Dear Mr Ventora,

We were sorry to hear that you were not happy with the price quoted, but it was not for one tyre change as indicated above.

Upon inspection, your car had three tyres fitted the wrong way round (which we were informed a non-MOT Angel workshop fitted recently). Our quote was to take all wheels off, fit all tyres correctly, fit new valves and wheel balance the vehicle.

If that was not clear in your conversation with our engineer, then we are sorry.

We requested the workshop return your car at 5pm, and apologise for the slight delay.

Our engineer also offered a full and correct Lexus manufacturer service, for £205.47. This represents a significant saving vs the online price quoted by Lexus' main dealers of £389.53!

We are sorry you are not happier, but hope this information puts your mind at ease.

Regards,

Brilliant! Took the stress out of a Service & MOT

I'd previously had a couple of bad experiences when taking my car in for a service which had proved costly and felt like I was being ripped off. So, MOT Angel seemed worth a try. The garage collected my car in the morning and the next thing I knew was when they brought it back in the afternoon, no issues...what? Yup nothing else to say really, job done! This is the second year I've used them and have been very happy.

Great Service

Booked MOT and Service through their website. Good customer service. And they help me avoid unnecessary work and expense. Will definitely use them again next time.

Already feeling suspicious of this company!

So far awful experience, misleading information and instructions given by company, received diagnosis and repair costs from garage they instructed car to go to, however I then receive email confirmation that my claim is being denied by them, this claim being denied is for repair costs that are not listed from the garage? Also I have not actually even put a claim in yet? I have paid over the odds for a service with a added motor Angel fee on top? This all seems very suspect so far to me!! I shall be making a complaint!

Absolutely Shocking Service

I used them in 2014, the car passed and I heard from them via phone. Last year (2015) they screwed up my MOT. I booked it in for the Friday the only day I have off work. The car was supposed to be collected between 8.30am and 10.30am. At 11.30am I phoned them to find out what happened, as the car had not been collected. I never received a call back. I eventually received a message via their system 4 hours later saying that the car was booked in to the garage on the following Monday, by the garage, which had nothing to do with me, as that was the anniversary of the MOT. I organised the booking 4 weeks before the Friday booking was for, so should have got back to me if there was an issue and they never. I vowed I would not use them again, the 2015 MOT cost £265 as I had no choice but go on the Monday, which was not through MOT Angel, The repairs would have been covered by MOT Angel Pass Guarantee. This year (2016) I decided to use them again. I got it booked in a month early of the MOT date, just in case. The car was picked up today on schedule. I got a call from The garage and they called me to ask if MOT Angel had been in touch, which they had not. He advised the car had failed on brakes, pads and 2 tyres. I knew 1 tyre needed changing as I had a blow out on a rear tyre on Wednesday night at aprox 22.00 and I organised a tyre to be fitted by the garage on the Friday before the MOT on their website.

Now the car needed over £300 of repairs excluding the tyre to be fitted.

MOT Angel said that because I knew a tyre was to be fitted that the warranty was invalid. What a load of garbage that is. It's just a way for them to get out of paying for the repairs. they said they would refund the payment for the Pass guarantee. Of course they would. I tried to argue that if the garage never fitted it before the MOT, then that was not my fault, as that is what was instructed by myself.

This will now be going legal and I, 100% will never use them again.

They never had the decency to call me to advise of the situation in the 1st place as appears to be common if you need work done with the pass guarantee,
I had to phone them to get answers. If your car passes they will call you, if not good luck finding out. They really, really don't give a damn about the customer & I won't repeat what the garage said about them.

Dear Mr Ewen,

We are sorry that you have not been satisfied with our performance.

We have investigated what happened with this year's booking and found that you were in our call back list at all the correct times.

There was a delay in calling you back because your engineer was trying to get a manager to agree to cover your failures, which would normally be partially covered under the Pass Guarantee.

However, because you booked the tyre directly with the garage, this invalidated your Pass Guarantee. Which is why we refunded it in full immediately.

