This could be a wonderful place to stay…

This could be a wonderful place to stay but needs a lot done to it to get it there.
Impressive entrance after parking the motor and head to reception
Warm greetings but then I realised I should have thought more about the person (87year old in-laws) we were taking for a treat back to his old haunt 😳 because after booking in I asked where the lift was
There wasn’t one 😱 but they gave him a room on the lower level
It was a bit of an epic getting him to and from his room and a good job they had a few bits and pieces we could look at whilst having a rest like the stain glass window, Moose’s head etc
Anyway the rooms wasn’t bad but just tired while some things were good others need to be thought out a little better like our small tv perched on a table in the far corner I just wished I brought my binoculars to view it.
Our room was up in the loft area I think and had to take notice of my direction for to get back to collect my father in law down and around staircases and narrow creaking passage ways and gave myself a pat on the back for getting to his room at the first attempt
We’ll forget about my morning attempt.
Pleasant evening in the bar but because hardly anyone there felt we had to talk quietly as not wish the other table in the corner listen to our family’s history etc
Nice evening snack but went to our rooms early to make sure we made it
On a high note the breakfast was wonderful and filling 🤗.
Not sure what to advise people other than if you like an adventure then perhaps include this Hotel.

Awful experience

We had completely the opposite experience to the previous reviewer. Booked a Premier room with a super king size bed for 2 nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, but only stayed one after we spent a sleepless night in an overheated family room with a double bed. If that wasn't bad enough, the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work and I'd guess hadn't for some time judging by the rank odour that spread into the bedroom, the heated towel rail didn't work either, the toilet seat was loose, the luxury bath towels turned out to be thin hand towels and there was nowhere to put anything on or by the bath, including the soap. Shocking in a supposedly 4 star hotel. The dinner menu, in January, consisted of 2 cold starters and soup, pork, a veggie option and fish and chips, for mains, and 3 variations of ice cream for pudding. Again, shocking for a 4 star hotel. Despite 3 couples eating dinner the wood burner wasn't lit and the room completely lacked atmosphere as we all just ate and left. Breakfast was okay, but the waitress got our order wrong 4 times so it came out in stages from hot to cold. After I complained about our room they knocked about 25% of the bill, but judging by the prices on TripAdvisor we were still overcharged. Overall, the staff were nice enough and the building and location are lovely, but in our experience everything else about this hotel was 2 star at best and our stay there certainly ruined our anniversary.

1 night away couldn’t fault it

Came here with my girlfriend for 1 night it’s been the second time coming here and the experience was just as good as the first could not fault the place . I originally paid for a standard room but on arrival with out knowing we had been upgraded free of charge to the premier room which was brilliant ... we stayed for dinner bed and breakfast of which all were really good and could not fault anything staff was excellent and helpful and made us feel so welcome 🙂
