Needs updating, but nice place.

The hotel and spa were nice, but needed updating in places. The conservatory where we had lunch could do with a refurbishment as the carpet was pretty worn and stained. The spa is lovely, but the flooring round the pool had started degrading and stuck to your feet, the slippers provided were not to be worn in the pool area so it was pretty awful having little stones sticking in your feet. Also the area around the steps was very grubby with water (the water station is there) and hairs on the floor, not a place you really want to be barefoot! The cups provided for the water were pathetic little while cones of paper, which crumpled easily and held hardly any water, it's so important to stay hydrated when you are using heat treatments, this really isnt good enough! The jacuzzi is not great, the jets are only aimed at mid back there were no others, just the one all the way round in the same area. The steam room, sauna and pool were lovely, and the sunbeds were really comfy. The lunch was great, the chicken club ciabatta was very tasty and the staff were lovely too. The highlight of my day was the spa treatment, Katie looked very professional and was extremely good at her job. I was really relaxed after my treatment 😌. However my husband had an OK - his words - hot stone massage with Sylvia, she had long hair past her shoulders which should have been tied back. I've no idea where she trained but as a former beauty lecturer she wouldn't have passed her course like that, very unprofessional indeed. I was giving them a mediocre 3 stars, but my treatment with Katie was so good they got 4.

Food a big disappointment

80 christmas party
The room was over full too many people for a small space.
The tables looked nice.
It started at 7pm the food was slow to come out the first course very bland Luke warm soup the nicest bit was the bread roll. The main was like a micro wave meal bland with cheap plastic food. The desert was a piece of very dry cake and a blob of synthetic cream. The music was very late to start. But the singer was entertaining and we had a good dance. For the money the food was a very big disappointment.

Lovely Staff, Okay hotel

I think the people who wrote the review before me either got up on the wrong side of the bed or thought York was some magical place.

Staff were lovely, in both the fat abbot, hotel and the Spa. Honestly couldn’t fault the them.

The room was little dated and could do with a few updates, but then again, the building is about 185 years old…

Side note - if you are you thinking about taking the buss (As the people who left the review before me did) please note it does pass through 3 villages and a town before hits Escrick, so may be busy!

Happy travels people!

Wow!

Wow!! A hotel spa in a beautiful setting £228.00 for one night B&B 6km away from York centre seemed perfect !
WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!
A prime example of "Rip off Britain ".
We booked this weeks ago after looking at the website and needing an overnight stay near York for a surprise meal for my sisters 60th birthday .
We arrived early and were already aware we were unable to check in until 14.00hrs .We wanted to leave our car and look around York until book in time .At first glance after using the downstairs communal toilet facilities it seemed oldie worldy, a little back dated but appeared clean. We were told that the bus that had a stop nearby was every 15 minutes ,we waited 45 minutes for the overpacked double decker to arrive and had to squeeze onto the top deck for the journey. After going around York and having a late breakfast at Gillygate (brilliant place ) we headed back via Uber as the bus journey there wasn't the best a reasonable £11.92 got us back .
On arrival at 14.00hrs at the Parsonage we were greeted by a young receptionist who was more interested in admiring her long false nails than engaging with us ,no smile, no conversation wearing scuffy jeans and scruffy jumper .WOW ! what a first lasting impression she left with us .Another girl void of any facial expression handed us our room card and swiftly pointed us in the direction of our room .We were greeted by 2 single beds in a shoddy ,tired room with a view of a broken fence and cigarette butts from our old tired single glazed French windows with rusty handles and hinges .After this disappointment we decided to check out the spa facilities. We approached the young receptionist to ask where the spa was ,to our shock we were told it wasn't in the same building but 2 doors away in a separate building and we were required to HIRE a bathrobe, towel and slippers .At nearly £30.00 extra for my husband and I for each visit we thought was outrageous!!We also required a pound coin each .We asked if it could be charged to the room or could we pay by card for tokens ! "You will have to go to the garage 2 miles away to see if they do cash back otherwise I can't help you !! After rummaging around we found our shopping tokens in the car and headed off on the outside walk in the cold to the spa .After arriving at the spa we were advised that to access the spa you were required to walk half naked from the changing rooms to the spa itself .NO THANKS !! idea abandoned. We then decided to check out the hotel bar !!! We returned to the non engaging facially void expressionless receptionist and asked where the hotel bar was .There isn't one in this building its the building 3 doors away !! REALLY !!! We had one drink in a bar with no atmosphere and decided to shower ,change and go into York earlier than planned .
After taking a shower in a less than desirable bathroom stood in a bath that didn't drain ,trying not to slip in the 3 inches of water from the shower (slip hazard )we headed into York at a cost from the Uber of £15.98 ..
We salvaged our day with a lovely birthday meal for my sister at La Piazza Antica and at 11pm rang an Uber ...After being cancelled on three times and an hour stood in the cold we were picked up and dropped off at a staggering £30.00 !!
We utilised the sparce tea coffee and milk provided and after waiting 15 minutes for the kettle to boil we went to sleep in our single beds (double room ) questionable??
We ate our substandard breakfast in the tired worn out dining room and left .
Now we are not snobs by any stretch of the imagination, we both work hard and are in our 50s we thought this would be a nice treat but it was awful. If you want to waste your hard earned money well you can't say you weren't warned .However ,while we still have breath in our bodies we won't ever stay in a UK hotel again .You're better off staying in a travel lodge or Premier Inn and eating out .I must also mention that on our return home my husband has been suffering from a fungal foot infection that the pharmacist said was from dirty facilities ( never suffered before )
Joke hotel ,Joke price ,Joke facilities, Joke staff
Rip off Britain at its finest .
It should be rated one star

