Very disappointing experience with…
Very disappointing experience with Martin & Co Crewe
I recently rented a property through Martin & Co Crewe, and unfortunately my experience from start to finish was very poor. I wished I could rated zero star on this.
To begin with, I was very flexible with the property viewing. I agreed to view the property just a few hours after my initial call because the agent was unable to accommodate my preferred time. That was absolutely fine with me. After viewing the property, I decided immediately that I wanted to rent it.
However, the viewing itself was disappointing. The agent provided very little information about the property and only answered questions when I specifically asked them. At the end of the viewing, I was simply told to contact the office myself if I wanted to proceed with the application. I found this very unprofessional. I would have expected the agent to liaise with their colleagues and explain the application process, the next steps, and what to expect. Instead, there was no guidance whatsoever.
I was later sent an email to complete my references through HomeLet. After submitting everything, I was only three days away from my planned move-in date and had received no updates at all. I had to chase Martin & Co repeatedly for information, including the inventory and utility meter readings. I was told these would be provided the day before I moved in.
When I finally received the inventory, I noticed that there were no water meter readings recorded. I raised this when collecting the keys and was told the information would be provided later, as they "usually send it on the day of move-in." Unfortunately, that never happened.
I contacted another member of staff, who was very helpful and escalated the matter to the Property Management Department Manager, Laura Famer. I explained that the property consists of two separate flats and there are two water meters outside. I had no way of knowing which one belonged to my flat.
After contacting the landlord, I was simply told that the newer meter was mine and that they hoped this information helped. It appeared that I was expected to locate and access the meter myself. I politely asked whether someone from Martin & Co could attend the property to access the meter and provide the opening reading, as the meter cover could be heavy and difficult to lift.
The response I received was:
"Unfortunately a member of Martin & Co shall not attend to take the meter reading as we have advised you where the meter is."
I found this response dismissive, unhelpful, and lacking in basic customer care. Fortunately, I eventually managed to lift the heavy meter cover myself using a screwdriver, but I don't believe this should have been my responsibility, particularly when establishing the correct opening meter reading is important for utility billing.
Overall, my experience with Martin & Co Crewe was extremely disappointing. The communication throughout the tenancy process was poor, I had to chase for almost every piece of information, and the level of customer service I received—particularly from the property management team—fell well below what I expected from a professional letting agency.
On a positive note, one member of staff who escalated my concerns was genuinely helpful, but unfortunately this was overshadowed by the overall lack of communication and the dismissive attitude I experienced afterwards.
I hope Martin & Co Crewe reviews its customer service processes and treats future tenants with greater professionalism, respect, and support throughout the renting process.
Bad experience from day 1
Unfortunately, our experience with Martin & Co has been extremely disappointing from start to finish.
When we moved into the property, it was not in a fit or acceptable condition. The house had not been properly cleaned, the flooring was dirty, belongings from previous tenants had been left behind, and there were broken toilet seats and a broken shower. These issues should have been addressed before new tenants were allowed to move in.
More recently, we discovered that the property we are currently renting has been sold — something we were never informed of, despite being assured that we would be kept updated on any significant developments. Finding this out independently online was both shocking and distressing.
When I contacted the office to query this, the member of staff I spoke to was abrupt, dismissive, and rude, and showed no empathy or willingness to apologise for the lack of communication or the upset caused.
Overall, the standard of service, communication, and professionalism we have received has been very poor. I would not recommend Martin & Co based on our experience.
All just before Christmas too.
What can I say about how good this…
What can I say about how good this company is........ Absolutely nothing. They accuse you of stealing property belonging to the landlord despite us proving they had actually removed it themselves but not updated the record. They then state it was going to cost £1250 to repaint the bathroom ceiling because there where black marks around the show cubical. Strangely the landlord had replaced this during our tenancy due to the old shower leaking and the black marks was grout that the plumber had left nothing to do with us and had been emailed to them and acknowledged we have marked your records. Clearly the ceiling was going to be painted with gold at that price. Trying to get your deposit back when you take it to a dispute is an absolute nightmare and despite reassurances from management and directors they still failed to follow the DPS correct process leaving me still out of pocket. I tried putting in a data service request under GDPR and it took them 3 attempts to finally get it right. For a large group of estate agencies as it's not just Martin and co there knowledge has been found wanting.