We appreciate that this was a frustrating situation for you.

However, as a company it is very important that we treat all customers equally.

It is a condition of the Pass Guarantee that all repairs relating to the MOT are booked through MOT Angel. It allows us to effectively monitor the workshop for your benefit, it helps us prevent fraud and this helps keeps the price of the Pass Guarantee as low as possible.

In most cases, booking all repairs through MOT Angel will also save you more money.

We do appreciate that you have been unlucky with the timing of your tyre blow out, but we felt we had to stick to the terms that all other customers are held to.

We apologise that you were not happier with the outcome.

Never again !!

Regret ! Why did I fall into their trap? Paid £210 for service + MOT which has been arranged in Halford Ardwick, Manchester. But not even got interim service. When I asked the halford mechanic about it he actually showed me the job list given by MOT Angel!! It was only oil & filter change including few basic checks. All togather 10 points check they have been asked to do. For a diesel car it's very important to check glow plug & diesel filter but unfortunately my car end up with very basic annual check for the price of full. I could have get a 69 point check including changing air filter in Halford for £180. I had to pay another £134 for few minor repairs, again I would've saved £34 if I had it done by Halford. I regret that I trusted them. Another company came in the market to con people!!

We are sorry you were not happy and that the workshop caused confusion.

I believe both the booking agent that first took your booking and our service Engineer have now spoken with you to discuss your booking and explain what happened. I hope this was helpful.

We apologise that the booking agent did not make the following clearer when he first booked you in, but we hope it has now been explained to your satisfaction:

A key benefit for customers who book through MOT Angel is that, unlike most garages, we don’t charge you in a service for inspection work covered in the MOT test.

Around 75% of a service inspection is covered by the MOT. So, if you have an MOT first, you only need a short list of service items, this saves you a great deal of money. Plus the standards of the MOT test are monitored by the Government while service standards vary greatly.

There is a lot more information in the article on our homepage: ‘MOT Vs Service’ (http://www.motangel.co.uk/article/MOT-or-Service/)

We always check your manufacturer’s service schedule and in your case, your car’s onboard computer was checked to confirm that no other service changes (such as air filter) were required.
I believe that you also saved over 10% on MOT repair work compared to the retail price.

I am sorry that the workshop provided confusing and inaccurate information and we will raise that with their head office.

But for your peace of mind, let me re-state the following

A standard “full service” offered by most workshops (including the one used for your car) is not the same as your manufacturer service guidelines, which we always check. We do not charge extra for the correct oil and our MOT service, which short, always includes the important safety items such as a wheels off brake check.

Had you purchased a service and repair directly from our workshop, you would have paid more for less, as we have split our trade discounts with you.

These are just some of the benefits of having our engineers manage the workshop, rather than you having to deal with them directly.

Lexus Manufacturer's Full Service & MOT

This was my first time with MOT Angels so I was apprehensive. I was astounded by the excellent service given. MOT Angels kept me update with the progress of my car service. It was excellent customer care, Raj in particular, responded to all my queries patiently and professionally. Most of all the cost of service through a reputable garage was most competitive with quality care. I strongly recommend MOT Angels and will use them again.

Makes MOTs easy and cheap

They did everything: booked in the MOT, collected the car in the morning, got the MOT sorted that day, checked it was kosher, made the repairs and got my car brought home that evening. Saved me money and let me know what to look out for next time.

Highly recommend to anyone.

Really clever service

I needed two tyres and all my local places wanted more money and gave no advice - just said there is a budget tyre or a branded tyre and gave me prices. MOT Angel explained the fuel and grip and noise ratings and in the end I got the best two branded tyres for my car for less than at local suppliers, and only £6 more than a budget tyre that is not as good. Only thing that could be better is I needed them quickly and had to wait for them to get them in the next day.

Been cheated of Mot Angel Plan!

I booked an mot pass guarantee plan on the 17/12/15 for £99.99 and was told everything will be covered to get pass mot on the day and was booked in for the 21/12/15.

