Highly Recommend⭐️

Myself and my Fiancé have just bought out first home together, we are so glad that we had Martin and Co Gainsborough as our estate agents! Alex and Keeley were so helpful thought the whole process, always there to help whenever we needed it right up until we picked up our keys! (which also included multiple visits to the house.. sorry again!🫣)

On the day of collecting our keys we also got a box of goodies to help us settle into the new house which we thought was a very generous, personal touch to the process!

We would definitely recommend Martin and Co gainsborough to anyone buying a house!

Thank you again for all of your hard work and making the process of us being homeowners as stress free as possible!

Personal attention and asistance of…

The personal attention and much appreciated asistance of Alex Walshaw, regarding the recent sale of our house sale, can be recommended. He kept us updated on progress, chased where needed, and even did a couple of extra house visits on our behalf (because we lived a good hour away) assisting our buyers with a couple of queries they weren't sure about. All in all very satisfied with the service. Thanks Alex and Martin & Co.

Very impressed with the service

We would like to say a massive thank you to Alex and Keeley and all the staff at Martin & Co who have helped us to buy 2 properties and sell our recent property, they sold our recent property in 3 days of it going on the market and went above and beyond for us in the purchase of the other 2 properties we purchased through them, we have also today made an offer on another property they are selling and should it be accepted we will look forward to working with them again, thank you Alex and all at Martin and Co for your support and help.

Close working relationship between us and Martin & Co

We are a Wall Tie & Damp Proof Specialist company, who also offer an element of property maintenance and have a close working relationship with Martin & Co. They provide swift property management and have excellent communication with ourselves. We deal heavily with the maintenance team and the manager Angela Longstaff. We would also like to thank Sinead Bench, Sophia Cooper & Samantha Wharton for there continued support and swift resolutions, when needed. We have now provided them tenant & landlord support for 24months +.

Helpful and polite

I’ve read the other reviews and exercised caution because I was so keen on a property, but I found the experience delightful. Sinead was able to book us in to look at a lovely local property and was very polite. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for us, but we would use Martin & Co again and feel safe with them if the right property came up. Thanks Sinead.

Unethical, incompetent and unprofessional

Martin & Co are truly dreadful, incompetent letting agents. When I moved in the house smelt of animal urine, clearly hadn't been cleaned and was full of beetles. Since then every inspection I've filled two A4 sides of serious maintenance issues and nothing has been sorted. The roof leaks, there's serious damp, and decay... They only fixed the loose stair carpet when it almost injured one of several contractors came to give a quote on fixing the roof (and never came back).
Martin & Co arranged with me to move my rent payment date forward to align with my payday and then somehow forgot how this worked, constantly emailing me to say that I'd underpaid when I was paying a week earlier than before.
Then they unceremoniously transferred my tenancy to another agency with no explanation, barely any warning and no details about what was happening or why.
I cannot think of a worse, more profoundly useless agency to let from.

Steer Clear !!

Overall the worst estate agency we have encountered.
Communication is abysmal.
Staff are unprofessional.
We were not kept informed on progress and blatantly ignored.
Only positive we can say is viewings were easy to arrange.
Avoid at all costs !!

Helpful and Effective

I read the other reviews on this site, and found my experience to be totally different. Alex Walshaw couldn't do enough to help me through the purchase of my property in Gainsborough. Alex arranged to meet me for a viewing on his day off because I couldn't make any other days. I found Alex to be courteous and answer all my questions in a warm and friendly manner. I had great difficulty getting a formal mortgage offer being an Australian citizen and only having one year's self-employed accounts, and Alex kept himself abreast of this whole process. My conveyancing solicitors took 5 weeks to get answers to their queries, and in the end it was Alex who was able to contact both solicitors and move them along earnestly (colourful language could be read between the lines) to the point where it was completed within 2 weeks of Alex's push. I moved 250 miles from Devon and obtaining the keys was again Alex meeting me personally 8.30pm Saturday night on his day off at the property. Next day he messaged me to ensure all was well. Great service basically. I would use him again and recommend others.

