La-Z-Boy UK Ltd was established in January 2017 - a wholly owned subsidiary of La-Z-Boy Incorporated, in the USA. La-Z-Boy Inc, which has its international headquarters in Monroe, Michigan, has a strong history for producing comfortable and quality products and is a brand that is known throughout the globe. The furniture company that would later be known as La-Z-Boy was founded in 1927 by American cousins, Edward M Knabusch and Edwin J Shoemaker, who invented the first recliner in 1928. A comfortable concept, the folding wood-slat porch chair followed the contour of a person's body, both sitting and leaning back. Using orange crates to mock-up and refine their idea, the partners invented the reclining mechanism that would sweep the world off its feet. The chairs were an instant hit - but needed a name. Combining promotion with necessity, the partners held a contest and turned down suggestions including Sit-n-Snooze, Slack-Back and Comfort Carrier before choosing La-Z-Boy as the clear winner. Over the subsequent decades, La-Z-Boy's product line has grown to include a myriad of pieces and styles, making it the world's best-selling recliner. La-Z-Boy continues to innovate, building on a unique heritage that has pioneered new developments in the furniture industry.

Great sofas - bought direct from La Z Boy

Note - we bought La Z Boy sofas direct from their Kingston shop; not via SCS or other retailer as many report in their reviews. Don't know if this makes a difference to the quality however we can confirm:

1) The purchase experience was great; Jane in Kingston was helpful and knowledgeable without being pushy.
2) The delivery guys were also great. They were here for over an hour fitting together the sofas and demonstrating all the features.
3) The sofas are exactly as we hoped and expected; comfortable and finished to a high standard. Note our sofas are covered in Altara fabric, (not leather).
4) Paul in customer service has been very responsive to questions I raised, both by email and on the phone.

I've read the negative reviews here on trustpilot and, so far, our experience has been much more positive. Again, I don't know if buying direct from La Z Boy makes a difference, however I will report back if any problems in the future.

Top price for cheap rubbish.

Thought we were paying for quality paid top price for tat. The leather is pealing all over two sofas and a chair. When we complained apparently it's our fault for sitting on it without a towel under us. Should have read the reviews as we arnt on our own. Stear well clear.

Leather is just cheap painted fabric

8La z Boy used to be a high quality company. We bought 2 leather recliners, it turned out to be shoddy painted fabric. When we rang customer service they said only the mechanism was guaranteed and if would cost £70 for a callout. The arms are now an embarrassment and so I unscrewed them in order to reupholster to find this cheap fabric is stapled to cardboard with some stuffing underneath. It's shocking.
DO NOT BUY LAY Z BOY

I bought a lazyboy sofa just over a…

I bought a lazyboy sofa just over a year ago. I paid 7k for his sofa abd im still paying it off. The heated seats have stopped working and so has the mini fridge. The leather is peeling on a seat that myself and my child never use. On the recliner the foam has flattened and it looks terrible. All these problems appeared 1 year after delivery. I paid over £300 for castelan repairs but they won't fix. What a waste of money. I wish I saw these reviews before I had spent so much money.

Poor quality even worst aftercare

I’m writing this on behalf of my mum, who spent an absolute fortune on a La‑Z‑Boy 3‑seater recliner and matching armchair, believing she was investing in a premium, long‑lasting product. Unfortunately, the experience has been the complete opposite.

The furniture is only around three years old, used by one person living alone, yet the leather is already showing noticeable wear. Both USB chargers have failed on the armchair and the sofa. Worst of all, the power armchair stopped working entirely after being left in the reclined position.

La‑Z‑Boy’s warranty is handled by Castelan Group, and their service has been nothing short of shocking. They were contacted in early November but didn’t bother to come out until late November. All they did was put the chair back into a normal position and then told us it wouldn’t be repaired before Christmas. That meant my mum an elderly woman was left without a working power recliner for over two months.

Today (2nd January 2026), Castelan finally emailed to say they’ve now ordered the part. So realistically, you’re looking at nearly three months to resolve even the simplest issue. Completely unacceptable.

After this experience, I looked up more reviews and realised this isn’t unusual La‑Z‑Boy and Castelan both seem to have a terrible reputation for customer service and warranty support.

Avoid both companies. The products are overpriced, the quality is questionable, and the aftercare is an absolute joke. We will never purchase from La‑Z‑Boy again.

