Dog Bed
Ordered a dog bed (personalized) for a Christmas gift. Item received in November. I opened the box to verify personalization, not realizing that would not be the problem. When I took the bed from the box, the insert was too small for the cover. Called Orvis. Problem could be fixed readily and the bed ( personalized) would be received by Friday. It was not an option to send a larger insert. The bed didn't arrive Friday. Called Orvis. Not possible to expect delivery until the following week. Offered a $25 gift card, really. Emailed Orvis. Bed was shipped UPS last Friday, delivery tomorrow. No overnight delivery, as was stated in the first customer service call. Along the lines of communication, someone at Orvis decided against that. Each time a different customer service person has heard my situation and each time it's a different reply. Unbelievable.
Low Quality - Poor Business Practices - Expensive to Return
Recently I placed my first - and last - order with Orvis. 1. Placing the order was reasonably easy. 2. They debited my account for the amount of the purchase (within minutes of the order being placed), before they even confirmed the order. Standard business practice would be to bill when the order is shipped, not when it's placed. 3. The order arrived on time. 4. The material on the sweaters was so thin that they were unusable even in only moderately cold weather. And these were not cheap sweaters, just shy of 100 bucks a pop. 5. They charged me $16.00 to return their substandard merchandise. I buy lots of stuff online, and I've never been charged for a return before. And I won't be charged for one again - at least not by these guys. I strongly encourage you to take your business elsewhere.
Terrible customer service
I ordered a sweater in a sale. I received a confirmation of the order but no product after two weeks. I enquired about the item and was told it is no longer available.
However, the item is in fact available online. I believe Orvis simply no longer wanted to honor the price promised me. I am waiting for a response from them.
Update 5-Jan-2020:
After a couple of additional phone calls Orvis did finally agree that the item is available and that they would ship it to me at the sale price. In the end, they came through but only after I wasted time doing their job.
The product quality isn't good enough to overcome the poor customer service, in my opinion.
Do not buy Balfour coats at Orvis
I am in Europe in December after having bought an Orvis Barbour Classic Beaufort
coat with zippered liner vest and hood for over $700
including tax. I was promised by the Orvis salesman this would keep me warm in Belgium and Luxembourg for the 75th anniversary Battle of the Bulge trip in December. Was he ever wrong.
DO NOT buy the Balfour jackets or coats thinking they will keep you warm in cold weather. I am freezing my tush off even with the zipper in cold weather vest. Two other gentlemen are on the trip with the same coats and are cold also. One man stopped wearing his and switched to a down coat. This Balfour coat is totally inadequate for anything under 50 degrees Fahrenheit. In rain, the cold just seeps thru the canvas and is worse.
The coat looks great in the catalog and felt good in the store, but is totally inadequate for outdoor cold weather. The outside of the coat is cold to touch in cold weather. The cold seems to bore right thru the coat to your body.
Don’t make the mistake I did buying this expensive Orvis Balfour Beaufort Classic Coat.

For a company that cares about their customers I have received No Customer Service.
Ordered a Sweatshirt but was too itchy and requested a return. Looked on their web site and was instructed to take it to Anglers in Boise. I drove to Anglers to have them tell me they do not accept returns. I then called Customer No Service and was told that they would pay for the return postage. When the gift card came not only was I charged for the return postage they also deducted the original postage. I have now spent approximately $28.00 dollars in shipping and still need to return for smaller size. I will try to find a friend that I can give it to for Xmas because I do not intend to spend addition money on postage.
I sent a detailed email to Orvis explaining the situation and she sent back a very nice email wanting to know what she could do to help! I think my email was very detailed that I was very unhappy that I have spent $28.00 dollars in postage and still need to return it.
Now I have received a store credit instead if placing the return credit back on my credit card!
I will never buy another product through Orvis.
Please note: Their products are quality but there return policy needs considerable help. Contact Amazon and check out how easy a return can be!

I purchased a Hydros SL III fly reel and Hydros BASS line and between Steven Palmer and Sales Associate Keagan I was very pleased with their professionalism and knowledge. I am new to fly fishing and they made me feel great about what I was venturing in to. Steven even took me in the back lot to show me how the different weight lines on my pole would feel. I will be back for the fly tie class and fly casting classes. Thank you both!

Orvis plays games with their shipping
Orvis plays games with their shipping. I have spent a whopping 5k in the last 18 months and notice when you pay for next day, it never comes next day. They make you feel warm and fuzzy about saving money but they give different excuses why you don’t get the product next day. The one I particularly love is, “It was held due to suspicious fraud concerns”. If you speak with two different agents you’ll get two different reasons why your order didnt ship. Kasi in customer service is a REAL charmer!

