DO NOT USE PROJECTS ABROAD!!!
I did the Spain premed program and it was NOT what was told to us. We didn’t even shadow real doctors. My group and I had to go to doctors ourselves and beg them to let us shadow them. We had an emergency situation and we couldn’t get in contact with them for hours and when they finally answered they put us on hold for half an hour. You will lose out on opportunities if you don’t speak Spanish cause they don’t provided and interpreter like the promised. Your itinerary and host family details won’t be posted 1 month in advance, it’ll be posted 2 days in advance. Your host may not speak English and you won’t be informed about that.
I had an awful experience.
Waste of money!! Use anyone else! Don’t use projects abroad!!
They did not change the itinerary the second week. We were sent to a private clinic who didn’t know we were coming majority of the time and we sat around for hours.
We got to see surgeries because we asked a doctor on our own if we could shadow her…nothing to do with projects abroad.

We’re really sorry you left the programme feeling so disappointed. Following your complaint, we carried out a detailed review of the programme, the information provided before departure, the itinerary and the concerns you raised.
While we recognise that some aspects of the experience and communication could have been better, our review did not find that the programme was misrepresented or that the core programme described was not provided. The programme is designed to give students broad exposure to medicine and healthcare, but particular specialities or departments cannot be guaranteed, as clinical access depends on the availability of local medical professionals and healthcare providers.
When you asked for additional clinical exposure, we quickly adapted the second week of the programme to include a wider range of medical specialities, including surgery.
We do, however, take your concerns about the timing of some pre-departure information and language support seriously. We have identified areas where the programme and communications can be strengthened, and are taking those lessons forward for future participants.
We have responded to your complaint in full privately and do not think it would be appropriate to discuss individual details further in a public forum. We are nevertheless sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations and appreciate the feedback you have provided.
The Projects Abroad Team
Do not exchange this experience for anything else. Not even a regular holiday.
The staff were genuinely so caring, supportive and loving.
I chose the monthly stay and it was truly inspirational. My host family were welcoming and easily adaptable to our needs; they often ensured that everything was okey for all volunteers staying with them and prioritised clear communication.
The staff members became my temporary parents. I had no fear with discussing personal situations with them and they would do everything in their power to help me.
I also was fascinated by all the stories each volunteer would bring to the table at meal times. I didn’t know it then but I have made life long friends that are based all over the world.
I was participating in the care program which required me to aid in public schools. The 3 year olds puts smiles on my face, even when they made so much noise my head started throbbing.
The day that I said my goodbyes to everyone who had surrounded me that month I could not contain my tears and the overwhelming emotion that I felt knowing these people had changed my life in such a way I will never forget.
I understand many people say this but it experience has altered my life for the better and I would recommend this experience to anyone who has a chance to participate. I will be going back the second a have a chance.

the most rewarding experience
I went on the high school specials in Fiji for community and volunteer work. The program was beautifuly organised and I felt very at home. The host family were kind and caring in everything that they did and continuously provided support. The mornings we spent with the children were incredible and their teacher was so kind and willing. Afternoon we spent time painting a church fence which also felt very rewarding. It truly is a life changing experience and I would recommend it to anyone. You meet lifelong friends and learn things about yourself you’d never know. Please consider putting yourself out there and doing projects abroad.

Went to the galapagos islands to help with conservation! It was amazing and I had a great time despite the relatively hard work we were doing. we had a lot of free time to explore and the beaches were incredible. I felt like I was doing something to help the cause !

I’m a sixth form college teacher and used Projects Abroad to provide an immersive experience in Tanzania for 39 students. We worked in a rural Maasai primary school and had the most amazing time. Host family and staff
The staff was very friendly and the host family was amazing they were so friendly and welcoming. The staff was very knowledgeable on everything and make sure you were safe. The host family was very welcoming and made sure you had everything you needed. They also went out of their way to make sure you felt comfortable and even with the language barrier they were still very easy to talk to.

Sri Lanka Engineering Internship
What made my experience great was the guidance and friendliness I received both from the people at Projects Abroad and at Foresight Engineering where I worked for 4 weeks! At Foresight, the staff not only made an effort to make me feel welcome throughout the duration of my placement, but were always open to sharing insight into the kind of work the company were involved in. I encourage anyone looking to gain some experience and who is perhaps unsure about what kind of career they'd like to go into to consider applying! It's also amazing to experience temporarily living in a completely new location and the staff at work were keen for you to visit other places of their island!

The Projects Abroad Microfinance Program in Arusha gave me extremely valuable new experiences. They brought me to the women’s houses that we were helping and introduced me to their way of life.
