Avoid.
Hi. Just to warn you this is going to be a long post.
Our arrival was disappointing from the dead flowers at the entrance to the greeting from the owner.
We have been out in our caravan 8 times this year and this site was recommended by some tenting friends.
Upon arrival we booked in and were greeted by an abrupt man who passed us a piece of paper as a receipt along with a piece of paper with some 'don'ts' on it and saying there were shops and doctors etc nearby. I asked if he had any information ref a recommendation for a local pub or places or interest. He looked shocked that we had actually asked and said there were shops in East Leake and pubs. I told him we would google the information.
Ok, here we go!
Firstly no one mentioned, upon booking or on the site, that we are below the landing path for East Midlands Airport or that there was a kennels a few fields away. The aeroplanes are running into the early hours and are very early in the morning {6.30}. It was interesting to count how many DHL, TUI, Rynair Jet2 plus others are landing. We could clearly see details of the planes and the fact the wheels were down. they are just above the trees.
There are boarding kennels a few fields away and we heard the barking from the dogs most of the day however, morning and night were worse. I assume as the dogs were looking forward to their breakfasts and dinners.
Unfortunately whilst we were there the mobile home next to us had a faulty alarm which went off numerous times during the day and night for the whole time we were there {4 nights} I rang the mobile telephone number one night of the site owner that was on the information sheet given to us, to see if the owner could be contacted. There was no reply so I left a message. No one replied to my message at all. We subsequently found out from another camper the owner was abroad. It may have been an idea for him to have left his keys in case of emergency.
The waste water, chemical disposal and bins are located down the drive which is a fair trek especially if you have mobility issues. You are also required to be a recycle person with splitting general waste, glass, cardboard and plastic into separate areas. Whilst I appreciate we need to recycle. instructions were very strict.
The area is a mix of camper vans, motor homes, caravans and tents which were pitched at the end on which looked like a grass verge.
There are 2 combined toilets/showers for 10 pitches , potentially 20 people. The toilets were strange and left your legs dangling! the showers looked nice until you realised they were quite grubby. Pics are deceiving.
You are not allowed visitors, to wash your car/van {which I can understand due to a water shortage} No clothes airers are allowed {presuming you should use their washing machines and dryers, priced at £6 and £3.
The Map inside the shower block/ washing machine area could state where you are and places of interest. There were books and CDs and games albeit a bit tatty.
No information ref the Alpacas although the Alpacas are referred to in their advertising of the site.
We also had to try and level the caravan which resulted in the nose being quite low compared to the back and with the jockey wheel almost being in the towing position.
Consequently! we left a day early and will no way return. We also heard this from 3 other campers whilst we were there with another couple leaving early.
The two ladies in the campervan next to us had their hose unplugged whilst out as the owner thought they were going to wash their van. They had to point out that this hose refilled their tank inside the van for them to able to use their washing facilities. Something we had all paid for.
There is no signage anywhere near the site until you actually fell across it. We looked out for the sign that said Burial Site, which was next door.
At no time during our stay did anyone come round to ask if we were ok and to actually introduce themselves.
It was refreshing to read other peoples reviews however we wish we had read them before going.