Worst estate agents I have encountered

Where do I start!!! I will give the short version.
I called up a couple of days ago to book a viewing on a property (92 High Street, Scotter).
I was asked the question do I have a property I am selling to which I answered yes!
I was then asked is it on the market? I explained not at this precise moment to which they responded then you can’t view this property!
I explained to the young lady that I have Martin & Co in my local area ( this review is no reflection on the Tamworth branch as they are brilliant) coming out to take images etc… in the next week and it will then be going on the market if I like the property I wish to view! I explained I would be relocating from the midlands and wanted to be sure.
I also explained that the last 3 properties sold in my area ALL sold in less than 48 hours.
I was then told she needs to speak to her manager as this is their policy as she would call me back!
I waited but no return call so, I called back but she wasn’t available but a message was taken by the letting team! Still no call so I called again and this time the accounts team answered as sales were not available and a message was taken!
Guess what no call back! Eventually I got a through to the sales team and…… she said my manager said no! I explained that you haven’t asked me any further questions about my financial position and I can assure you I am in a position to offer if I like the property! She then went quiet for around 2 minutes and said I have spoken to my manager and he said the vendor doesn’t want you viewing it!!! WOW
She said if you’re not happy speak to my manager! I said that would be lovely could you put him on the phone……. Apparently Alex will ring me back!!
I’m not going to hold my breath!

This review is only about the Gainsborough Martin & Co not any of the others!

If you are selling your property with this branch please be aware that they are a bunch of amateurs that really will not represent you well at all! As a buyer I have decided although I do want to move to the area I would not buy a property from this branch.

Also just an FYI as I wasn’t aware that Martin & Co are a franchise so all owned by different people.

Very shoddy communication and no motivation to sell

At the valuation Rich was fab and very professional, he was very helpful, after the valuation and putting the property up for sale is where it went wrong. They only contacted us on 1 occasion after e-mailing on multiple occasions with any updates. We were promised they would visit to conduct a review and didnt contact me further regarding thisso after 6 weeks i decided to take it iff the market, i tried calling no one got back to me so i e-mailed and never received acknowledgement or any review as to why and they took it off.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
The worst customer service you will ever experience.
Staff seem to go out of their way to be rude, unhelpful, even argumentative and shouting at times.
Overcharge landlords for work, take longer than necessary to undertake repairs, incapable of checking pre tenancy photos when doing a move out and just out to Rob both landlords and tenants at every opportunity.
Absolutely awful.

To Martin & Co, Gainsborough

To Martin & Co, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire
I called this grubby little office every day for a week, (Monday the 1st of August through to Friday the 5th of August), to try to arrange a viewing of a house to be told every time that the vendor would only provide them with a land line telephone number that had no answering service and there was never any reply to their calls, also that they would not give them either their mobile number or email address, and, that they were ‘inflexible’ with the price of the house and that was the reason it had been on the market since the 5th of March 2022. I suggested to them that perhaps one of them should call the vendor in the evening or even write them a letter, this was met with silence. On the afternoon of Friday the 5th of August the agents changed the details on Rightmove to ‘sold subject to contract’, I am therefore of the belief that the agents are acting, at best, in an under handed way and have lied to me and by omission to the vendor, I spoke to the vendor and was told that there had NEVER been a difficulty with the estate agents getting in touch with her! We did not think the cottage was overpriced and would certainly have offered the full asking price after a viewing, as we have carried out as much research on line about it and the hamlet of Pilham as possible. We have sold our house, we are cash buyers and did not even need to wait to have a survey of the property carried out. If everything I suspect is true this appalling little company should be avoided at all cost if you are considering selling your house.

As a professional registered letting…

As a professional registered letting agent why are they letting a flat in Gainsborough that doesn't have planning permission for the change of use. The planning application is under request. questions have to asked if it has Gas certificates and correct current Electrical certification for legal letting.

Unprofessional charlatans

Only giving one star because I can’t give none. Unprofessional bunch of charlatans that just want to keep your money even when it’s not warranted.

Would not recommend - ever, not even to someone I don’t like!