I placed an order on Orvis.com for 3 items for $ 350.00. Exactly, ten minutes later I changed my mind on a pair of jeans in my order and decided to substitute two pairs of the ultimate khaki's, therefore (increasing my order another $50). When I called customer service I was told that my order was already being packed for shipping, ten minutes after I ordered it, and I couldn't change the order any longer. I was told I would have to order the new items, pay $19.95 for shipping and then pay another $6.95 to return the pants I didn't want.
Amazon doesn't pack and ship in ten minutes, but a company that charges 5 times the amount for shipping and takes a week longer for the order to arrive has cracked the logistic code? Ensuring I end up paying an additional $25.00 in shipping. Also, how on earth does it cost $20.00 to ship items to you and $7.00 to ship items back to Orvis when you change your mind? Is the trip back to Orvis the slow way? Is that why it takes 3 weeks to get a refund because it ships via the well known New York to Timbuktu to Orvis HQ route?
Deliver cheaper products instead of what you paid for
I have now had several orders online where Orvis substituted cheaper good for what I actually ordered. As this happened several times, this makes you wonder if they are trying to scam customers on purpose
Orvis won’t stand behind their products
I purchased a fly rod online from Orvis. I had great experiences with the product but it broke with surprisingly low impact. Fishing around the Telluride area, a buddy and I were going to move half a mile up river by car. Not wanting to break our 4 piece rods down we put them into the cab of the SUV as we had done countless times before. Reels in the back and rod tips between the driver and passenger. A poorly placed deer caused an abrupt need for the breaks at low speed and out rods slid to the windshield. His Reddington touched the windshield and was fine. My Orvis did the same and the tip section broke. Orvis customer service transferred me to their fishing department where they would do nothing for me. They assured me that the new model’s tip section would not fit on my older model and that they couldn’t fix it. I pushed the issue asking why they wouldn’t stand by their product and that I didn’t want a free rod, I just wanted them to fix it or replace the tip section only. Still they assured me nothing could be done. As a guy who has a lot of Orvis gear I was disappointed in the brand. Orvis turned me into a Sage and Simms man.

I ordered a clearwater 9ft 4pc and did not fully understand the ad, and Orvis responded to my comment and has 100% rectified the issue, I am totally satisfied with the outcome of my shopping experience. My comment was posted on 06/05/19. My only suggestion to shopping on a computer is that if you use magnifying lenses to thread a fly make sure you do the same when ordering. Orvis was no way wrong on their website. Thank you and I will continue to shop with their website.
Expensive dog bed but overall good value.
Ordered a dog bed a 6-7 weeks ago and have to say my dogs love it. Delivery was good given we had it embroidered too. Expensive product but given the fact it looks good and it’s super comfortable and my dogs love it then it actually seems good value. I’m looking at ordering a second bed for my dogs so I don’t have to keep moving this one as they’re reluctant to sleep in their old bed now.
EDIT. I’ve since ordered a second bed in matching colours and the dogs (who used to always try to get on the sofas) now take themselves to either bed. It’s taken us a while to get used to them being in their beds. Normally when they disappeared they were up to no good and being naughty. Now we have always found they disappear to their beds. Very good products. Expensive but given that our dogs love them it was easily money well spent.
Honestly one of the worst online…
Honestly one of the worst online retailers you could possibly select. They sent me the wrong pants, only the issue was their ordering process or rather the software they use to process the orders. What you see on line and what it put in your cart are two different things. When you receive the wrong item and call customer service, you will speak to a person who is all about defending Orvis and making sure you realize that you got it wrong, and you will have to pay to send it back. They make the exchange process SUPER confusing and are RUDE to you on the phone when you call to request an exchange. Use a coupon? Oh well, you just lost that. Did you have free shipping on your first order, the one you need to return? Oh well, no free shipping on the exchange. Hey Orvis, you really need to GO OUT OF BUSINESS NOW. SUPER pathetic customer service.

Have things changed?
I purchased a 1970's bamboo fly rod used, with serial numbers that had become mis-colored (the background went white) over the years. I contacted customer support in 2016 and was given the rod history and was told I could send it in to the rod repair shop to have the rod inspected and the serial numbers re-inked. I did so, and had a wonderful customer service experience. The numbers were re-done and a few other problems the rod staff identified with the rod were fixed. It was returned to me in a very reasonable period of time. I even received a personalized snail-mail letter that described the services performed on my rod and the prices (very reasonable) charged. I suspect the rod shop that handles bamboo is "old school" and markedly different from the majority of Orvis' mass merchandising operation. However, I just recently called and asked about customer service for a second-hand rod - one of the new glass rods currently sold by Orvis. I was told that they are no longer accepting rods for repair that are not under original warranty. I don't know what would happen now if I contacted them today for service on a second-hand bamboo rod, but the service I received in 2016 was excellent and very different from what I just now experienced with the glass rod.

Called customer service for the options with broken encounter fly/spin combo and was advised that I could bring it for shipping for replacement to Yonkers Store. The store associate gave me the attitude but accepted the rod. It was shipped to Virginia Orvis Center and 20 days after I called Orvis Customer Service more 8 times- combo still in Virginia without movement in the warehouse inspite multiple promises to ship it each time I call. Orvis?- never again!!!

Great products and fast shipping
I was hesitant to order from Orvis based on their reviews around the web, but my experience was fantastic. I ordered a YETI Rambler bottle cap from them and the shipping was fast and free.
I will order more from Orvis in the future. Great products and great shipping!
overpriced cash grab
They tout themselves as being pro conservation, but they will spam your mailbox with catalogs and sell your information to other groups who will do the same. doesnt sound very ecologically minded to me.
If you must purchase from them, spend 20 minutes with customer support getting yourself added to the "do not rent" list, and hope that it actually happens.
WTH Orvis......
ORVIS CHARGES $168 FOR A COTTON/POLY/RAYON BLEND JACKET.
Do I need to say anything else?
It's cotton. And polyester. And rayon.
For that kind of money, I expect a jacket to transport me to a virtual world where I'm Indiana Jones' love interest and fighting Nazis in the desert.

I just had reason to contact your customer services on livechat. At 9.30 pm on a Sunday evening I was very surprised to be able to check the status of an online order. Jamie from the USA was very helpful and able to deal with my query promptly. I am always happy with my clothing orders from Orvis but really must compliment you on your excellent customer service!
