Not to be trusted

Took my car in because it was showing an active drivetrain error.

I had already paid for an independent diagnostic which suggested a sensor issue, but Nev’ll Fix It said they would only proceed if they carried out their own diagnostic. They did that, confirmed two sensors needed replacing (pre-catalyst lambda and exhaust temperature sensor), and I approved the work.

The bill was just under £800.

I collected the car and within less than half a mile of driving, the drivetrain error returned.

When I raised it immediately, they refused to treat it as an unresolved issue and would only look at it again as a new paid job. The blame was put back on me for not describing other symptoms, despite the car being booked in specifically for the drivetrain error and them insisting on doing their own diagnosis.

I expected an expert garage to diagnose and fix the fault I brought the car in for, or at least stand over the outcome when the same warning returns straight away. That didn’t happen, just blame and excuses.

EDIT: The garage’s own response confirms the key point: the car was taken in with an active drivetrain fault.

Yes, I told them an earlier diagnostic had suggested a sensor issue. They then insisted on carrying out and charging for their own diagnosis rather than relying on that. They say they checked the vehicle properly, identified the faulty sensors themselves, added an additional sensor fault, and recommended the repair.

That means the position was clear:
1. Fault: drivetrain error on the car
2. Cause: sensors diagnosed as causing that fault
3. Fix: replace those sensors to resolve it

I approved that work and paid nearly £800.

I then drove the car away and, within less than half a mile, the same drivetrain fault I had originally taken the car in for returned.

That is the point being avoided in their reply. This is not really about noise, wording, or whether every possible symptom was described perfectly. The core issue is that they diagnosed the cause of the drivetrain fault, recommended the fix, carried out the work, took the money, and the original fault came back almost immediately.

They were aware I had a newborn and urgently needed the car back, yet it was returned to me with the original fault unresolved. I was then left without a usable car and told this would only be looked at again as a new paid job.

Many Thanks for taking the time to leave this review.

I will try for the benefit of those reading this to keep it condensed owing to the amount of time if dedicated to this so far.

1 Drive train is anything to do with the motion of the car. Engine. Brakes. Suspension. ETC ETC as I tried to explain in various emails.

You presented the vehicle with a fault that someone else had looked at and scanned then told you that it needed sensors but could not fix for you, which we found unusual.

ALL conversations were about this and NOTHING else, as per recorded conversations in and out of the building, that I have listened to and are available.

WE as any reputable garage will not take someone else’s diagnosis as gospel primarily IF we fit a unit that they indicate to the customer and that does not fix the problem then the customer is still liable for the bill and we get it in the neck as its now our fault.

So we advised we would check the vehicle based on the indicated conversations which we did and also found that the Temperature sensor for the exhaust had also failed, and the lambda sensor of which there is more than one so we had to identify which one, and this is possibly why the previous garage did not want to undertake the jobs they are expensive to get wrong. We have the facilities to scope and check the units functionality as the MAGIC computer does not say change that one.

We changed both units with dealer parts at dealer prices, as agreed by yourself along with the costings.

Following the the changing of the units the vehicle is logged onto BMW’s software scanned and calibrated as required and fault read to ensure all is well. In this case it was. No lights on the dash and not faults in the systems.

You collected the vehicle and came back with the information that the noise when you’re driving is still there ?? Which I was surprised about. When I rescanned the vehicle there was no codes to indicate error in the ENGINE drive train.

“The blame was put back on me for not describing other symptoms,”
We unfortunately are not mind readers and as there are so many systems on the BMW where do we stop and at what cost. And the same indicated fault did not return as you took away a fresh scan that showed this.

“I expected an expert garage to diagnose and fix the fault I brought the car in for” WE DID, we completed what you indicated, sensors and running off the engine drive train.also backed up with fault scans.

Had you had the foresight to tell us that you had a fan noise when driving then we would have looked into it for you, and im surprised the other garage did not because all they indicated was emission problems, so perhaps the assumption was that this would fix the noise, where all the sensors do is monitor and ensure correct emissions .

In closing based on the above the current issue you have IS a different Job to what was told to us and fixed, and as such we would charge for our time and expertise to find and eradicate it.

Unfortunatly this has all arisen from lack of information given to us.
I would respectfully suggest that you fully inform the next garage of any problems you are experiencing from noises, running Issues, rattles and squeaks .

