I took my car to Motest after having a…

I took my car to Motest after having a service with Toyota, who advised me my car was in a terrible way and needed immediate attention. After being quoted an astronomical amount by Toyota to carry out the repairs I booked it in at Motest Hemel Hempstead, from start to finish they we’re professional, kept me updated about the repairs, and advised me the car did not need the immediate repairs as stated by Toyota. My car will now be going to Motest for all future services.

Exceptional service

They offered same day or next day drop off, sorted the car and had it back to me the same day. They didn't have to do this for me but they did. Feel Conned

Booked a fixed price major service & MOT for a Vauxhall Grandland X and was quoted £375. To obtain this quote I entered my reg and the website correctly identified my car. They telephoned during the service to inform me that the car needed some extra work doing and I agreed to a spark plug and anti freeze change. The final bill then somehow leap up to £699.37 equating to £324.37 for the spark plugs and anti freeze. On receiving the bill I queried how the total had leapt up so much. I was told that my car needed specialist oil for which they charged an additional £80.00 even though this was advertised as a fixed price service and there was no mention of this being a likely additional charge on their website. They also charged £25 for the MOT which was advertised as £20. In fact the whole bill was impossible to relate to the original quote as there was 12 lines of itemised items on it. Just feel like I have been conned by this company who I used to use for many years.

Motest are reliable, honest, helpful! Very trustworthy. Tom the manager is really knowledgeable. They fixed my car quickly at the last minute. They're also great with mots!!! 100% recommend this garage for repairs, servicing and M.O Ts

Just out to get as much money as possible from you!

My car went in for an MOT on a Saturday afternoon, which failed on the CV boots. Called back Monday and asked for a quite which came back as almost £500. My local garage who i had been using for years charged me £100. I took it back to motest for a retest, which it passed with no minors or advisories. Two days later I took it back to the same motest branch for a major service. Within half an hour I had received a call saying that both my back brakes were completely worn so would need two new pads and discs. The service and brakes came to almost £700. When questioned why this didnt come up on the MOT I was told simply they can't see them so dont test them. This I know to be untrue. When collecting the car I also noticed that there were oil marks all over it. No other garage i have ever been to has handed my car back in this state. So as I was alone and female, they assume I will just pay up and think its fine. Will not be going back there again.

You mention in your review that your car has covered very few miles in the last year and in some cases, lack of use can sometimes contribute towards issues. In this case parking brake efficiency and bonnet security.

On the rare occasion these faults arise, we make every effort to assist you in trying to remedy the problem. No you didint big lie hahahaha

Although the last MOT (carried out elsewhere) showed no advisories, corrosion has been mentioned in all previous MOT's since 2020, which questions the validity of the last MOT carried out on 16th August 2024 at 156417 miles.

Camberley - Always looking to make money out of people. Spent a fortune with them for many years and when you need a simple bit of flexibility over an issue they use it as an opportunity to be unhelpful and strap you up for another cost. Wont use ever again.

However, on this occasion you had some part worn tyres fitted and one of them had a cut to cord, which failed the MOT retest. Motest Hemel Hempstead - Great Work

I can’t rate the Motest Team from Hemel Hempstead highly enough.
I took in my daughter’s car with a brake issue - not so simple to solve as 1st thought, but Tom in particular put in lots of effort to avoid making fixing the vehicle more costly than the vehicle itself self. Throughout the whole exercise he kept me up to date with options and progress. The car is now back up and running and my bank balance it’s empty!! A great service from a very professional team.. will be back to use them again for sure (hopefully not for the brakes though 😀)

Out of pocket and out of a car!

Asked for a full service and brakes to be done all around. Also requested an oxygen sensor change and my car to be MOT ready. Ended up spending 1600 quid for all of this, the oxygen sensor wasn’t replaced and instead they’ve made it worse. They said I’ll need a new catalytic converter which would then set me back to £2800!! I have also got an indicator bulb out (Which I was charged for) and they didn’t bother doing it. A battery was replaced which didn’t need replacing as the old one worked perfectly fine (another £120)!!

This is honestly one of the worst garages for service prices and I really wouldn’t recommend anyone takes their car here.