Poorest of quality in any sofa

Purchased sofa through sofology. Poor is the only word needed for the quality of this sofa. Paid almost £7k for what should be no more than £1500. Nothing aligns, puckering everywhere, backs dont line up. Buttons for one of the recliners is wedged between 2 seats so only a child can use. Very uncomfortable. Extremely poorly made. Trying to organise a refund through sofology. Never again.

Would not recommend Lazy Boy suites..

Purchased a two seater settee and a three seater recliner settee. The leather on the recliner started to thin and flake after a year eventually tearing. Given the cost and fact that Lazy Boy was promoted as reliable goods I had confidence it was a good purchase. I was so wrong. SCS no help at all...

Leather breaking up after 2 years

Leather breaking up after 2 years
Paid almost £3k for a three seater leather recliner. Within 2 years the surface layer has started lifting. Had to pay Layzboy £75 for some dodgy 3rd party company to send a 'technician' to inspect our sofa because Lazboy's 10 year warranty only covered the leather for 1 year! I was told that there was no fault with the leather! So I paid a leather restoration specialist to inspect the sofa. He confirmed that the problem is down to a fault in the leather.

Don't waste your money on cheap, poorly made furniture

Don't waste your money. They might be a recognisable company name but they make substandard furniture with cheap painted fabric that I wouldn't remotely call leather. Bought a £3000 recliner sofa from ScS 2 years ago and the 'leather' surface is already flaking off. No recourse from insurance or ScS who class it fair wear and tear. Look elsewhere if you want dependable, well made furniture.

Pile of shit

Only had our la z boy suite about 3 years and its falling apart already ,what a pile of shit.spent nearly £5000 on it and got no pets children, hardly ever sitting on it due to me and my husband working full time, and when we come home to sit on it and enjoy it ,I get angry about it the fact the leather is super thin and coming apart. And we put a throw over it to hide it.which why would you wanna hide a £5000 suite 🤔 nobody will do anything about it ,have tried everyone and no one interested, and they saying there is nothing wrong with it .SCS dont even sell them anymore and I wounder why as they are complete and utter pile of crap .And we are still paying for this suite aswell .never ever buy one again or recommend to anyone .avoid them at all cost .

Dreamed of owning a Lazi Boy 😣

I have always dreamed of having a Lazi Boy suite so finally could afford to finance one. Got it home and on the 1st evening of using it I never sat on a more uncomfortable chair in all my life. The recliners leave you with sore legs as they don’t extend straight out, leaving your legs hanging putting pressure behind your knees. I am totally disgusted with suite, it looks good but that’s about it.

Total rubbish

Tried this for a month. So uncomfortable and unable to use. Also the gap between the seat and the back when you sit on it lets in draughts. Wife has had chills leading to kidney infections due to this. Swage on back of chair looks like it was sewn on by a drunk, might explain why chair wobbles a lot.Zero aftercare from DFS - 'nothing wrong with chair' means we are stuck with an expensive ornament.

- minus rating £4000 and worst furniture and customer service

Bought 2 lazy boy recliners . One static and 1
Recliner .
On my 2nd settee and 3rd repair
. The one we don’t even recline has foam falling out and springs poking through the leather . Replaced once and again the same . Repairer even cut through the leather and never realised till
I cleaned it . Now can’t claim as the extended warranty (what a joke ) won’t cover it . Worst £4000 I’ve ever spent . Avoid . Also SCS are as bad

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless. I would NOT buy another thing from La-Z-Boy, the after sale service from this Company are non-existant, the contact number given on the Net and by the Retailer who sell their products and the repair contractor is also non-existant so getting any form of contact or support at all is impossible. I will now be shopping elsewhere for my furniture and not a couldn't care less manufacturer like La-Z-Boy.
The La-Z-Boy reviews speak for themselves and speak volumes.

We brought a suite from SCS

We brought a suite from SCS, (presure sales) 18 mths ago, including a Love Seat, which we did not like, we replaced it with another recliner, when trying to sell the Love Seat, we found it did not have a Fire Lable on, therefore couldn’t be sold, ( having to go to the tip ).
I have written to the CEO of La Z-boy with out a response, beware of this company. If you’re reply was accurate then there would be tell tell signs of where it had been applied during manufacture, but there was none.

Hi Ian, thank you for sharing your feedback. To confirm, all our product is produced with fire labels on, within the production line these are checked to be on each item at our factory. Rest assured we take this very seriously. However, we can't comment on why your love seat label was missing as there could be a number of reasons once the item had left our factory and with the retailer. Thanks, La-Z-Boy
