I wholeheartedly recommend Nicholas for basic self-defence training, as well as Krav Maga, boxing and grappling.
I was initially a bit worried about having a male trainer, but Nicholas is honestly one of the most considerate trainers I’ve met. I feel completely safe training with him, and I’m also happy for him to train my 7-year-old daughter.
Training with a male coach also makes sense to me, because realistically most potential assailants are more likely to be male, so it helps to get used to that dynamic in a safe setting.
I was also self-conscious about training in the park at first, but after the first session I felt fine. Actually, it’s lovely being outside among the trees, taking time to become stronger and more technical.
Nicholas teaches the techniques properly, but also adapts the sessions to you- whether that’s punching, escaping headlocks, or whatever you naturally respond to better. He has a very natural way of making you realise that even as a smaller woman, with the right technique, you can still be very effective.
I also really like that he gives small reminders throughout the session about awareness and how to feel more prepared in everyday situations. I find those weekly reminders genuinely useful.

I worked with Nicholas in person to help build my confidence in self-defense. It was something I had always wanted to do as a women who lived in London. Nicholas is a fantastic coach, who didn't just teach you how to defend yourself, he also focused on the 'before' (i.e if you feel uncomfortable or feel like you're being followed - how to not fall into the 'freeze' mode)
This was really helpful to me because I have always been someone who 'freezes' when in a dangerous situation. So doing the role play and learning how to not freeze was great.
I'd highly recommend Nicholas if you're a woman wanting to learn self defense and build confidence.
