Newcastle Airport AKA The Greed Machine

Although I live very close to this airport I try not to use it due to the very expensive flights it often has in comparison to other airports so I regularly travel from others elsewhere and refuse to purchase anything airside for that same reason
However I returned to Newcastle from Heathrow and can now list the wait for baggage to its list of faults as Iliterally waited longer for our luggage than the time the flight took.
Naturally the airport authorities will be totally uninterested in this as their only concern is on how much money they can squeeze out of their unvalued passengers which incidentally the recent scrapping of the 15 minute free drop off clearly proves.
Absolute utter mercenaries

Many thanks

I am currently awaiting hip surgery and am in a lot of pain, also extensive nerve damage so I have zero balance. We got back from Poland at midnight on Monday 23rd March seeing me struggling badly off the plane the ground staff Couldn't do enough for me. The kindness, thoughtfulness and courtesy by all of them was flawless. I would like to say many, many thanks to you all it makes a huge difference.

What an awful place to fly from

What an awful place to fly from. We got there in plenty of time to go through security, but security just doesn’t seem to care about the fact the clock is ticking and you need to catch a flight. We spent well over an hour waiting in line to go through security. There were people asking to pass us and others, as they were going to miss there flights. When we eventually got to the front, I asked someone why it was taking so long. Her answer was, not enough security machines and too many people. In March!!! I get that if it’s the high peak holiday season, but not now. I understand security is there for a reason, and I expect to be held up, but this was far too long. I couldn’t help looking on at the security staff being deflated and sick of being there, with so many people concerned about missing there flights. Come on Newcastle please get your act together.

Arrived from Dublin this morning

Arrived from Dublin this morning. Straight through the airport. Bags arrived quickly. But what I really came to say was how helpful DAVE the driver of the cursity bus driver was.
He was extremely cheerful and chatty, helping us by making sure we were dropped off closer to our car than we asked for. I have some mobility problems so this was so helpful for me especially.
Thank you DAVE.

Dreadful airport. Worst in the UK if not Europe

Dirty, litter/ridden, disgusting, broken-down, expensive rip off. I could go on but it is the worst airport I have ever visited - and I have seen a lot. As someone from the North East it is a sad embarrassment that this is the first impression people get of this lovely part of the UK. I have written to them twice but get fobbed off with platitudes and nothing changes. I spoke to one of the Border Force guys last time I was passing through a few weeks ago and when I asked why it’s so bad, he just raised his eyes to heaven as if to say…..join the queue….I’ve heard it so many times before.

Possibly Britain’s most depressing airport

Possibly Britain’s most depressing airport. I appreciate that maybe I use it out of season, but…closing most of the food and drink outlets after 7pm gives a ‘peak-Covid’ vibe. For those outlets that are still open, it’s just pure gouging - almost £9 for a pint of lager in an echoey warehouse (looking at you, Tap+Brew). On the plus sides, security is super quick, and the Metro link into the city centre is beyond reproach. But if you’re departing from Newcastle, it’s just miserable…

Lovely staff this morning (at stupid O’clock) - the young lad searching bags at security and then the polite, courteous, excellent waiter in Aster & Thyme. Absolutely 5 star service from him especially (tall, slim, trendy, moustache) - your boss needs to see this!

The place has ZERO atmosphere

The place has ZERO atmosphere, no music not even slightly, nothing.

Attended as a family with two under 11 kids and the place has no food whatsoever for children, not even nuggets&chips (which I don’t think its food either) but least give kids options to select something the know and like.
We went for lunch time, just after 2pm and the place its horrendous, no staff to ask anything to, the buffet table a mess with stains and food scattered all over it, like a bomb has just gone off – probably not the best analogy considering the place…..

No drinks are really included unless you want to drink warmish tiger beer that taste like sparkling water or wines that are weaker than juice…..anything else that is a proper drink is extra, which the lounge conveniently withheld from clients when making the booking in the first place.
No music, no atmosphere no staff to help with me,

Only food available when you there are soup, rice and curry……who the hell eats curry and rice when booking a lounge. Cheaper to stop at the local chippy……cheeses that look lie plastic and crackers that have been there soooooooooooooo long that have dried inside their own packages.

Worst lounge in UK, and I travel twice a month, absolutely joke of a place!!!!!!

Had an amazing and professional flight BUT…

Had an amazing and professional flight with British Airways. Even without a passport check, our baggage arrived at the claims at the same time as it took me to walk from the plane to the exit.

Newcastle Airport charges £5 for pickup and drop off. They make it impossible to stop or wait anywhere near on the roads. They also have 0 alternatives from the city centre.

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.
Was questioned by one security officer about my presence at the airport because, in her own words, “I saw you yesterday too” yeah it was because I came to Newcastle for a show and immediately left on the following day because I had no reason to stay!
Truly unbelievable. Never coming back. Treating me like a suspect even tho I wasn’t doing anything illegal, just walk around and go to the toilet. Or is there a limit to the number of times one can visit a toilet?
This experience gave me anxiety because I can’t speak English very well and Newcastle accent is hard to understand. It also ruined the good mood I was into after seeing the show

Drop Off Charges

This review isn’t about the actual internal part of this airport but about the ridiculous charge of £5 to drop people off who are using the airport.
You literally have no choice because if you stop on the route into the airport you get fined £100.
This is one rip off of an airport especially as the drop off takes literally 2 minutes.

Poor parking

Gradually increasing parking for drop off every few months. Now there is no free drop off. Supposed 1 hour free parking at callerton parkway but no sign of this. No signs in the airport for the free bus to callerton parkway. A place ran by donkeys

Works OK as an airport but the main aim appears to be making as much money as possible from passengers getting dropped off and picked up. whilst trying to engineer good publicity, by anouncing a free parking area, (that happens to be around a mile away from the airport itself), served by a free shuttle bus service, (of which no details have been published as to capacity, room for cases etc) running half hourly. which will be woeful inadequate for their self proclaimed expected "record numbers of passengers". Bearing in mind that if passengers have to be "shuttled" to an aircraft at a stand away from the building this single flight often requires two busses alone and that's without cases !

Could be better

Dislike: prices and future prices hikes for parking, smelly toilets, no free water fountain (Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin Faro have these pass security), no quiet waiting area - you are forced to sit in one space or small dotted aroung seats surrounded by pubs/shops or use very quiet area with linited seats on way to your gate (it's tiny) .

Like: quick security check and boarding, local airport.