I took the car to Halfords on that day and later received a call saying it failed on two faults, 1 was a abs light and other parking brake efficiency.

I spoke with garage and mot angel and explained when I turn key there are no warning lights which stay on?

I was then told to pay a further £69.50 to have a look at the faults which I did immediately and the car should be ready that evening, I waited that evening there was no response, I waited the next day no response, I waited the third day 23/12/15 and I was told the repairs will come to £1800.00 as a rough guess?

I was not offered anything from the mot angel policy or exact prices so I had no choice to collect the car.

I did mention to mot angel I would like a second opinion but I was told they wont help and I can take my complaint further.

It has been a complete disaster dealing with mot angel and Halfords and waste of £169.49 and I may have to write a review with trustpilot if matter not resolved and take further action.

I can confirm that the fault was not evident because the garage confirmed that the fault was Current.

Secondly the parking brake had nothing to do with the first fault which was still not repaired, I had paid a addition to get checked and get rectified and was also covered under the policy.
Your advisors confirmed that the garage had a bad reputation and complained to head office.

I am very disappointed with your handling of service.

We are sorry you are not happy with the outcome of your recent MOT.

We take all customer feedback seriously.

With regards the ABS light, the MOT tester confirmed it was on prior to the commencement of the test.

We can only pay for surprise failures, because we have to treat all customers fairly.

If there is a warning light on the dash, then this is deemed an evident fault and cannot be covered. This is the case with your braking system.

Ideally evident problems need to be investigated and repaired before the MOT so that the Pass Guarantee can cover you for surprises.

We monitor all bookings from start to finish and if we or our customers are not happy with anything we will take various steps to improve matters which range from reporting the workshop to head office, through to black listing them.

This workshop has previously received positive scores from our engineers, but even good garages make mistakes and these will be raised appropriately.

We will be offering to share our trade discounts where we can on non-covered repairs as standard.

However, we appreciate that your car has a potentially expensive ABS braking system issue (that may require main dealer only parts, for which we cannot access a discount) and that is never a happy situation.

Three great experiences for me...

MOT Angel has provided me with a great service (on three occasions) that I would recommend to anyone. As someone with a limited understanding about the workings of my car, they offered peace of mind (given their automotive knowledge) I wouldn't be overcharged/ charged unecessarily. Proven by the fact that compared with a local, trusted garage where i used to get my car serviced/ MOT, their bill was £60 cheaper! They do have conditions on their pass guarantee packages though so make sure you understand these before expecting the world.

Motangel

Motangel, thank you for responding to my comments.

Whilst I note your points raised there are number of factors you have not considered and have seeming decided to ignore.

Firstly, I understand that the vehicle is old although it is not so old to have unreasonable or unmanageable issues. There is no point to try to justify problems, delays or unprofessionalism due to a vehicles age unless you are suggesting that the garage you sent the vehicle to is not experienced enough to deal with this sort of thing?

Secondly, you are missing the most important point of all and have not addressed the key issues for me as a customer.

One of the expected benefits of using a service such as yours is that it is supposed to be convenient. The vehicle was booked a week in advance, to be collected on a Saturday. We were informed on the Friday, the day before it was due to be MOT'd, that Motangel could no longer collect or MOT the vehicle. This meant that it was very difficult to re-arrange over the weekend and there was a significant delay in getting it booked in again. We were then told, by way of an explanation, that although a customer may book a vehicle in with Motangel, it will not be confirmed with the garage for several days. Therefore, when you are booking, the customer cannot actually be sure that they have a guaranteed MOT date, it could be cancelled at the last minute. This is really frustrating and, I believe, misleading.

This level of customer care has been the same all the way through this protracted ordeal simply to get an MOT. Yes the vehicle is old and yes, there were a number of things that needed doing but, that does not mean that staff members should ignore you, deliberately mislead you or dismiss your concerns as if you were not important because your vehicle is old (btw, 13 years is not old, the average age of a car on UK roads is 11 yrs). Even when I asked to speak to someone more senior to get some clarity over what was going on, I was simply ignored. Later, I was told that I could write a letter to a manager. Write a letter!!

