Dangerous to start ups! Dishonest management.

We spent many years as a client of John McMahon and co and had two great accountancy technicians during this time which was the reason why we stayed for so long. The company management however overloads its staff with ridiculous workloads meaning that both of the accountants we were assigned to started to drop the ball causing us major problems during critical funding rounds.

We decided to leave when our latest accountant was off on long term sick leave and we couldn’t even get a conversation with anyone who could help us leading to issues with unpaid VAT, PAYE and more. This all occurred during a major funding round in the business and was dealt with dishonestly by senior management who made excuses rather than solving the problem.

Senior management also stated on a number of occasions that they would ‘work with us’ in regards to fees that we felt weren’t owed after we had no accountant for nearly 5 months. Instead they sued us for the full balance!

If you’re a startup company these guys are not for you, they are dangerous to your chances of success. We have moved on to solid provision elsewhere, we would have done years before had our assigned accountants not been so diligent.

If you are an investor taking advice from senior management in this firm that’ll be a fantastic way to lose your money! While they market themselves as knowledgable in venture capital and well connected the reality is far away from this claim.

If you’re a typical small business they’re likely okay, but don’t believe senior management when they say they’re on your side. They’re there for the fees and nothing else.