It sounds like you want to reply to someone and make the message clearer or more professional. Here’s a refined version that keeps the same meaning but improves the tone and clarity:

Thanks for your update, but you are still not accepting any responsibility for not informing us correctly. Your car was returned to you with the presented fault fixed, as was explained and detailed verbally at the time and in the above explanation.

Daylight Robbery

I have just paid NINE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE POUNDS for new rear discs and pads, fresh brake fluid and an air con re-gas. £ 434 for 2 rear discs is daylight robbery. Genuine Citroen discs are £322 per pair.
When I phoned to enquire what discs had been used, I was told that someone would get back to me. Did they? NO.
Nev'll fix it? Never again!!

Edit... I have to apologise to Nev'll Fix It because in my anger, I didn't give them much time to respond before posting my review. Within minutes of posting I got a call from Nev. Coincidence? After contacting his supplier he has managed, somehow, to get me a refund of £76.87 to reduce my bill to£858.19.
He told me that he likes to use good quality components. Brembo supply brake discs to many car manufacturers, including Citroen, and sell discs for my car for £300.00 a pair less than the ones supplied. This would have brought my bill down to the price I expected to pay. If you take your car to Nev'll Fix IT I suggest you ask how much the work will cost before giving him the job.

Many thanks for your Apology, its appreciated.
As said my apologies for the overcharge, but was based on price on our supplier invoice, which they are reviewing and hence the credit. We very rarely suffer this error and do not have the time to sit and check every price available in the market place, and have for 40 years relied on our suppliers to be competitive and priced less than dealer parts for the same or equivalent quality parts as dealers do not produce their parts as we discussed and in general is the case but as in all things in life sometimes it goes wrong, but we do do our best to correct these errors.
As you indicated if it were not for this you were happy with the service but unfortunatly due to this error we have lost a valued customer. Once again thank you Regards Nev

From the moment I entered reception

From the moment I entered reception, it felt a bit unfriendly. I wish I had walked out at that point. I asked for a quote for an exhaust repair on my car. When it came in at over £500, i said no, sounded too expensive, but when i tried to leave, that wanted to charge me for their time. I was not at any point told there would be a charge. In the end i got the entire exhaust replaced elsewhere much cheaper and much friendlier. Anyway, for info, just be aware that they will try to charge you for time, even if they did not mention it. Will never go back.

Just seen your reply. Hilarious. Sounds like another unhappy customer, cause that was not me, I came in for exhaust not black box. And Incredibly defensive reply. I hardly need to reiterate how I felt when I came in, -anyone reading this will get a sense of how unfriendly you lot actually are.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
Firstly this reception has never been unfriendly to customers that appreciate what we do but when you come in and inform us that you will negotiate the price tends to not sit well. I have Listened to Telephone recordings and watched the video footage of your visit and you asked us to fit a back box to your vehicle QUICKLY! we advised you if you want it done quickly you need to go to one of the quick fit centres as we could not accommodate you. Following your visits to them and they also could not do it quickly, you than asked us again to look at it. you insisted on a firm quote and were advised that it is unlikely to be just the back box and we would need to asses the vehicle to ensure our estimate was as close as possible as we do note give quotes due to the nature of the job, and the fact your only one broken bolt away from a complete nightmare. We put the vehicle on a hoist, carried out a video inspection, which was sent to you so you could see more than the back box was required, and an estimate prepared using quality components as we do not fit cheap rubbish. This was not acceptable to you and you removed the vehicle after threatening my staff who could not be bothered to argue. The fact that you got it cheaper is a fact of life and relevant to every product out there from sausages to new cars and houses. Another fact is that we like every other garage have to pay our Service Advisors, and Techs as they do not work for free as I’m sure you do not. Why you would even think that you can have your car diagnosed correctly, be given sound advice for free is beyond me but thanks for trying us.

UPDATE: My Reply does not mention "Black Box" but "back box" which is part of the exhaust that you asked for.

Had my van towed to the garage

Had my van towed to the garage, was diagnosed by the garage as a snapped timing chain causing catastrophic engine failure. The comprehensive report provided and the fact that they researched the cause, which it turns out the manufacturer knew about, means that the manufacturer today agreed to replace the engine at no cost to myself. Brilliant work.

Rude. Customer service training needed.