As another example very recently (this went on for three weeks), I was told that Motangel had not managed to arrange delivery of the vehicle that day but would try for the next. I was told that Motangel would keep trying to arrange delivery for the next day and to call back before they closed at 6pm to find out if it was possible. When I called back at 5:45pm the recorded message told me Motangel closed at 5:30pm. Either incompetence or a deliberate attempt to mislead or lie to a customer.

Finally, none of your points address the most frustrating concern of all. When you book a pass guarantee you expect most situations have been though through. It is reasonable to expect this as a customer so that you are not left high and dry. But, if your vehicle is collected and then does not pass it's MOT, your vehicle cannot be returned to you so that you can consider your options. This basically means that Motangels can hold your vehicle to ransom until you pay what they are asking or, you arrange for collection at your own cost. I was told that this version of events was far to difficult to anticipate so they did not plan for it. I think most reasonable people would feel this is obvious and it is unreasonable to hold a vehicle ransom. Motangels should make an effort to be honest and tell people that if their vehicle fails, they will have to arrange to get their vehicle back themselves. Simple really.

Unfortunately, nothing of the response I received from Motangels has reassured me. The response from Motangel appears to me more concerned with rubbishing my opinion, my vehicle and generally suggesting that I am being unreasonable than genuinely addressing a customers concerns. It may have been more constructive to contact me directly to talk through these issues.

In short, I would not recommend using Motangel. It does not do what it says on the tin, unless you are prepared to do exactly as Motangel tell you to do, on their terms and at their prices. As I said before, use someone you trust, Motangel are not worth the risk.

It will be cheaper to get your vehicle MOT'd locally, and, it will definitely be more convenient!!!

(P.S. 'no quibble'! You have got to be kidding - I paid for the 'pass guarantee service' as it offers potential savings. Why would you 'quibble' about providing a service I have paid for! Moronic!)

A total nightmare.
My recent experience left me in despair.
The service booked and paid for was the pass guarantee and collection/delivery service.
I should have smelt a rat when I booked the MOT in at a local garage through Motangel a week in advance. They called the day before to say that they could not collect the car and it would have to be rebooked a week later and the nearest garage was over an hour away. They insisted on it being a Halfords garage.
When I checked directly, Halfords offer the same service for less than Motangel.
When the vehicle was eventually taken to the garage it failed its MOT on a couple of points, rear brakes and push rod wear. One advisory was also stated, slight play in the steering rack. Given the cost, I asked them to go ahead with the two failure points which they did for a cost. The following day I was expecting the vehicle back. It did not arrive. I had to call Motangel. I was told that having looked at it again they had decided that the steering rack was actually an MOT failure but had decided not to tell me. They then went on to tell me that the cost of the repairs was so high I decided not to proceed, it was something I could do more cheaply locally, and it was agreed that the vehicle would be dropped back the next day, Friday. Friday came and went and it did not arrive. When I got back from work it was not there and it was too late to call Motangel. The vehicle did not turn up all weekend and I called on Monday, I was told that they would not deliver it back as it did not have an MOT. This meant that I would either have to wait another week so I could arrange collection over the following weekend or, pay for the work to be done.

Basically, I was trapped into paying over the odds for work I could have done more cheaply at home and by someone I would trust.

This experience has taught me that you are much better off getting your MOT done locally by someone you trust because, once your vehicle has been taken by Motangel and passed on to a third party garage you have no control over what work is carried out and you are advised by people who do not understand the issue, they are simply reading off a screen. You either do what they say or you don't get your car back unless you pay for collection.

Other than the lack of trust, the customer service and communication was truly terrible. I was given misleading information and on one occasion, deliberately ignored at the end of Friday afternoon. I asked for more information on a number of occasions and was mislead - for example on the work that was needed, the time it would take, the cost and the service provided.

All in all, it is not the poor service that concerns me the most it is the fact that you can be held to ransom once they have your vehicle, you have no choice but to do what they say. Please read this and I urge you not to use Motangel.

