Renaged on 'lifetime' license

Paid for a lifetime 'iMindMap Ultimate' license in 2018 only to be told in 2019 that they were replacing it with a subscription service and they have now ended all support.
I've got a new laptop, deactivated the old version and activated a successful install on the new machine, and it activates but will not open or create any new documents. Apparently a LIFETIME license does not mean what I thought!