Turn up at 0820 for 0830 MOT booked on website.

Told in no uncertain terms I can’t park down there and told to park on a mud patch.

Go into reception, told my MOT isn’t booked until 1345. I said I had email confirmation for 0830 and was told by a chap who clearly didn’t want to be there to prove it. I couldn’t, which he knew as the confirmation email didn’t have a time in it!!

Could never do 1345 due to school pick up.

Rude, unhelpful and I feel poorly treated.

Won’t be back and further planned servicing will be going somewhere else.

Many Thanks for taking the time to leave this Review. We have NO! input into online booking the whole system is automated and books a slot on the diary as requested and has done so for many years. My apologies that you felt poorly treated but we are unable to move MOT times around as this would affect other customers. If there was an error hence the request for confirmation we would have offered a FREE! courtesy car and completed your test at the allotted time ready for you collect either later or next day.

Thank you! for taking the time to review our company.
I am at a complete loss as to why you would waste your time to leave a review for a customer that has NEVER! been here according to our records that go back some considerable time.
But to clarify the comments.
A) we NEVER move forward without the customers permission so they are fully aware of the amount owed at all stages.
B) Unfortunately cars are very complex today virtually computers on wheels and so if there is a complex problem it can take some time to track down and rectify but very rarely 9 hours.
C) The vehicle is owned by you and as such it is your problem that you can stop at any time.
D) Despite all the 1000.s of hours training and the most up to date dealer and other equipment NOTHING says im at fault change me. this is the same problem that ALL garages suffer, including Dealers.
E) All garages including Dealers suffer from customer expectations and sense of entitlement far exceeding what they want to pay for.
A lot of today's Technicians are highly skilled individuals that attend regular training courses (Certainly here) and this is what you pay for, their skills, and knowledge, which i should add is getting more and more difficult to find.
So! next time you want to waste time please don't pick on hard working companies to vent your frustrations at.
PS My door is ALWAYS open.

It should be New won't fix it but will charge you for very little.

It should be New won't fix it but will overcharge you for telling you what is wrong. My daughter's car had a fault with an engine light coming on. They took the car in and said dont worry we will look at it. There was no mention of a fee but was charged £115 for being given a quote for a further £670 pounds worth of work. Maybe my daughter had a sign on her head that day with 'we saw you coming' on it. I subsequently went to a trusted engineer who did the same diagnostic in minutes, didn't charge me for that and then did the fix for less than a quarter of the price. Nev won't be fixing any of my cars in the future.

Firstly as with most garages and in fact individuals you/we do not work for Free that is why you go to work, you are purchasing our knowledge and experience, wages and towards the multitude of bills that go towards running a business and not just time. When you go to any trade they expect to be paid for their time.
Why would you expect us to be any different, see what a dealer would charge, on booking a text is sent informing you of the charge inc VAT of £115.00. something many others do not
Having done the hard work of diagnosing this made it easy for the next "trusted engineer" to verify and fix. Why did you not go to the trusted engineer in the first place.
Very easy to write reviews like this in an effort to try to damage hard working companies reputation, but as in all things in life you get what you pay for, and fortunately after 38 years of owning this company i have a great client base that appreciates the efforts we go to and have been with us for many years.
The job we undertook was not and plug it in a see, but involved an element of dismantling as well to ensure a proper investigation, which im sure your "trusted Engineer appreciated.
"Investigated rough running, fault code P0301 cylinder 1 misfire. Removed ignition leads and found that the core plugs
have been leaking over a period of time, requires new core plugs, rocker cover gasket and set of plugs. Also has coolant
leak on end of cylinder head which will just require a clean up and new hose clamp."
As for the insinuation regarding you daughter, NOTHING could be further from the mark as im sure her work colleagues who we have also worked for will testify too.
i wish you and your daughter well with your future repairs, As you mention we will not be fixing any of your cars in the future i have Blocked you account. ATB Nev

Extortion and Deceit

This company blatantly attempt to extortion and deceive customers. Our car went in for a glow plug change (£38 from Merecedes-Benz, plus labour costs) and this garage quoted £688.83 including additional parts which DID NOT need repairing. Nev'll fixes it for us

Have been using Nev'll for a few years now and am always pleased with the consideration shown for their customers. We're told exactly what is required and alerted to any unexpected work needed before it is carried out. This time we had difficulty in collecting the car but this was resolved promptly by the staff at Nev'll for which many thanks. Have used numerous garages over the last 50 years of driving and this is by far the best customer service I have ever experienced. Well done all at Nev'll.

