Great quality. Dog friendly, in a really luxurious setting

We dined there on the last evening of our holiday, and were so delighted with everything about the hotel. We were allowed to have our little dog dine with us, which felt special and the manager Alex Agnew welcomed us like friends. The waiters and bar staff were attentive, the food was very decently priced but most of all, the setting was really luxurious. Velvet seats, stunning decor, beautiful table linen, the works. Fabulous.

Poor Service and Overall Experience

We had a reservation for Easter Sunday lunch at 12:30 PM at the Penventon Park Hotel. We arrived at 12:00 PM and were seated in the dog-friendly area at 12:10 PM, where we were informed that the waiter would be notified of our arrival.

Despite several staff members passing our table, we were not acknowledged for quite some time and waiters thought we were waiting for the Spa as the dog-friendly area is right beside the Spa Entrance. It wasn’t until 12:40 PM—30 minutes after being seated—that someone approached us to discuss drinks and the food menu. At that point, we were incorrectly told that our drink and food orders had already been taken.

We placed our drink order and then waited an additional 15 minutes before anyone returned to take our food order. For starters, we had the prawn cocktail, which was very enjoyable.

We tried to order another drink to go alongside our main however however as the waiters were under 18 years of age, they couldn’t take our order and had to find someone age appropriate to do this.

As well as this, the main courses (lamb roast and beef roast) were disappointing - The lamb roast had a very small portion of meat, both dishes featured soggy potatoes, and the only vegetable we found enjoyable was the roasted carrots. The rest of the vegetables didn’t taste quite right.

After finishing our meal, we requested the bill and had to wait another 15 minutes before going to the bar to settle it ourselves because no waiter came back to take our payment.

Overall, the service experience was poor, and unfortunately, we did not feel it was appropriate to leave a tip - something we would typically always do.

We were recommended the Penventon Hotel and had high hopes going in. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations in terms of food quality and overall service. Unfortunately this is not somewhere we’ll be returning to or recommending to others.

Spa visit

Spa, we visited the spa today for a few hours for a swim and sauna before Sunday lunch. Have to say £18 for entry to the spa was grossly overpriced for the experience, spa very dated, dirty and the facilities below average,on top of that you had to pay extra for a towel! The spa needs a good clean and refresh, doesn’t look like it’s had any money spent in it in 20 years. Would not be visiting again! Sunday lunch thou was lovely.

Perfect hotel

This was our first visit to this wonderful little hotel as soon as we arrived to the hotel the staff were fantastic after checking in we were shown to our room the room was very large clean and tidy, soon after we soon went down to the bar lots of drinks to choose from, but I could not believe how many cocktails they had on the menu after quite a few cocktails, we soon made our way to the restaurant the restaurant menu was great the restaurant staff were so helpful and very professional in every way possible, I got to say the food was absolutely wonderful the food was seasoned perfectly and looked so elegant on the plate, the wine list was great lots to choose from.

I got to say come prepared to other hotels my wife and I have stayed at the staff are brilliant the chefs are outstanding, in the morning we made the mistake of arriving in the breakfast area 30 minutes late but the staff soon help us out and gave us a lovely continental breakfast which they did not have to do , I will highly recommend this hotel because of all of this my wife I are looking to book this hotel again very soon , thank you to you all for such a wonderful time it made our stay worth while

Kind regards Ketut and Ian

Very disgruntled.

Very poor service in the Bar area. Only one person trying to take orders and make drinks with one other person running around, trying to look busy. Waited patiently at the bar for 30 mins, then gave up. Only wanted 2 coffees. Also noticed very impatient people jumping what must have been an obvious queue.

Travesty

We went to the Penventon park hotel , having high expectations, having eaten many times previously when it was a 3 star hotel .
The table layout was very nice but the cutlery quality is poor and not befitting a 4 star hotel , frankly it smacked of being well past its use by date . There was no salt in the pot on the table . The waitress was very over bearing and trying too hard . Although pleasant and polite we heard “no problem”every other sentence . She then went back to her station shook her long hair out of her hair band run her fingers through it a number of times and tied it back up . She then went on to serve tables without washing her hands . Having literally just putting down my cutlery she swooped in and removed our plates ( I still had food on my plate ) she did ask if we were finished but no time to react before plates were gone . After finishing our meal we went out to the smoking area with our drinks . We were then chased out by a member of staff for payment of our bill , which I found very humiliating as we have eaten there numerous times and previously had works Christmas functions there . We then went in to settle the bill and order another drink . The drink was served in a very warm glass and the volume and language of a couple at the bar was not what I expected in a supposedly 4 star hotel . Judging by comments from other clientele it is not quite what they expected neither . So very disappointed on my latest visit , it was a much better atmosphere and experience when it was a 3 star hotel !

A Marvelous Hotel with everything You Want or Need

My wife and I just spent the last week at this hotel celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Their staff looked after us so well nothing was too much trouble. The room we were in was large and extremely comfortable and the room staff made sure that everything was as we wanted it. The restaurant is superb. The skills of the kitchen staff are wonderful ever part of every meal is cooked and presented to perfection. The front of house staff cannot do enough to make sure that each meal is exactly as you want it and make it a really special occasion. The bar has a good selection of drinks and again the bar staff are excellent. The reception staff are always willing to do what they can at any time.
My wife and I cannot recommend this hotel, the restaurant and the staff highly enough.