We are very sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your MOT Angel experience. We have taken the time to run through and provide our comments on your points below:

Unfortunately the vehicle in question is a 13 year old van with a number of MOT advisories and failures over the last few years. This can mean the vehicle takes longer to be diagnosed and repaired as more and more significant issues have to be addressed than on the MOT test of younger vehicles.

During the MOT, as you mention above, it suffered two major failures.

We immediately offered to cover these through our Pass Guarantee, with no quibble, up to the limits stated - saving you over £250 in repair costs.

Additionally we automatically shared our trade discounts on the costs not covered through the Pass Guarantee. Saving at least £70 more.

The MOT test only reveals problems, the repairs have to be diagnosed and quoted after the test.

While we understand your frustration with the delay in diagnosing that the steering problem was as a result of a worn steering rack, it is an unusual failure, that does take technician time.

With regards to returning your car we did offer you the option of collecting the vehicle but were unable to return it due to legal restrictions on driving a car outside it’s MOT.

It is only legal to drive a car to an MOT appointment without an MOT, and no insurance would cover driving a car where the MOT has found it to be unroadworthy.

Our logs show we have been in regular contact throughout and went to great lengths to keep you informed of the progression of the MOT and repair.

We continue to strive to offer customers value repairs, great cover and positive customer service and are sorry that you are not happier with the service we are trying to offer. We will continue to work hard on your car for you.

-------

Dear Mr Leith

Thank you for your response. We are sorry that you have not been happier with the service, and we have fully reviewed your case, as is our policy.

When a customer chooses to publish an online review, we have an obvious duty not just to the customer, but to our staff and suppliers, to respond and also to clarify the facts.

When our colleague advised you to ‘write in’ they meant via our message service or email. We ask customers to do this if there is a serious problem so that a manager can fully review your case.

We take your comments seriously, whether in email, message or on sites such as this.

Our response regarding the age of your vehicle, was intended purely to show that the size of the overall repair bill is not particularly high, relative to the age of car.

The average age of cars on the UK roads according to the SMMT is actually 7 years, not 13 years old as you say. 13 years old is the average ‘scrappage’ age, because at that age the cost of repairs becomes prohibitive to most people, and they look to replace the vehicle.

Our primary goal is to try and save our customers money, ensuring they get good value repairs on their cars. We have done that for you, as demonstrated in our previous response.

Of course we also work hard to ensure that our service is convenient, and swift.

We appreciate that you do not feel we achieved this for you, particularly as we could not return the vehicle once it failed, and we apologise that you are not happier with the service.

Now that your vehicle is back to you, with a full year’s MOT, we hope that it runs reliably and economically for you in the year ahead.

Appalling and misleading service

I was sold an MOT & Service package which I was due to have soon and MOT Angel assured me this would be a saving rather than going direct to a garage as they have better rates and only use reputable garages.
I was quoted £165, I then agreed to this and the invoice came in higher which I am currently disputing. They told me to take my car to Halfords to get the work done and there I saw the same service (MOT + Service) was only £139. They also tried to charge me more for a tyre than Halfords were charging. All in all a complete rip off. Their communication was bad, they didn't reply to emails and it was one big headache and I regret not going direct to Halfords. I will not be using them again.

Unfortunately we have been unable to look into this, because you have not published your name or car details. If you would like to message us these we can investigate this for you.

Our practice is to split our trade discounts with our customers, meaning tyres are always offered with a saving over the retail price.

We would be happy to look into this example for you and see if there was a billing mistake, or demonstrate the savings.

The types of car service provided by Halfords differ to ours and therefore cannot be compared directly on just price. With all our services, we strive to balance value for money with quality. If you provide your booking information we will be able to demonstrate the value of the service you booked compared to others in the market.

These points should have been clear to you when you booked in. Our aim is to provide a transparent service for our customers that offers great value. We are sorry that the above was not made clearer to you when you booked in, and will strive to improve the understanding of our services in the future.
