I’ve a bought a lot from Porta Romana…
I’ve a bought a lot from Porta Romana over time - design is outstanding as is the quality of many pieces. They probably represent the the very best of uk lighting design. I’ve also installed Cullen/Vaughan/TigerMoth/BTC/B&P.
My principle issue is of durability - Ive some pieces which are clearly built to last, but many look great but are under engineered and fail too often in practice
Glass lamp bases have too smaller contact area for the light fitting to last anytime - PR supply 2 part epoxy glue guns to resolve (I’ve emptied 3 last 5 years and keep one handy). The light fitting will fall off many design - often when just moved after some time in single location. The contact point could be increased with thought in the manufacturing process.
Pendent fitting like the Cocoon which is an outstanding piece of design - again the practicalities aren’t thought through - try changing a bulb in one of these after a couple of years - you’ll find you have to take the whole fitting down and with great care soak in warm water and attempt to unscrew the glass fitting. I now put plenty of grease around all fittings before they go up - this should be supplied and instructions be rather more comprehensive at this price point.
I’ve had a few issues with quality on delivery with items not having been checked
Some finishes like chrome don’t appear very durable - if I compare to Vaughan or BTC / Eichholtz.
