greeted upon arrival and offered refreshments as we settled in a private comforted room. when I explained what I wanted to take place the response was calm and each question answered to my understanding. All paperwork was explained before any transaction took place. No pressure was imposed on me at any time

I would like to say thank you very much to Alex Baker for helping us this morning, he was very friendly and very patient. I would just like to let him know that we managed to do the transfer of funds to another account. He helped me to set this up. 5 stars to him. From 2 young pensioners.

my phone calls were promptly answered and each call handler was friendly, helpful, polite and patient. i was talked through the opening of an online account and difficulties were kindly explained which resulted in the successful opening of an account. reassuring to have someone at the end of the line who has patience with a senior not au fait with online hurdles. 'old fashion' service at its best. One negative I should mention is the unhelpful paper application form. The only option for making an initial deposit to open an account was a transfer from an existing Newcastle account! or a cheque. Last time I used a cheque was 2018! and the questions were ambiguous so it was difficult to know how to answer them. e.g. how much do you wish to deposit (which you state) then further down page only option was a cheque or in house transfer as they do not accept a transfer from another building society where funds would come from. Those funds had to be sent to my bank, then onward to Newcastle so only option was a nominal sum in the form of a cheque to open an account, then the full investment amount could be paid in directly from my bank!

The staff in Whitley Bay branch are always friendly, helpful and very efficient. No queue, so I was attended to immediately, they always make me feel welcome which is such a change these days. Also it was nice to get a reply to my review a few days later.

Me and my fiancée are currently in the process of buying a house and made the unfortunate mistake of opening LISAs with Newcastle BS. As my fiancées account hadn’t been open for a year the government bonus was going to be clawed back, this was expected, however on completion day they refused to transfer the money to our solicitors, their reasoning it would take them an extra day to transfer due to the bonus being clawed back. Now to be clear Newcastle BS we’re aware of the transfer date 3 weeks ago, yet only decided on completion day that it would take them an extra day to transfer what is legally my fiancées money and not theirs, they can’t seem to explain why it takes them an extra day, and have so far even refused to confirm that the money will now be transferred on the next working day. This was after speaking to a representative who assured my fiancée that she would email her back today, to be clear they did not email. My fiancée said she would like to make a complaint and the representative said ‘what do you hope to achieve from complaining’ that just demonstrates the sheer arrogance and indeed ignorance of this organisation. I appreciate this may not be everyone’s experience, but they really do not take customer service seriously and at this stage are holding onto money that they are not authorised to.

My mortgage deal was due to expire so I contacted the NBS Customer Service and asked for help in terms of switching to a new product that suits our needs. The advisor was very friendly and helpful, she drove us through the products by highlighting pros/cons so we were able to select the best deal for the next term.

I found setting up an online account easy due to the courteous and efficient staff members I spoke to.
They took me through all the necessary steps in a professional manner.

Bereavement causes many problems including financial if accounts are joint but only your partner has generally taken control. With very little knowledge the online staff were able to give help sympathetically to help me take control of my building Society accounts without any problems. My greatest thanks to their team.

Held a LISA until Sep 2023 when I switched providers. Recently requested copies of my LISA statements from NBS which I need as part of a house purchase. They are refusing to send me these via email, can’t reinstate access to my online account for me to download them and it’s been more than 2 weeks and I still haven’t received copies in the post. An absolutely archaic way of working, wouldn’t recommend that anybody chooses NBS in the 21st century.
