HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE!
A close family member of mine was employed for years at Innosphere and had no prior disciplinary issues. Management was aware that our family was dealing with a traumatizing medical personal situation and initially encouraged them to take the time needed, including using vacation days followed by an approved medical leave.
Notably, Doug (the manager) personally showed up to my families private memorial, demonstrating clear awareness of the seriousness of the situation and the vulnerability at that time.
On the morning of my family member’s return from leave, employment was immediately terminated with the explanation that they were “no longer fit for the job.” No accommodation process took place, and no options such as modified duties, a gradual return, or alternative roles were discussed. There had been no prior indication that the role was at risk.
During the termination meeting, it was stated that the decision to terminate had been considered during the leave/right before but was delayed until after.
After consulting with legal counsel, the circumstances were identified as raising serious human rights concerns, including potential failure to accommodate and discrimination related to the medical leave.
Innospheres overall handling of employees during medically or personally vulnerable periods is extremely concerning, and disheartening. Prospective employees are encouraged to carefully review the company’s policies on employee protections before accepting a position here. Good luck!
