I applied for a car loan to refinance…

I applied for a car loan to refinance my vehicle at Member source Credit Union in Merrillville, IN. One reason I picked them, was because my Mom used them. She worked for Nipsco, which is our heating and gas company in Northwest Indiana. At one point in time you actually had to work for Nipsco to become a member at this credit union, or know someone who was a member, that could get you an account.

When I applied, it took them about 3 days to get back to me. Once they did, they denied me. Their reasoning was because my credit was too low they said. They said my credit was a 609 ( TransUnion). My credit is a 680. I know this because I looked up my credit as I spoke with them on the phone online. Not only that, but my credit union ran my credit 4 days prior and confirmed a 680. On top of that I had a meeting 3 days prior with a different credit union, ( a sit down meeting) where my credit also was confirmed a 680. The reason I didn't go with those two were other personal reasons, but my credit score wasn't one of them.

So this wasn't just me checking online, ( which I used Experian), it was two other institutions that confirmed a 680. Two institutions checking my score isn't going to drop it 71 points in two days.

I don't know what's going on with the system in use there, because it's flawed at best. Either that or it was some discrimination going on. Or possibly both. I don't think they thought I knew what my score was and that it was initially checked days prior. STAY AWAY!!!
