checked bag when unexpectedly had to check bag traveling on economy light. Outrageously high price, when their ticket price for regular economy with checked bag is about +$35.
Rip-off
I canceled a refundable ticket online…
I canceled a refundable ticket online at their website and received confirmation by them it was canceled by way of 2 emails. Waited for refund to credit card and now they say they didn’t receive confirmation of my cancellation. I emailed them their 2 confirmation of cancellation emails but no response. I think they want my reconfirmation of their confirmation of cancellation lol. Just a heads up that there is some incompetence at Icelandair when you change plans and have to deal with customer service and /or refund department.

Never Fly with this incompetent operation.
The rudest, snobby people that I have come across in my travels.

We lost $3,000 due to their horrible customer service and nefarious fine print. Buyer beware.
Appalling customer service
Customer service either by phone or by chat is practically non-existent. Called, told I was number 41 in queue (!), selected to be called back; waited 2 hours, no call. Tried chat and was told I was 41 in queue to talk to human!!! (and they had the gall to tell me, number 41, that an agent would be with me shortly). I am again in the phone queue at 51 I think.
Good luck dealing with them
Good luck dealing with them. Cancled one leg of our trip until next day , then would not change original
second leg. Was told would need to purchase new ticket, because I missed the flight.
God forbid you need to contact customer…
God forbid you need to contact customer service! Long holds with easily the most tormenting hold loop you've ever heard. I felt like I was in Abu Graib. Tormenting!
Just. Don’t.
A seasoned traveler and travel agent - first time flying Icelandair. NEVER again. Paid 90.00 for extra legroom - that was a joke. Could not get things from ground as it was too tight. They should not market those as extra legroom.
Icelandair does not market as a low cost carrier; however they do not provide a single meal on an 8 hour flight. Everything is for purchase.
Rude flight attendants yelling to put things under seat. That’s laughable as there are electric boxes under middle and window seats that cut the room in half. The aisle seat had a box on the side so there wasn’t any room for feet unless you stacked them one on top of the other.
Tiny overhead bins completed the onboard experience. Boarding? Dark ages. They check each person at gate and only had one person doing it while two others stood by.
Their prices do not warrant crappy service and a horrible flight.
Wi-Fi charged me but only connected a handful of times and timed out with no server found error. I’ll be disputing a few charges with this decrepit airline.
1st time to Iceland and won’t be back or recommend. Never met a country with its hand out the whole time.
An enjoyable flight!
After reading the reviews I was apprehensive about flying with iclandair but it was probably one of the most comfortable flights I've been on. The staff were all super friendly and accommodating and the seats were comfy. We were even upgraded on the way home to extra space. They came found with complimentary water etc. I only didn't give them 5 stars because i think they miscalculated the amount of hand luggage and this delayed the boarding which delayed the flight, but it wasn't by long. overall a very pleasant experience so thank you!
icelandair is awful
icelandair
i took 4 flights with iceland air in a week because it was the only option which worked with my miles, and was appalled at how terrible the airline was. i am not one to write reviews, but i had to create an account just to hopefully prevent people from flying this airline. here are all the things which went wrong on my flight
- [ ] takeoff delayed on 3/4, the flight which was on time was delayed 30 minutes at the gate because “there was nobody there to connect us at the gate”. 2 of the flights were delayed when we were all sitting on plane but the luggage wasn’t yet loaded.
- [ ] payed wifi not working on 3/4
- [ ] self check in kiosks not working on 4/4 of the flights, which led to long lines of people trying to get checked in with the little amount of staff
- [ ] i was very thirsty, asked for water and was told they can’t get it to us until we are in the air because “the kitchen is closed”
- [ ] very little food options, all overpriced and tasted awful,
- [ ] have to pay for everything; no complimentary food, have to pay for headphones, pay for wifi (even for texting), checking an extra bag was 120€!
- [ ] air conditioning wasn’t turned on until 2 minutes before takeoff (probably to save money), must have been 85-90 degrees in there!
- [ ] my first name was misprinted on my boarding pass ( turned my 4 letter name into 2 2 letter words) which led to me having to get it fixed with the service staff
- [ ] many seats do not have windows even though the seats directly across do have windows
do not use this terrible airline! worst airline i have ever used by a long shot, fly on another airline it is 1000% worth it!
Beware! Don't spoil your travel
This is one of the worst airlines that I have booked with.
1. They have the worst cabin luggage size policy. There is no cabin bag that fits the dimensions they use.
2. They do not mention details like No Food offered during flight for Economy (got an email 1 week before the flight about meal purchase options)
3. No headphones provided for screen viewing.
4. Not worth even as a low cost airline.
Worst experience to book this flight! BEWARE! Do not book this airline ever!