I’m still waiting for a call back after 4 days
the receptionist was going to speak to the housekeeper who cleaned our room .
My beautiful necklace from my boyfriend for valentine’s day disappeared from our room.
I never wore the necklace, and It was on the bed side cabinet.
We searched everywhere in the room
So disappointed that I haven’t received a call back, they have had our money and don’t care

Poor …

After a fabulous time last year for our group Christmas party ,we booked again for the 80s themed night.
Very disappointed with the meal .
First course was soup , which was served in coffee mugs with a teaspoon.
The main course, a roast turkey dinner was bland , looked unappealing and more like a microwave meal , and dessert, I have no words for . It looked disgusting, and was more like mousse than cheesecake. Presentation was severly lacking with all courses.
No coffee or mince pies like last year , bar prices varied depending on who served you. and the room was full to bursting. Next year we will choose to go elsewhere.

Attended a lunch with a car club last November and the food wasn't good and service was slow. We gave it a 2nd chance this month and it was worse than the previous one. Food was cold, meat was tough and dry, soggy roast potatoes. We will not be going again.

Just what you need for a relaxing…

Just what you need for a relaxing break.
Suprise night away with Spa treatment from husband. The hotel is impressive at first sight and has 6 acres . It also has a gastro pub , spa facilities, and a beautiful church. The room was warm and cosy, not modern but clean, and had everything we required. The gentleman checking us in was lovely and really helpful even when we couldn't recall our car registration( senior moment). All staff friendly . Ate at the Fat Abbott, which was nice. Food is warm and tasty. There was a wedding on both days that looked lovely.
Breakfast was good. there were plenty of cooked items and all hot.
The Spa staff were very friendly and informative. The site was lovely and clean. Facilities were great. Steam room, aromotherapy room, sauna , jacuzzi, and swimming pool. Our treatment was for couples, and we were informed about the treatment. This was the most relaxing treatment we have had . So thank you, Sylvia and her colleague, for this experience. We will be back.
Highly recommend the Parsonage and the Spa.

We spent a lovely weekend at the Parsonage hotel and spa, the spa facilities were excellent, we also enjoyed our cooked breakfast the following morning the staff were all polite friendly and helpful, the only negative point I had was the layout in the room making it hard to view the TV properly with the position it was in, but I would definitely stay there again

Unprofessional

I booked this hotel for me and my 12 year old daughter to stay as she loves swimming. Once I had paid I got a confirmation and it stated that under 18’s can’t use the pool. Hotels.com didn’t state this and when I asked the hotel I had this reply.

I apologise for the disappointment, when booking our hotel on hotels.com underneath the policies section it states that under 18’s are unable to have access to the spa and the facilities including the pool.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

When you put in a search engine for a hotel with a pool, does everyone read the policies section to see if 12 year olds can use a swimming pool.

Cancelled the booking after that reply.

Exceptional Hotel

Just returned from a two night stay. Everything from the rooms, food and staff was exceptional. Every single member of staff was friendly and always pleasant, a credit to the hotel. So happy that we booked the same weekend for next year.

Highly recommended

i took a part of 17 Arts Society members to stay at this hotel as we explored beautiful Yorkshire. The setting was peaceful, the welcome outstanding and the service excellent. We had elicious meals served quickly and cheerfully.
The Spa was an added bonus. i was most impressed when the lady manager came on board the coach to say 'goodbye and thank you for coming'

As wedding photographers

As wedding photographers, we had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at the Parsonage Hotel and Spa. The venue is truly a hidden gem, nestled in 6 acres of stunning formal gardens and woodland, yet only a short drive away from the bustling city of York. The Parsonage Hotel is a beautiful Victorian building, built in the early 1840s, and has managed to preserve many of its original features. This gives the hotel a sense of timeless elegance, making it the perfect backdrop for a fairy tale wedding.
The Parsonage Hotel and Spa offers a range of facilities for weddings, including two high-quality restaurants, The Fat Abbot and The Cloisters Spa, as well as elegant lounges and a beautiful conservatory. The hotel's experienced staff were able to accommodate all of the couple's needs, providing us with a seamless and stress-free experience. The Fat Abbot restaurant, in particular, offers a unique and hearty dining experience, making it the perfect place for the wedding breakfast.
The hotel is also equipped with modern amenities, such as an electric car charging facility, which is a great convenience for guests traveling from afar. The staff at the Parsonage Hotel and Spa were extremely helpful and accommodating, and made sure that everything ran smoothly on the big day. We were particularly impressed with the services of the experienced Master of Ceremonies, who guided the couple through the wedding proceedings and offered advice on the choice of menus and wines.
Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the Parsonage Hotel and Spa as a wedding venue. The beautiful gardens, elegant lounges, and high-quality dining options make it the perfect place for a truly magical wedding day. The staff were incredibly helpful, and we would highly recommend this venue to any couple looking for a fairy tale wedding.
Kindest regards
The Kensington Photographers