20 months through Martin's
Having rented through Martins for 20 months before moving on to our own property we can't speak highly enough of our experience. They always went the extra mile for us and we would recommend them to anyone looking to rent.

Martin and Co have managed a couple of properties for us for the last 8 years and whilst most things have gone smoothly, there are times when issues arise and it’s a massive help when I ring up and Laura answers and deals with matters promptly, efficiently and professionally. Thanks for listening Laura and passing my concern up the chain of command and resolving my issue
Landlord this time
Landlord this time, seems they take advatage on both sides. Both tenants and landlords. I've gone away, thank goodness. Never again!
18 months later......took it to Property Ombudsman, and they awarded me compensation. But not the amount requested. They charged me for insurance for a very long time, and i didnt realize that they hadnt taken out the policy. Refused to return my money.
So watch out........ If your letting agency charges you for insurance, be cleverer than me, check that they contract the policy !!!

What an unprofessional company
What an unprofessional company! They promise everything when they know they are going to get a contract from you, but after you have signed the contract, it is evident that they don’t care. They don’t reply to you anymore.
If you want deposit back, DO NOT use greedy Martin & Co. - Demon, Vampire
Wish I could put less than 1 star. In an attempt to deduct my deposit, they created a list of problems when I moved out. I found that those problems already existed when I moved in. I've already informed them and took photos of those problems when I moved in. How can they attempt to ask for a deposit deduction for some damages and dirty things that already exist? If you want your deposit back, don’t use greedy Martin & Co. - Demon, Vampire☠️☠️
Excited to move in
Enquired about a lot of properties then called to arrange viewings. After the viewings were arranged, we couldn’t fault Martin&Co. They have made the process stress free and we can’t wait to move in to our new house
Chris Martin & Co Crewe 5*
Chris Williams fromMartin & Co Crewe, did an excellent job of sorting out the extension of a lease for my tenant. Very efficient service as always from Chris. Recommended 👍🙂
Martin and Co - agents from hell
Martin and Co housing agents, Crewe, Nantwich branch . refused to give me deposit of £923 back, had i known that that's what they're good at, i wouldn't have chosen them. This is how they make their money. I stayed in the 3 bedroomed house in Salisbury Close in Crewe for 6 months with my college teenage son. One month before end of tenancy in August 2022, they did an inspection which they were
happy with. I cleaned the house before leaving but they still complained that the walls needed painting some dark scratches and the garden needed mowing. Is that worth £923. They could have given me some of my deposit but because they're so greedy, they decided to keep my money.
Landlord review
If I could put less than 1 star I would do. I was a let only landlord, thank god I didn’t go managed.
I instructed Martin and co to find a tenant which they did very quickly and sorted the deposit with the DPS, looked all promising at the beginning but as soon as i made payment, thats where it all went wrong.
No one answers the phone, when they do they say they will call you back and never do. Broken promises, one after another. Tenants ended up being nightmare tenants too.
They messed up the first tenancy agreement with putting wrong dates on. Which meant as a landlord i lost out on money. When the tenants finally moved out, Martin and Co have been extremely poor with the communication and protocol on their procedures (my one year can communicate better than them). When trying to organise the deposit return (which was rightfully mine) after it going to adjudication, because the tenants were arses (rent arrears, stolen furniture, burn marks in the carpets, paint and plaster coming off walls), Martin and co didn’t put all the evidence forward to the DPS following a dispute, we nearly lost the deposit too, along with a ruined rental property. I am 7 months post the tenants leaving, I have been award the whole deposit and Martin and co have still not sent it me. Absolute cowboy estate agents.
Would not recommend these at all.
Having experienced different agencies…
Having experienced different agencies prior to Martin & Co, I can confidently say that Martin & Co are by far the best. They have been professional yet personal and extremely efficient. I am very happy with the service provided - thank you Martin & Co.
