Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 1,501 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people feel that the service provided is poor, with concerns raised about automated systems failing to understand account details or providing unhelpful responses. Reviewers frequently mentioned issues with account management, such as being asked for extensive verification or experiencing problems with transactions and payment methods. There is a consistent feeling of being disregarded by the institution when raising complaints or needing assistance. However, some customers had very positive interactions, noting firsthand experiences of kindness and professional treatment from particular branch staff. A small group of consumers also mentioned receiving speedy and empathetic help from specific personnel when facing difficult situations. Conversely, a few other people also felt that some staff members were rude, poorly trained, or made personal inquiries during service interactions.

Best Bank in Great Brittain

It is so helpful to be able to talk to an advisor in person. This is a great bank and has kept it`s offices open when so many are shut. For an elderly person who is vulnerable online this is a godsend. I am trying to encourage my daughter to change her account to them, they make banking so easy and safe. Plus you can ring them and get a local person from your local branch on the telephone. The customer services of this bank are easily 100 times better than all the others.

A company that hopes disabled people will just go away

I’ve tried so hard to communicate through the options provided, but if the department don’t like an answer they blank you by email.

I’ve had an ongoing overdraft issue since April, the complaints team originally said I could deal with this via email due to being deaf, but the collections team are ignoring me and have not responded since early June.

The complaints handler I spoke with after begging for help made me feel like a nuisance for asking for further help and kept telling me there was nothing more that could be done, and to call instead if collections aren’t responding.

Feeling dismissed and belittled I raised this with Kerry, another complaint handler who made me feel heard and understood for the first time since the original person told me I could deal with everything by email. I was given August 20th as an end date for the a new complaint investigating how everything has been handled, and with a hopeful outcome of collections taking on the case again and not ignoring me.

After chasing this multiple times (having to go to citizens advice to make the calls as I struggle to hear and form clear sentences otherwise) it turns out the investigation has been silently voided with no communication to me as to why. I was offered a further complaint to see why, but the complaint handler didn’t seem to understand why such an option feels pointless and distressing after this had already been done, and had been ongoing since April. He didn’t seem to show much care at all.

I was told that if I don’t like it, it has to go to the ombudsman.

So at the end of this I have no clear outcome and both departments refusing to help me.

You’ve had a disabled customer begging you for help for months, and your complaints team aren’t concerned in the slightest that collections are ignoring them.

I’ve been made to feel like a nuisance and an inconvenience, forced into communication methods which rob me of my independence. But after everything I’m still no closer to resolving the situation.

Avoid if you’re disabled, they don’t see you as anything but a problem that will hopefully disappear if you make the process difficult enough.

I was lucky as there was a teller free

I was lucky as there was a teller free. I've thought about asking before, but there are nearly always long queues and I can't stand long. It would be helpful if there was someone on the help desk like there used to be, but guess you're too busy now.

All banks are closing their branches

All banks are closing their branches, I like the fact that Nationwide is committed to keeping branches open. Online banking is all well and good and I do use it quite often but having a branch nearby and open is great, the ability to speak to someone face to face makes all the difference.