Don't know where to start

Don't know where to start. They don't even deserve the one star but had to give that to be able to write the review.
We booked our car in for ADAS calibration 3 weeks. I arrived today (20th May 2022) at 8.15am they said they had no idea what it was booked in for. However this job was booked by the owner of the company with no explanation as to what was required on the job ticket. After speaking with my partner on my phone they confirmed to him what the car was in for. This afternoon at 5.10pm we arrived to collect the vehicle only to be informed that they couldn't do the job. At no point had we been called to say they couldn't do the job. They had the vehicle for 9 hours which sat on the forecourt. The service manager and assistant could not be bothered one little bit about this. Very unhelpful, no customer service what so ever.
Supposedly the best garage in Tonbridge, I think not.

My Sincere Apologies for the poor service you recieved. Unfortunatly due to work load i could not get your vehicle in till After lunch. I then found that after setting up the ADAS Machine to you vehicle, that during the calibration process due to the fact that this Nissan was only a couple of years old the system did not cover it. i then proceeded to contact the manufacturer to see if there was an update but had to wait for reply's as they are in Germany, It would appear that this vehicle can only be dealt with by Nissan at the moment which i was not aware of until id spent time trying to go through the process. I did not get a reply myself until around 4.30. I can only offer my apologies and assure you that this is not the Norm. Best Regards. Nev

Thank you for taking the time to enter this comment. And following up on your threats to Slate my company on the social media platforms primarily this has com about dur to your intransigent attitude to a miss heard call that was taken as your “calling in” ie to get and update and “coming in” turning up which you did and your vehicle was not ready despite best efforts to achieve this at short notice in an extremely busy workshop, to which you took umbrage stormed out shouting and you wanted the car first thing in the morning and your not paying for the courtesy car (insurance). The vehicle was ready that night at 5.30. You arrived the next day full of anger that we had not met your expectations. We were charging for work that your previous one man person didn’t, so you expected it to be FREE you accused us off charging you for a courtesy car Insurance that you had not authorised but the phone recording sent to you proved other wise but you did not ring us to apologise, as my service advisor did to you when he realised his error after listening to the recording and explaining that he had dropped the ball, due to the fact that his wife had just been admitted to hospital with suspected cancer and his head wasn’t 100% in the job, to which your reply was “we all have our problems “ absolutely disgusting. I have owned this company since 1985 and have NEVER! dealt with a customer with such an intransigent attitude. And for the record it was me that asked you to leave. Neither i or my staff have to put up with that attitude.
To address the bill we NEVER rip people off that’s why we are respected by thousands of customers in the local area. Our prices do not match one man bands due to as I explained but are cheaper than the dealers for an equivalent or better service. Larger companies have bigger overheads and i pay good wages to employees to ensure I get the best for my customers. As for “the other staff” 4 in reception me, my wife, my service manager and the valeter that washed and cleaned your car “FREE OF CHARGE”
We do not charge for the courtesy car, we charge 11.00 a day for fully comprehensive insurance, this is because as I also explained 3 years ago 2 customers took cars that they assumed they were covered on as they had fully comprehensive insurance, until one hit a Porche on ice and the other black ice on the A21. They then found that unbeknown to them that facility had been removed and both faced expensive bills. So we now supply via alliance insurance fully comprehensive that is as you found fully explained and it up to the customer. We don’t force it and you cannot remove a car without signing the agreement, so! Fully aware. We never carry out repairs without authority as many will testify to, unless it’s something simple like a bulb or wiper blade then we make an logical decision. You were fully informed of the repairs when you came to collect the courtesy car at the counter and agreed. You at no stage asked for a written statement as this would have been willingly supplied, you said you sent an email. Which you did 2 hours after our confrontation by which time you had the bill will all items on it as authorised other that a bit of time that was added that we had to cut off a seize component, this Is standard practice as we are not working to an exact science and until we start a job we or others can never be 100% sure of what we’ll find. As for the value of the car against the repairs that is not our decision to make and I’m sure there are people on this site that we have advised against it, some take our advice some do not. I fail to understand why you say that you were expecting to pay £500 when you were fully aware of the bill other than for effect and when you came in you had your card in hand ready to pay. But insisted on having the last word.
As with all garages we do not suit everyone and are not the cheapest, but our charges are based on our skill sets, technology and training and MANY appreciate that. In closing I have to ask if you were happy with the one man person why did you have to cause us so much pain.
I Wish you well. ATB Nev

