Customer first until there’s a problem! Totally unprofessional. They ignored emails. They refused to return to discuss issues. The worst contractor we have ever dealt with.
Advice if you are planning to engage MH to carry out any work for you
Get a written contract and terms and conditions. We didn’t even when Matt referred to the contract when questioned about removing our previous paving slabs. Numerous requests for this were ignored.
Insist on having access to receipts for materials, plants etc. that you have effectively paid for
Get the guarantee verbally referred to constantly by Matt up front and in writing - what it covers against what and for how long. MH has have consistently refused to provide this, leaving us highly sceptical that we will have any future recourse should problems arise
Don’t believe their website - they do use subcontractors - for brickwork, which was messed up and had to be repeated. They spent 3 hours laying bricks in darkness under the light of 2 iPhones! Nobody from MH ever supervised any of this.
Withhold part of your final payment (maybe 10%) for at least 3 months. MH supplied a small tree which once the spring growth appeared was dead on one side. Hollie argued at every stage offering only a cash refund (leaving us to source a replacement, remove the old tre and plant the new tree ourselves) despite being contracted to supply and plant a tree, which was certainly not fit for purpose when planted. We offered to take the matter up directly with the supplier, but MH refused to provide their details. We doubt it ever came from a nursery. An unbelievable argument over something with a value of a 0.25% of the project price. The first test (pretty small) of their customer ethos completely and utterly failed
Carry out your own inspection on completion. Matt promised a full clean up - Hollie then told us the team had left it “spotless” despite never having been to our property! They had mixed concrete on a block paved drive without adequate protection. It took us 2 days to clean the garage, walls, fences etc. and Matt had to return to acid wash the block paving.
Unless you are happy for your project, comments etc. to appear on MH’s website, Facebook page and other media without your permission, ensure that you retain those rights
Finally, some advice for Matt and Hollie. Stop promising on customer satisfaction and actually deliver. Your words were meaningless. Talk is cheap, action is the only criterion.
