Kmpt needs a massive shake up, it’s a shambles !
I have been a patient with kmpt for maybe 20 years . The first 15 ish years were fantastic i was, and i felt supported and safe, listened to and understood. Unfortunately all the mental health clinics, wards, community teams etc have gone to pot. They are so badly underfunded it has caused massive gaps in care, and appointments by telephone are a waste of time energy and are really very bad idea for physchiatric patients. The write ups which form your care plan are done by staff who very rarely know the patient, don’t seem to listen to the patient and who fill in a scripted tick list form sent to the GP which is nearly always wrong information and it seems guess work.
It used to be so different when we all had a named cpn who got to know you properly, who seemed like they cared and didn’t want to just prescribe and discharge. You would see the same consultant a good few times before you saw someone different . Now it is cold, you do not feel heard at all. It is a shambles with them arranging appointments and changing or cancelling at last minute and blaming the patient !
What is really sad is if someone is desperate and having a mental health crisis they say “here are emergency contacts” …. But those contacts ….they are either too busy to answer, too busy to get back to you and definitely too busy to visit you in your crisis , never quick enough to actually help, and by the time you get a response they say unless you are actually going to kill your self or someone else then you must wait ( often weeks even a couple months) for an appointment…. There really is NO help in a crisis , !
What they consider to be a mental health crisis , is only things on a
Scripted list and if your issue is not on the list then you are not having a mental health crisis. !!!
When someone considers themself to be having a mental health crisis then they ARE !!!
Being told it’s not a crisis is probably the straw that breaks the camels back and could be enough to flip that person and is definitely a real threat to their life to their stability and to their sanity !
Kmpt needs to take stock of how they make people in crisis feel ! They do not help they just make it worse ! ….
The only way they can/will improve is by listening to what patients say, listen to what the families of patients say , take the information , all the information on board , treat each case personally not generalise over a diagnosis they may have !
These people are individuals with complex problems that all need addressing at the same time so treat the patient as a ‘whole’ looking into the history as far as they can go back …..not just the apparent issue on the day , which is most likely NOT the real deep set problem.
Give kmpt loads more funding as what they get is nowhere enough to look after even a small amount of patients and kmpt has thousands of people with mental health problems that are just not getting better because of funding !
Kmpt need to improve quickly before tons more patients spiral and end up not needing help …. because they have ended their life already.
KMPT has blood on its hands and the number of failed patients grows by the day.
