Sellers Beware

After the great disappointment of eBay in the UK we looked at all alternative ecommerce platforms. Play.com in the UK was one of those we selected.

6 months up front shop fees - OK we paid. Waited and waited for the so called account manager to contact us - never did, ever - we constantly had to call them and push to get the account up and running.

Started listing products, which is a pain as the process is by way of Excel spreadsheets, first create the product in THEIR catalog, then the images have to be activated and uploaded by them separately. Takes ages and never seems right.

The product information page content is very limited and is insufficient to get all details across.

As to sales, well what a disappointment - none - nada - zilch - even using their free marketing tools - what a waste of effort, time and money Play.com is.

We will not be renewing our seller subscription due to the total lack of sales and due to the cost (our internal cost) of listing our products there.

Play.com is a joke at this time and the negative feedback left by sellers on Trust Pilot is entirely justified as far as Play.com is concerned.

Seller Beware - Play.com Looks Good, Play.com Sounds Good, but is a total waste of any seller's time.

Abysmal

Ordered an Xbox game 3 months ago which was "in stock" with a firm called Mediagiant. Then I receive an email stating that it is out of stock but will be delivered by 30 Dec 2099. I wrote immediately to highlight that the date provided is 85 years away but I hear nothing for almost 3 months when I get an email to say the game has been despatched. Surprise surprise it never arrives. I ask for a refund and attempt to leave feedback on this charade but find I cannot as 60 days have expired since I left my order. They are thus protected from negative feedback having waited more than 60 days to inform me of what was going on. 3 months later I am chasing a refund and cannot even leave negative feedback! Disgraceful.

Would never use again, no help with fraud or stolen account and money

Over a year ago, someone hacked into my account changed my email and pass word, and took £80.00 for my bank for x-box vouchers.

Customer service was awful! First lady a spoke to i told her no one in my house owns a X-Box and she just keep asking this over and over, then said there was nothing they could do about it, and told me there was no issue with this happening to other customers..... Second lady I spoke too was not able to help me with getting my money back, explained they had to cancel my account and i needed to set up a new one, they where unable to transfer any Play Points over so i would lose all of them, and told this has happened to other customers (despite first member of staff saying other wise)

They basically refused to help, lucky for me i bank with NatWest who just refunded the stolen funds, i filled out a form and they sorted out the issue.

Used to be good

The service and quality of Play has gone downhill, used to order a lot and used them over Amazon, however, Play just can't compare to Amazon now.Unfortunately will no longer be buying from here again.

Play.com customer services

I bought a game Rock Band 3 from VERYRAREDVDs on play.com at £31.18 eventually they provided the wrong game Rock Band 1 worth only £8.98.
They wouldn't answer emails I couldn't get an address to return the game as they had sent it through amazon.
When i did get a reply to emails they didn't even read mine and answered to something different.

I thought I was covered by Play.com but it seems they actually don't do customer services.
I sent emails to customercare@play.com,and play@mailgb.custhelp.com
I was always told we will get back to you in 24 to 48 hours, a week later and nothing.

I was told by their online chat to come back on 29th and they would escalate the claim, by this time I had got an address and had proof they had received my item.
Your item with reference KF947345851GB was delivered from our SUNDERLAND Delivery Office on 29/07/14 .

I thought well if they escalate the claim then veryraredvds will refund the money quickly.

But no I was told i will have to give a few days to process the return, he didn't take that long to take my money and run.

So my advise is :
1. Don't use Play.com
2. Never buy from Veryraredvds
3.don't bother to use customer services
4. only buy if you want to give away money and get nothing.
5. have your headache pills very close by

What a loss of a once very good sales site and the loss of great customer services when you could call their belfast office

Diabolical in every aspect

To date i have ordered three items from these clowns.

The first two orders were for items that were showing on the web site as available but not actually in stock. There was no communication about the items, the payment was refunded after about a week with no reasons given. I had to call them in order to ascertain the reason for the cancellation of the order.