Another good job from the Fix It crew

Well, I've been in the auto trade all my career and what I like about these guys is they tell it to you straight. They give good advice and get to the heart of the problem quickly. The workshop always looks well managed and organised. Today was just an MoT and a quick check of the brakes, but the standard is the same whatever the job. They keep you fully up to date with the work so no surprises.

Great service

We were on holiday in the area and a horrible noise started up in the front wheel of my car. Picked out Nev's on Google and turned up at 5 ish on Friday afternoon. They listened and the noise had stopped! But they took it seriously and found a stone which had lodged between back plate and brake disc. Checked the tyre pressures too. All for no charge. Excellent service. Thanks Nev.

Not recommended

I was originally recommend this garage to deal with an engine problem. The price was originally quoted around £250 but then went up and up and up to an eye watering £1200+. The car was fixed but not washed would have been so easy to do especially when you are paying that sort of money.

I had to take the car back because a light was still on. It was reset but then the clock no longer worked. Worse still, I was quote £158 to fix some boot struts which I politely declined. I bought original BMW struts directly for £20 and fitted them in literally 40 seconds. It was yet another example of over charging.

When I brought this up on the phone with then, they became defensive and opted not to debate this. Had they taken a proper customer service view I probably wouldn't have written this review.

I will never use this company again and would recommend others don't either,

Thank you for taking the time to review our company.
I find it always helps if the facts are kept correct, which the above as you clearly know are not.
You presented your vehicle on the 21st Feb to investigate smoking
"'Investigated smoking to find Rocker Cover Gaskets leaking onto ExhaustReplaced Rocker Cover Gasket." so this was what the original estimate was for. Having sorted that we were asked to investigate and electrical fault "Investigated electrical faults to find Footwell Module faulty
Replaced Footwell Module & programmed to car" so the bill rose accordingly to £1056.58 and NOT £1200 as suggested and also not without your consent. Phone recordings will prove this if required. Of this £542.52 was parts
When the vehicle left there were no warning lights on and all was good. You left us a 1 star review on this occasion as we had not carried out a COURTESY wash due to the fact we had no valeter at the time, so NO ONE was getting their car washed.
On the 27th Dec 10 MONTHS LATER you returned despite the previous comments to sort a warning light " Reset TPMS system - FOC as goodwill" The warning light was due to uneven tyre pressures and had nothing at all to do with previous repairs as you've implied, we adjusted pressures and reset light FOC.
we replaced the NSR reverse light bulb as requested and checked boot struts which we removed due to them potentially damaging the paint work for this you were charged, £7,50 + vat Hardly expensive. and two days car hire of 22.00
This morning you called and asked us to fit boot struts which we had estimate at approx £130.00 but you said that you had bought your own from EBAY at £20.00 (phone recordings will verify this is required) These despite what you have told the viewing public in your criticism of my company ARE NOT AND WILL NOT BE ORIGINAL the the cheapest available are Euro car parts Part no: 859110541 and these are £32.96 each plus vat and these are not original. the price we estimated was for ORIGINAL BMW units so obviously more expensive, but last 3 times longer as you will find out.
We tried to explain to you that we do not fit and will not fit customer supplied parts due to not knowing there provenance, and legal implication. but you insisted on arguing and there was no point continuing as we are extremely busy with customers that appreciate our skills, I might also stress nor will any other reputable garage or main dealer . To draw a parallel you don't go out for dinner take your own steak and ask them to cook it! and there's less legality to that.
Lastly the Clock has nothing to do with work carried out and you said it had been like it since February but you did not mention it when you attended in December with the other fault you said was due to us but in fact was down to poor maintenance.
I hope now that the general public who read this will now know that you have tried to insult our professionalism in an effort to have the last word and lied in that endeavour .
In closing as we will NOT be meeting again because you will "never use this company again" I wshl you and your future repairer well. but bear this in mind there is no other garage other than a dealer that has the Main Dealer Kit or experience on BMW as we do And I will certainly not be working for you again.