The third item i ordered arrived within 4 days but was not the item i ordered. I have e mailed play.com who tell me it is not their problem and i should contact the seller (who is not them apparently!!!). The seller will not answer e-mails or pick up the phone. 6 weeks have gone by with numerous attempts to contact both involved parties without a successful outcome, i still have a laptop charger that is not compatible with my laptop and i still have no refund or any meaningful dialogue with play.com

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Awful

I ordered a book, the release date kept being put back but instead of keeping me informed I had to keep asking them what was happening. By the time the book was available I had changed my card. Instead of asking for a new payment card, my order was cancelled. I updated my card details and asked for my order to be reinstated, but they refused and said I had to make a new order. 3 months and a complete waste of time, they didn't even apologize.Got my book elsewhere.

Downhill since Rakuten stepped in

I've been a play.com customer for over 10 years now (my first order was placed back in Dec of 2002),and everytime I came to this website, I would have a great experience. In fact, if I found a product which cost a little more elsewhere, I would seriously consider buying from play.com simply because I trusted them and they would always provide a great service.

However, ever since Rakuten have stepped in (bought play.com?) the service has been a complete disappointment.

My most recent attempt at buying from here was an order placed on the 21st of July. Once I had completed the order, I got the standard confirmation page where it stated that the payment will complete within 24hours and if there are any issues, they would contact me immediately to let me know etc.

48 hours after placing the order, I check the status and it's still "processing at the warehouse" which is described as being a status when the payment is still processing. So I decided to contact them instead to see what's going on. I'd already checked my online banking to see if the payment had infact been taken and it had not (funding was not an issue at all) But when I spoke to an online advisor, they insisted that the payment had been taken and they would contact the seller to push things forward.

The payment now shows as being taken on my online banking (after such a long delay!) and I've been informed that my order has been dispatched (email came through today). Apparently I can expect it between the 24th July (today? Lol) and the 28th July.

Compare this with someone like Amazon (even with their marketplace sellers) I often find they overestimate the delivery time (to set better expectations and will often deliver well within that time (if they estimate that I'll get the delivery on a Friday for example, I can realistically expect it to actually arrive by Thursday, and even Wednesday; but I'd it doesn't, I won't be able disappointed because they have set that expectation).

Anyway, hopefully I'll have item by the 28th (and won't have to return it!!) and going forward, I will seriously reconsider using play.com again in the future.

Due to this decline, I simply cannot recommend anyone to buy from them (which is the opposite of what would have said, before Rakuten stepped in).

ridiculous

Ordered an Xbox 360 a few Christmases ago. Waited two weeks and it turned out my Xbox was stolen by a delivery man from yodel. Told me they would give me a refund, waited and waited until I finally got a refund in March. I ordered the Xbox at the start of December. Poor service and u cannot get put through to the manager!

A once great company...

I gave been using play for longer than I can remember and have never been let down until recently.

The biggest problem isn't Play's own products but the other traders selling on their site, my advice would be to still give Play a go but only to buy their own products and if you are going to buy from independent traders on Play then check them out very carefully first.

Positive experience for years

Wow, I'm surprised by the negative feedback I'm seeing here on Trustpilot. I've been shopping movies (DVD and Blu-ray) on Play.com for a few years now, and it has always been a positive experience.
Of course, Play.com consists of a number of shops, so it's a bit abstract to rate Play.com as such, both positive or negative.
Only a single time have I tried not receiving a package. But I just had to write the seller about it, and then he sent another.
Only a single time have I tried receiving a movie that had an error on it. Again, I just had to write the seller about it, and then he sent another.
Shops I can mention are:
Speedyhen, Zoverstocks, zavvioutlet and mecoduEU.
So ratings for Play.com probably depends a lot on what you're buying and who you're buying from. I can definitely recommend buying movies from the above 4 shops.

Terrible experience.

I ordered a £250+ HOTAS flightstick from one of the sellers on play.com.
The seller then proceeded to post the item untracked and unsigned for - Nobody with any sense does that with a item worth that much and as predicted, the item gets "Lost in the mail" AKA "Stolen by some yob".

The retailer had the combined intelligence of a footstool. No customer service skills and Play.com was almost as bad, albeit much politer than the seller themselves.

Eventually got my item after weeks of pestering.

Would not recommend and certainly won't shop there again.

play.com sent me an email to change address then duplicated my order

Placed an order for my dads birthday so put the delivery address to his instead of my own. I then received an email saying I needed the delivery address to be the same as my card address. So I amended the details and it duplicated my order instead. I have now been charged twice and it will take a few days to appear back into my account.
Extremely annoyed . Will not be using Play.com ever again

Good Overall Service

Play.com has changed over the years yet the fundamentals remain positive. The traders who use the platform can sometimes be lacklustre but PLAY will do their best to resolve matters.

Merchants be aware not worth your time or money!!!!

We signed up to Play.com as a merchant in December 2013, and have to say as a merchant it has been the biggest waste of money. Their systems are not user-friendly and comprise of having to fill out excel spreadsheets to get products listed followed by messing account with yet more spreadsheets. Play then told us if we use a Channel Unity we will be able to automatically upload products from our inventory database. Obviously as nothing had gone to plan up to now this failed and resulted in 2-3 months of constant e-mails and getting nowhere. After three months of getting nowhere I tried to complain just to be told that the start up team are no longer handling my account and that I would have to contact my account manager. This was news to me as we had not been told that we have an assigned account manager and at no point did they contact us. We had to make the first contact and complain to them, not to mention during the three months of trying to get the account set up not once did the start-up team contact us to ask if we needed help, we had to phone them near enough daily and complain to them.
We decided to post a complaint about play and to no surprise we suddenly got a phone call apologizing and asking if we could remove the complaint, in return they extended our account a few months and promised to sort out some free marketing. As we thought at last progress we agreed to remove the complaint, however we are now back at stage 1.
We have paid for Marketing on Play and have received no conversions from it, 6 months in with over 700 listings and 600 of those being unique products we are hardly covering our costs and no surprise they have failed to do the free marketing as promised.
Customers – Please don’t blame the Merchants (sellers), plays system is unfriendly and full of faults and often tells incorrect tails of customers orders.

full of dodgy traders

Be very careful buying from play.com, this is a site where merchants know they will not be pursued for mis-selling and poor business practices, so is it rife with shysters. Play customer service is non-existent, 3 months and waiting for a response to my issue with a seller. Every time the seller responds with lies such as 'a refund was offered' and then play close my case without checking the facts, despite having been sent email correspondence as evidence numerous times.

You should do this everywhere but here especially, ALWAYS use a credit card for purchases over £100, as play will not help you when things go wrong.

Absolutely appalling customer service and their 'fair play' guarantee is a joke.

Just Terrible - avoid these clowns.

Wow they are probably the worst online company I've ever ordered from.

Ordered a product which never got dispatched - it just vanished, everything vanished. When I phoned them they said it would be delivered by January, then February, then March, and by June I had written to them to ask what was going on. And then I wrote and phoned again - they said they would deal with it over the phone but never replied to written correspondence. After a year I just gave up - appalling and have never used this company since. Prior to that items arrived damaged and their returns policy made it awkward to return damaged items. I would avoid this company if at all possible. Friends have had similar experiences. AVOID!

Absolute disgrace. Never fails to miss orders / take payment with no item

I tried to buy a new S5 smartphone and it said there was 15 in stock. I returned to my standing orders later, and the device had ran out of stock and it was now a pre order, so they had took the large amount of money and left me with no item whatsoever.

Also, a few years back I used it to buy an Experia phone which was a disaster in every way.

Cons
-Bad shipping
-Bad payment options (paypal please?)
-Non-existent customer support
-Everything on the site is unacceptable / does not function
-Every order is a disaster.

Pros
-Are you having a laugh?
